One of the few people who get a thumbs up before he speaks.

@alandoane9168 Paul provides synthesis on complicated studies and academic papers, and Eliot makes detailed graphs/maps of raw data. They do have similar mannerisms and physical attributes.

As we watch our planetary biosphere collapse, eating our pizza, we will notice the price of pizza rising. Due to what we are watching.

20:00 Three films that influenced me (as a Chemist) were 2008 Nat Geo's "Six Degrees could change the World", Jared Diamond's 2010 NatGeo "Collapse" (or audiobook) and Jared Diamond's Nat Geo 2005 "Guns, Germs and Steel" (and audiobook).

Reading "The Ministry for the Future" gives an idea that it needs a heat wave with 20 million deaths to get change going 😮

Still waiting for someone to say that "nothing is being done because nothing can be done".

Try inviting Professor Guy McPherson on your show. He's known about abrupt climate change for years. He's my go to expert on this.

Jacobson lacks experience in the political arena which makes his environmental effectiveness poor ! I worked at Bell Labs in the 60s after they warned about Global Warning in 1958 !I moved to Florida later and became Mayor of a coastal city near Ft Lauderdale and led the Sierra club / audubon in lawsuits over Airport/Seaport expansions and we eventualy won both suits !Al Gore made his money over high tech investments such as Apple Comp NOT Environmental Corps ! The most effective Environmental Activist was the Swedish Girl who was a high school student who could develop a world wide environmental support ! The green party only tuned out to kill effective Green candidates !

The human mind does not want reality. Look at simple things. We humans don’t want emotional or physical pain but it comes anyway. Hope is a way to avoid reality. I believe it is a higher level of emotional maturity to accept reality deeply but it takes practice. That means hope is not needed. Metta to all!

I really enjoy listening to Beckwith, Carter, Hansen, etc. on the topic but for some reason Eliot’s my favourite by far.
Thanks again guys, hopefully you can both squeeze a couple more chats in before the downfall 🫠
Edit: to elaborate on why I prefer Eliot is because he tells the unadulterated truth and he’s extremely humble & knowledgeable.

The only thing he's still behind on is the ever-increasing atmospheric methane levels. So far he thinks it's not really a big deal.

As far as global warming, there is a limit to how hot the Earth would get.
So it's not going to be doom and gloom for all.

Nothing will live and nothing will grow at 3-4 C. Change is too abrupt for adaptation.

      That's not true.
Plants and animals, especially extremophiles can adjust must easier than you think.
Infact, I've seen plants grow in a greenhouse that was 170°F, 100% humidity, with daily watering.
At the bottom of the ocean there are animals living + thriving in water over 400°F, next to volcanic vents.
Us humans may not be able to deal with such extremes. But as long as Earth's surface is mostly covered with water and the planet doesn't get any closer to the Sun -------
      We're going to be alright.

@DanielWatson-vv7cd Wrong. Look at the dying Coral Reefs. Ocean temperature and acidification has already occurred. Oceans are no longer able to absorb much more heat. We are losing our best carbon sink. We have lost 69% of biomass just since 1970. In geological terms, that is too much change in the blink of an eye.

    • @DanielWatson-vv7cd
      @DanielWatson-vv7cd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once again you're WRONG.
Unless the ocean is boiling It Can Take More Heat.
The REAL reason animal and plant species have been disappearing is because of Pollution, and Habitat Destruction (over fishing, deforestation, mining, ect....)
      Not global warming.
Case and point; Go research the "Snowball Earth" climate events of the past, then come back and tell me how wonderful a colder climate is for life on Earth.

industrial civ and the living world are incompatible. why do environmentalists lament what will destroy industrial civilization? makes no sense. i know elliot at least is better than this. i've heard him talking to sam. i think he knows what needs to be done
