it's such a good song with such a good concept like i can't understand why people don't get it it's CAMP (and the ep too it's one of my favs from them)
Still going through their discography, but this is what we mean when people say a title track does not make a comeback, it's the entire project that does. If we only consider the title track, we might miss out on some good music and storytelling.
@@run-for-roses05 Red Velvet are the best of the best when it comes to fully-realized PROJECTS, the concept work is so thorough every single time I love it so much
i agree, but rookie still does it for me. it's such a well made song with such a well made concept that only people who understand real music can get. rookie is just THAT girl and she will always be
I love how meta-textual (meta-musical?) that is. Rookie was meant to describe an era which never existed, just a quirk of temporary imagination. In the same way, Rookie is ignored and overlooked in their discography. Did they foresee that lol?
@@machinelearner108 That’s an interesting point haha! Given the amount of concept development that went into these albums, I wouldn’t be surprised if they took the potentially divisive reception into consideration!
you literally made dreams come true with this one. lost me completely and had me by the end, lmao. i am a rookie enthusiast until my dying breath leave me on this hill its the only home ive ever known
This is why i love Red Velvet, there's always a story being told with their songs, the amount of small and seemingly insignificant details make their music that much more enjoyable
To clarify the person playing the alien is fine but the Red velvet girls actual m*rder the alien sometime either before the start of the chill kill MV or in it, either way the alien does not survive chill kill
i vividly remember when this mv dropped. the album is pretty solid (last love makes me cry) but the mv was something verrryy different at the time. very rv coded & the stage performances brought together the whole vibe
Rookie was the defying part of Red Velvet’s success and I feel that body talk is just a top tier song I still think it’s the best Red Velvet song in that album.
@lemb8942 Definitely agree! Body Talk isn’t a song I’d normally associate with the “kpop sound,” yet I think it perfectly represents why Red Velvet’s musical contributions to kpop are so valuable - it adds a whole new dimension to this project by itself
One of my favorite Red Velvet albums for the whole story across the songs as a story of being a “rookie” in love. Body Talk is still like one of my top 3 songs for Kpop
I love how you always manage to talk about something in kpop i didn’t even think about!! I was wondering where you’re gonna go with your theory but I think it makes a lot of sense now!! Great video
in my opinion, red velvet have never missed. i love all of their title tracks and all of their b-sides, they have a no-skip discography for me. i also love all of their concepts that they've tried as of now and i'm excited to see what they do next. i can understand that most people might not like some of their titles since all of them are different genres and sounds, but for me red velvet only release REAL music. red velvet are the best kpop group that has walked this industry and will always be, no one can touch their amazing discography and concept
This makes me want to go back and look at albums that really stuck with me (like rookie for example) and figure out why i loved them so much. You made me realize how much the details of a project really matter to me thank you for this perspective! My friends question why Rookie is my favorite title track and album and seeing this put it in perspective for me! Thank you!
man i remember when Flower Guy in Rookie was a metaphor for SK's president at the time and the whole song was something about the politic situation in SK at the time
omg great analysis, i dont understand why people don't like rookie, ots one of my favorites red velvet albuns, i love the way the tracks tell a history, so bittersweet. i didn't know about that picture being in the digital version of the album, so interesting!!
What an amazing moment of serendipity! I've been relistening to RV's discography lately and determined that I despise the Russian Roulette and love the Rookie mini albums in equal proportions. Thanks for adding language to my general sense of enjoyment and pleasure while listening to this masterpiece of a concept!
Such a cool theory 🤔 I really agree with you, and I think in my feelings towards Rookie there was always some embedded liminality. The first time I heard it I didn't appreciate it. After a while, I came to the conclusion that it's a masterpiece, but you have to be in that specific headspace, detached from reality (seeing yourself in that hypothetical idealized scenario), to enjoy it.
interesting analysis. but to me i think rather than the bliss wallpaper the more fitting comparison to rookie music video background is to the set of children show like teletubbies. the whole rookie music video seems like it drew inspiration from children tv show, from the puppet, the flower person, the ufo at the end. just like the frutiger aero comparison, the tv show set feels liminial bcs its smt that kids would imagine the world to looks like but once they grew up they realized that it was nothing but imagination
funny, i was just this week complaining to my partner about people not liking rookie cause they think it's childish and how i find it a shame, cause they're missing the point, but also because i just really like this song but then again, i got into kpop by snsd's gee back in 2009, so i'm biased to repetitive bubbly songs (and red velvet has me on a chokehold precisely for their strong concepts, so rookie is a slam dunk in my book)
You know what, I lost 3 friends over saying Rookie is one of red velvets weeker title tracks and I stand by that opinion…I never said it was bad though
Are you stalking me? I was literally just listening to rookie a few hours ago lol on a real note i’ve never understood why people overlooked/hated rookie, it’s one of my favorite rv title tracks. Also the choreography is so good.
Choujimi. Sir. Big fan. Im looking for the video on txt’s minisode 3 teaser, for research for my own post. Did it get taken down or did i hallucinate it?
I do believe that was one of the videos that got lost in the copyright purge 😭 a lot of my earlier videos were edited in a way that made them susceptible to distribution center takedowns, so I’m in the process of remaking them like I did with this one! I’ll make a note to revisit the minisode 3 script for a remake!
with you coming to the conclusion that rookie never happened, i can only think that the title of the song made this apparent from the beginning. to call someone a rookie is so say that they’re a novice at something - someone with minimal experience. if your a to b timeline is considered as well, with rookie falling in between the two points, at that point in the story, it makes more sense for the interest and narrator to already have some experience with each other before the inevitable decline. that space is liminal in nature though, so it is not definitive what is or is not taking place at this time. but, if you look at the lyrics for rookie itself, the narrator is actively describing the earlier stages of a relationship… in a strange manner? a lot of the nuance is likely lost in translation, but to say “I pretend to enjoy it, haha I try and laugh, I even talk icy when I'm in front of you,” does not give me the impression that everything is peaches and cream in this relationship. so, my theory becomes that after the honeymoon stage has faded, and the narrator has realized that the person she is with is not the perfect partner she envisions for herself - she is led into a state of delusion where her thoughts and feelings become more erratic. she is scared, but wants this person, yet recognizes the flaws in the way they are going about this. she is complacent in this occurring because it is giving her the opportunity to freely explore the ebbs and flows of how they’ve gotten to this point and perceive freely. she calls her lover a rookie, because she knows they are not yet capable of a relationship, and likely did from the start, but was willing to let herself fall due to the aura this person has. ignorance is bliss, and that seems to be the driving factor behind the impending turbulence. she occupies the liminal space to prolong this from happening since she was willing to take a chance in the first place knowing better that she shouldn’t have.
rookie was truly such an important moment in red velvet's career, I wish people acknowledged this album more often
