So, I didn't realize that the lid would fit inside of that little slot. I think I'm most excited about that :-)

And you know we’ve had our instant pot for probably 6 months and we did not know you could do that with the lid. Thanks for all the info and help!

I have a tip! I have discovered using mushrooms as a base for cooking poultry, enabling me to get away without adding any liquid. I build my mushroom base and place my protein on top. It takes longer to come to pressure because the mushrooms have to release their liquid first, but the results have been fantastic using a whole chicken, or chicken thighs. The meat ends up cooking in it's own juices and mushroom juice. I puree the cooking liquid and mushrooms after cooking and use it as a sauce/puree' over the chicken, potatoes/rice or pasta. Intense mushroomy flavor infused with chicken flavor! (and onions...)
I haven't tried it on beef or pork yet but am going to.
. If anyone's interested I will share my technique :)

+missmonasuzette That sounds wonderful! I'll have to try it. Thanks!

Sure! Thank you for all your tips!
Cut your mushrooms in half and stem:) Olive oil on bottom of hot pot. 1st row of mushrooms cut side down will brown adding flavor before liquid releases. Toss the rest on top any which way.

Mushrooms are already "protein" !! Why not go Vegan for your own health & our beautiful planet earth! I do not miss eating "animal" flesh at all!

Thanks Nili. I am a new user (had it a bit but broke both bone in my arm so I couldn't cook). I am really excited now after watching several of your videos. I love your clear, tell it like it is way of showing us how to use this. Your tips on accessories really helped me (not my credit card) as well as these tips. I am heading out to the grocery store so I can get cooking!

wow, I did not know about the 0 minutes then either! I do have a couple of tips for cleaning. if you cook something with a lot of garlic or other strong flavor, the way I like to clean is 2 put a cup or two of water and two or three tablespoons of vinegar into the pot and run it through and you're pressure for 2 minutes. It's a lot like that test starter that we all did when we first got our spot. That sanitizes and cleans and tends to take away the Aromas of the strong food. My next trip is for the ring. The Ring does not smell if you take it out and soak it in a bowl of water with a little vinegar for a while. I have not ever had trouble with smells transfer and no matter if I leave the lid on or whatever. I'm sure I will do the video on this because you've inspired me in that way but I thought I would share!

Does the vinegar make the seal expand or anything? I read somewhere that it could ruin the seal. Thanks.

I bought my instant pot about 2 months ago and had never learned to use the pressure cooker feature. I tried it once and failed and shoved the evil thing back on the counter, flipped it off and walked away. This morning I was determined to cook a corned beef roast in it and walla, after watching a few videos my roast is cooking and smells delicious. Any and all tips are helpful to us old farts who are terrified of new fangled contraptions. I appreciate it and thank you soo much.

Great video! Cleaning tip: couple of tablespoons of oxiclean with hot water, overnight will definitely clean your pot. The best cleaner is PBW, homebrewers use it to clean equipment. That stuff makes it look like new in only 25 minutes. Good luck, y’all!

I purchased my Instant Pot 6qt two weeks ago and I'm hooked ! I just made babyback ribs the other night. Thirty minutes under pressure then remove and sauce. Out to the grill for a quick sear to crisp up and then sat down for yummy, smack yo mama ribs ;) Thanks for the tips !
P.S. - I dry rubbed the ribs after removing the membrane then used 1 cup of apple juice and a teaspoon of liquid smoke for the cook 👍

I bought an electric pressure cooker and thanks to your videos made some amaranth using the 'pot in pot' method. I only added salt and water while cooking. Came out perfect and the inner pan was a breeze to wash. Will try oatmeal next and quinoa next. I will be replacing my electric pressure cooker with an instant pot specifically because of the stainless steel pot, which my current one does not have. Your knowledge has been priceless to my cooking ! Thank you kindly!

Your tip to put a small pot to cook meal inside is fantastic. Also to bake cheesecake can I use a normal spring form or it must be a special materiel one for Instant pot ?. ( sorry I speak french , my spelling isn't perfect )

That's exactly how I store mine. It's a good way also to get the gasket good and dry :)

How absolutely wonderful. You will love it and it changes the desire to cook consistently with real food instead of Costco prepared stuff. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that....to each his own but the healthier we cook the better we feel. Happy Pressuring everyone

This is on sale on Amazon for Cyber Monday. I missed your Black Friday posting. We have several pressure cookers, but thinking of getting one for our trailer. Thank you for the info.

Would you recommend a 5.6l or a 7.6l Instant Pot model for a small family of 3?
