    It’s not especially surprising that the idea Grealish has flopped has spread. At a reported cost of £105m, the England international is Manchester City’s most expensive signing ever, but has only produced 4 goals and assists in the league so far, while 10 City players have got more minutes. And while he could still win the Premier League and the Champions League, he’s been less exciting in a City shirt than he was at Aston Villa, prompting some to question whether he can succeed under Pep Guardiola, and take the place of Mahrez, Foden, or Sterling.
    On today’s FD Explained we look at the stats to see whether Grealish has actually been bad, and what his role this term tells us about his future under Pep. Let us know what you think in the comments.

    He's been a "flop" if you take into consideration his 100M price tag, but he's been pretty decent overall. If City had paid like 40M for him, no one would pay attention. But we all know City didn't buy Grealish for his presence on the pitch, they bought him for marketing reasons considering he's one of England's most hyped players and his appearance attracts people.

    He’s a very good player it’s just baffling that they spent 100 million on a 26 year old who wasn’t even a solid upgrade or even an upgrade at all in most cases than what they already had in Foden, Sterling, Silva and Mahrez. Especially when he’s older than Foden and the same age as Sterling and Silva. They’d have been better off spending that money on either a younger player with a higher ceiling than Grealish or a true world class player. If I’m looking and seeing my team up against City and I see they’re starting Jack Grealish ahead of say Sterling or Foden I wouldn’t really give a shit. He doesn’t add a significant amount over what they add. And he’s a 100 million pound attacker which is bananas.

    Everyone is obsessed with g/a and don’t actually watch the games. He’s actually had a pretty good first season. He’s drags players out of position and creates space for his teammates, which massively helps in a City team when the opposition always parks the bus. What people forget is that Grealish hasn’t got a true goalscoring striker infront of him on the pitch which he had at Villa. We’ll see how well he does next season when he has Alvarez and might well also have Haaland as strikers in the team, then he can be truly judged. It’s difficult enough to fit into a City team and learn the tactics… people love to write off City players, most of them have been called flops but actually weren’t. Players need a season to bed in. Lukaku and Sancho don’t get called flops as much as Grealish and they’ve been much worse.

    i wouldnt judge grealish so far as he hasnt been outstanding so far, he still has had big impacts in games but just lacks the finals product. I think we can only really judge him on his second season at city as most new signings for city havent really done well in their first season (stones, mahrez, cancelo, ake and even bernardo silva) and thats because the system is so different from what hes used to. But Grealish has recently started improving by doing what hes best at, which is running at defences and making them work whereas earlier on he used to dribble and pass back. I think its only fair to see him next season as it would be his second season and hed also have a target man in haaland.

    Jack Grealish signature move: receiving the ball from the left flank > slowly push towards the defender so that other defenders can chase back to cover (at the same time slow down the rythm in City's attack) > see that cannot get pass the defence line then pass back to the midfielder and make a clueless run further up with which no one can deliver the ball to him except in video game > again

    obviously when you factor in the price tag he doesn't live up to it regardless of whether you want to call it a inflated market or something like that, let's be honest he went from being club captain and key player to a player that comes off the bench say what you want about a grace period for him to adjust but for 100+ million (when you factor in signing on fees and agent fees) is that really money well spent when in reality they've needed a striker more than another winger

Bernardo struggles on the right wing as well, but he is brilliant in midfield. Jack will probably do a lot better in KDB's role. @JJTurner1812 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Always thought he was overrated at Villa, he was an above average player in an average team and it was trendy to like him. The numbers you've used to defend him just get supercharged by Pep's system. Grealish is nothing special. £40m at most. And it's not like he's young either.

    • @michaelscott107
      @michaelscott107 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @JJTurner1812
      @JJTurner1812 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelscott107 No, what I'm saying is that certain systems can supercharge specific elements of a players game such as progressive carries and carries into the box for a team that pens opponents in. However at no point did I blame him for any poor numbers, not sure where you've got that from. But since you have mention his poorer numbers, yes his goal contributions have dropped, and yes that does come from being the standout in an average team to then being imo a below average part of a great team. As well as this his end product has been quite poor. In a team where chances come regularly, there must be something he is lacking, between positional play or end product. Yes this is a bit of an essay but you assumed the incorrect information.

    Jack needs to have more of the ball where the team rely on him to create chances for the team and for himself. He's simply not allowed te required amount of time on the ball at City as he was allowed at Villa. The truth is that Man City don't need Jack because they have so many players that can score goals and create chances. He's seeing less of the ball, and the team are not creating chances for him so I think he needs to leave city and go to a team where he'll be the main man in regards to creating chances. Greallish would be better at a team such as Tottenham. Newcastle, Chelsea and even Arsenal. Man City are so quick in transition that everything that Jack does is rushed and that's not his game. He needs to be allowed to go on those mazy runs with the ball so he can draw defenders towards him which creates space enough for him to create something. Jack clearly is not happy at Man City, he's trying to put on a brave face but I just know that he's so restricted and that Pep is not hte manager for him. Make no mistake, Pep goes to big clubs that have the most buying power and then he gets the best players to fit into his tika taka style. Jack Grealish is never going to fit into a quick pass and move tika taka style.
