I have 2 friends that I hardly see…I’m ahead of the game! Haha Jk. But I do love your tips for rt school. I just started and I’m pretty overwhelmed there’s so much to memorize!
Lol that’s funny! Your first semester probably bombards you with the most info. But everything gets repeated over and over with each term, so you’ll get a chance to pick up on a lot of things as you go. Check out my last video about being a good student during clinicals.
I just started studying RT and I would like a good resource for situational processes. For example, pt is admitted to E.R. 60 y.o. female, acute onset SOB. Symptoms started the night before, but no immediate apparent cause... Whenever I get a situation: What questions should I start with and why are they important? I've heard people say, "Well, your knowledge will increase with time." 😐 Sure. Except I'm studying now. Someone point me in the right direction. I see you recommended Kettering, but I'm guessing that is something I'd want for 2nd or 3rd year.
I am in my senior year of RT school and I am having a nervous breakdown. I study constantly and I never go anywhere lol I'm working as a student therapist at a local hospital and taking 6 classes of you include clinicals. I have reached my point of being overwhelmed. I graduate in May and I always get told how good of a therapist I will be and have gotten job offers from other hospitals but I am beating myself up after bit doing well on two exams. Any tips on test taking strategy?
I’ll make a video this week on how i studied. It might help you be less stressed because it’s a systematic way of studying. But to be honest, i wouldn’t be too worried about getting all A’s. Literally no managers care about what their employees had as grades. I think it’s way more important retaining the information than just passing a test. And if you have a positive response from people you work with, then you are solid. I had a few people I’ve met over the years that wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a bipap and vent and they all got hired and are now good therapists. Don’t even sweat the school part of being an RT. It’s such a small part of the bigger picture. Sorry for the late response. It’s been a busy week at work.
Just graduated from MA school and thinking of going into RT school. Any tips on making the decision ? I’m still stuck between RT and nursing. Although it might seem easier in my case to pursue RT school because there are less prerequisites, I want to lay out all my options
Check out my video i recently updated about vent modes. It should answer a lot of questions you might have. I also have a second video on mechanical ventilation. If those don’t help, let me know and I’d love to explain it better!
Hi, just found your channel! I’m a hospice nurse aide starting RT program in fall this year. I wear hearing aides but can hear pretty good with them. Do you think RT would be a good choice? Crazy fact: I’m listed to be called for nursing program but I seriously want to pass and just get into RT program.
Hi! Thanks for subscribing! Hopefully you get into the RT program! I think RT would be a great choice! Are you trying to work in a hospital or in a hospice environment? In terms of a hearing aid, i know a few people who wear hearing aids and have no problem at all. I think they bought a special stethoscope that can amplify the audio but that was only $100 extra so it wasn’t that bad. If you like quick adrenaline moments followed by low key relaxed moments then you’ll love rt. But if you want to stay pretty busy all shift, then you’ll love nursing.
@@DoldierMedia more of a hospital setting. I’ve been in the hospice field for 13 years and nursing field as CNA/CHHA for 19 years. Thanks for the reply. Thanks for the well wishes! I love your channel
Thanks for the video! Quick question, I’m currently studying kinesiology for my bachelors and then after graduation thinking about getting my associates in RT. Would that work?
You don’t want to work in kinesiology? I’ve heard good things about kinesiology majors working with athletes. But it would be a relatively smooth transition to respiratory because you’ll already be familiar with the human body. But that depends on how far along you are in your studies. You could also hold both jobs, i know people who do respiratory and something else on the side. So if that’s your plan then it would work. Thank you for the sub!
I got my master’s in exercise physiology, and the market doesn’t have enough position for people coming into the field. I’m currently working on my associates in respiratory therapy and the knowledge of kinesiology and physiology that I have has helped a lot.
Hi Daniel. I’m a new RT, I been reading about how viagra may help covid patients oxygenate. I was thinking about taking viagra as a prophylactic before work. What’s your option about this ?
I think you should definitely do this. From the research I’ve seen, people who abused steroids for years have a problem in that department so it’s a win win. You protect yourself against covid and things finally could work again lol

So i initially applied to a local community college. The system they had in place was very corrupt so i decided a better option would be to go to a technical school that was $50k. I took out a loan so i wasn’t worried about payments until a few months after i graduated. It took about 2 years to pay it off so it wasn’t too bad. In terms of work, i worked security at a hospital which was easy enough that i could study at work and they were cool with it. But also i had the benefit of getting to know the environment of a hospital better and now i work at that same hospital as an RT. I also did side gigs of Uber when it just came to my city.
@@DoldierMedia appreciate the response. Looking at your videos, I think we may be in the same city. Starting at a technical school but the loan I am using requires me to make payments during school so I’m trying to figure out where I can work that will work with my school schedule.
Hey there, the short answer is YES, but depending on the hospital you work at they will schedule you. Some places have a set sched and some have self sched. But basically, you only work 3 or 4 12-hr shifts a week and that makes 36-48 hrs a week. I hope that helps!
Hello! Is it possible to go back to school to be a respiratory therapist if I already have a bachelors degree? I have a double major in business administration/ liberal studies. Is there a program where I can go for a RT bachelors with an unrelated degree like, some go back to be an RN with an unrelated degree?
I actually have a link in this video! It’s a good stethoscope and will get you through rt school. It’ll last you a solid 5-10 years depending on how you use it.
Just like starting as a CNA, to licence practical nurse/lvn , then to Registered Nurse. What simple way/step, can someone get into Respiratory Therapy as a career. I am presently a CNA in UAE working in a rehabilitation hospital but pretty much expensive to go into RT program directly.
I have a question. Did you get your bachelors degree when you went to RT school? Also did you have to have your AA before you were able to start RT school, or did you obtain your AA when doing RT. I’m not sure I even have the mental brain capacity to complete this program. I’m 40 and my wit isn’t as quick as it used to be when I was in my 20’s. Thanks for all the videos.
I am actually currently working on a bachelors degree. I got an associates in respiratory care. In order to get in the program I had to take almost all of the pre-reqs required for nursing. Do you currently have an AA? Or any of your prerequisites complete? I think 40 is a good age to get into respiratory. At 50 i would probably say that’s too late but 40 isn’t bad. The vast majority of my coworkers are in their mid 40’s and some of them only recently graduated so it’s not too late to start. Hello i will start rt school this fall, i was in a lvn program last year but flunked out. I just had my second child right befoe and covid just began... it was alot. I have been a cna nearly 5 years but never in clinical settings just home health/hospice . Anything i should study or look at ahead of time? I am so ready to put in the work this time. Thanks in advance.
I would say that there’s not much you can prepare for beforehand but if you do want to be extra prepared. A lot of students struggle with ABG’s (arterial blood gases) when they get introduced to them at first. So just getting somewhat familiar with that before school would help a lot. Also normal values for lab results, respiratory related and even nursing related. Everything from normal blood pressure to normal calcium levels. That would give you a huge step up when you go over it in school. Let me know if you need more things, I’d love to give more things that could help you be better prepared. Also familiarizing yourself with respiratory medications would make it easier when you finally go over the material in school. Meds like albuterol, arrogant, budesonide, advair, spiriva, etc... knowing the names, dosages, modes of action and indications vs contraindications. You’ll do great, most rt schools do a good job at working with you. Thank you for the subscription btw! Let me know if there’s any particular video you’d want me to make!
@@DoldierMedia maybe a video on your school experience study habits, easy pnuemonics or things for lab values those medicines you listed from administering to purpose.. Anything school related!! Is this best for a young person to go into? I am 62 yrs. old. I need the truth. Am I really too old to go into this profession? Tell me straight. Thanks.
I would say 62 would be really difficult on you. It takes a few years just to really get comfortable with everything you are doing on the job. If you are starting at that age then you’d have a difficult time being on your feet for 12 hours. It also depends on the place you work at. If it’s a small community hospital then 62 wouldn’t be too bad. But if it’s a major hospital in your area. Everything is so busy that it would take a day just to recover from each shift.
@@DoldierMedia I’m taking the last class I need to apply to my school’s RT program and I’m STOKED to say the least! I’ve watched like 5 of your videos already and I couldn’t be happier about taking on this career path! You just reminded me of a question I had though... I earned my EMT certification just this past year and I wanted to know, would keeping up with my certification do me any good?
Good question! I would say keeping it until you graduate would be good just because you never know what could happen financially and you might need a job. There’s also a chance that you could get hired at a hospital as either an Ed tech or some other entry level position that requires EMT certification, which would ensure you get a job as an RT in that hospital. But once you graduate, there’s no need to keep up your certification any longer. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub! Let me know what videos you would like me to make! Hello Daniel, I will be 48 in October (I'm I too old ?) and I start the program In August. I am going thru a community college and have completed all my prereq. I will have to also work Full time in the hotel industry. I'm excited and nervous I always come to your channel for information. My best friend is an RN she is finishing up her BCN. I will also go for my Bachelor's degree. I want to wait till I get a job in the field first. I appreciate your information on Kettering I will definitely look into that. You mentioned shoes but what have you found to be the most comfortable? Thank you for being here for us that are in school to ask questions too.
Hi Kyle, I'm in my first semester. I will not lie the concept I get. Test time the Brain freezes up. My final is coming up in two weeks. I have to get an 80 to pass the class. It just gets harder from here but I'm up for the challenge. Check out Kahoot I use that as a game to help work like quizlet but fun. I like his you tube videos cause it real life info.
Hey Daniel, if you don’t mind me asking what school did you go to? And do you recommend any RT schools in California. I am 24 years old and struggling in a jr college. Many classes are impacted and are super impossible to get into their programs. My counselor told me that it is a lottery to get into their program:(. I was thinking of just going to a private program but many are telling me that those schools are scams. I feel so lost 😞
It depends on what area you live in. It can be anywhere from $20 an hour in places like Tennessee or Florida to $60 an hour in cities like San Francisco or San Jose. What area do you live in?
so i have to do prerequisits first then i enroll in a program? how many classes will that be and if i do summer classes can i finish faster? in total how many years would it take to finish if i dont do summer classes? versus doing summer classes i dont mind doing summer classes
There are pre requisites. When you’re done with those, you can apply for the program. It will probably take around 2 to 3 years. Summer classes depend on each college. I recommend you to apply to a college and talk to a counselor and start from there.
Choose R.N., NOT respiratory therapist. Physicians refer to respiratory as 'ancillary', lumped in with C.N.A.s. Despite taking the same general education, prerequisites and sciences respiratory earns about 20% to 30% LESS THAN R.N.s. R.N.s and M.D.s ate lunch, conversed idly, and even dated/married; yet, NEARLY never, can the same be said of the LOWLY respiratory therapist. My usual contribution to the 'team' was, " SaO2 is something %" followed by, "ok, ya sure", by the Pulmonologist. 37 years of such 'team work' was not pleasant, or worth it. Further, the nature of the discipline greatly diminishes the areas needed, thus opportunities are diminished. Choose R.N., NOT respiratory therapist.

Then in a few years ill be begging for work related videos! Thank you for the response, these days noone communicates with subscribers. Thank you again I'm looking into abg now
@@DoldierMedia thanks very helpful.
Is there any program that have the pre reqs within the program?
Yeah! There are a lot of technical schools that include the pre reqs. And they are usually only 2 years long or shorter. But they are expensive.
You could definitely do something more easy on the body, like pft or sleep lab or pulmonary rehab. It pays the same, but it’s much easier on a person.
I didn't quite understand but can you please tell me the two class worth tutoring

THANK YOU!!!!
Are you currently in rt school?
You are gonna love being an RT!
Hey if I get certifications in the US can I use this in another country?
Thank u newbie here
How can I reach you if I have tons of questions??
What is the name of the class that is $150-$200?
I like Hoka
Hey Daniel, if you don’t mind me asking what school did you go to? And do you recommend any RT schools in California. I am 24 years old and struggling in a jr college. Many classes are impacted and are super impossible to get into their programs. My counselor told me that it is a lottery to get into their program:(. I was thinking of just going to a private program but many are telling me that those schools are scams. I feel so lost 😞
What was the course called?? Kettering??
Yes it was!
@@DoldierMedia Thank you!!
What is Kettering
It’s a course that helps you with passing the state exam.
What does the starting out pay for new grad look like?
It depends on what area you live in. It can be anywhere from $20 an hour in places like Tennessee or Florida to $60 an hour in cities like San Francisco or San Jose. What area do you live in?
@@DoldierMedia What does starting pay look like in Georgia
What about my kids? Can I just drop them?? 🤣 j/k j/k
does it spell like this(catering) I can't find it
Kettering

so i have to do prerequisits first then i enroll in a program? how many classes will that be and if i do summer classes can i finish faster? in total how many years would it take to finish if i dont do summer classes? versus doing summer classes i dont mind doing summer classes
There are pre requisites. When you’re done with those, you can apply for the program. It will probably take around 2 to 3 years. Summer classes depend on each college. I recommend you to apply to a college and talk to a counselor and start from there.
@@lizramos6626 OK so its gonna take like 2 years to do prerequisits first? Then a 3years for the program?
This is like the 3rd video i seen you comment the same thing on LMAO
