I have never met this man in my life, neither was I alive when he was in charge, nor am I Iranian, but when I listen to him I get the feeling of excitement. I can’t quite explain it, but he has a certain charisma. I admire his brutal honesty, his intelligence. And do not get me wrong, I am quite content with my government but I wouldn’t mind there being a man like him to set things right every now and again. The world needs some honesty, especially now.

Every iranian alive that was a part of that dark day will tell you how much they regret that revolution, to this day that unfortunate mistake is the biggest source of regret, the new generations always criticize the generation responsible for it and no matter how sorry the generation responsible gets, its not gonna fix that mistake.

@@thegamerkhan Firstly, it wasn't a billion-dollar party, it was a 600 million dollar event. Secondly, I'm pretty sure I know the video you watched to reach this conclusion, it was from the channel sidenote, and it was strongly biased. What costed 600 million dollars back then to introduce Iran to the world, and overall the western audience, now costs billions of dollars just to advertise to a smaller audience. The amount of benefit that would have been gained through tourism, interest from businessmen around the world, capital flow, reputation, prestige would far outweigh the cost. Leaders from all around the world gathering in one place, it was a major event. The coverage would boost the economy in the long run. Of course, uneducated people like you don't understand.-

Obama can also speak beautifully although without substance. Few could match the Shah. But today, the only HOS that speaks similarly is Putin. @FREE - PEACE That majority that voted to establish the Islamic Republic is no longer. This can be shown when the majority of the people who live in Iran were born after the revolution. So that same majority that voted to establish the Islamic Republic has gone from "99%" to simply 6%. This assumes that everyone older than the age of 62 right now all voted and in favour of the Islamic Republic. This also forgets that because of 44 years of oppression this government has placed on Iranians that this number is dramatically smaller.

@FREE - PEACE Ok Im fine with not being called a muslim anymore. I live in the West but my parents told me that Khomeini's time had alot of prosecution for the smallest reason like listening to music. One of my uncles was almost hanged for simply disagreeing with a government official and luckily that didn't happen to him. At least the Shah didn't do that to us (maybe to communists and islamists yea). But I do also feel like the Islamic Revolution had to happen to show the people that any government lead by clerics in absolute theocracy is doomed to ruin the nation (which it did).

what a heartwrenching interview... I cannot help but love such an Iranian patriot. I just wished I could reach out, hug him and tell him how sorry I was for allowing myself to be deceived by his and our enemies. Everything he said was true but we were trained to think otherwise just as most of us do again with the IRI that has kept Iran peaceful and intact in such a violent region and all the same enemies that wish nothing but to tear Iran apart, again.
He loved Iran. it's so obvious by the way he talks about her. I wish he was still around to see the fruit of his handiwork, the result of the foundation that he laid. He wanted the best and did his best for Iran and the Iranians. But his problem was that he started to take on our exploiters to soon. He was telling the truth about the western countries and was sick and tired and hateful of being looked down at.
It is now clear that that the Zionism which he also had begun to expose thought that he was stepping over his boundaries and unseated him so unfairly and murdered him like the way they did. May his soul rest in peace and may a deserving man take his place to lead Iran into the glory it once enjoyed. Viva the heroic people of Iran and may they stand in the glory which the Shah and his alike wished for them

It really is an amazing and complicated story with Iran and the Shah. The social/religious aspect is the most fascinating. I understand the frustration with some aspects of western culture, the fear it brings, hoping your children are not negatively effected by it etc. But it seems the people had this knee jerk reaction to the freedom, combined with propaganda being cranked out at epic levels, and then the people embraced Islamic fundamentalism out of that fear. Would everything be perfect now with US/Iran relations if they hadn't rejected him? No. But at least there would be more talk, less violence and the people could reach for greatness with their freedom. They could have easily held on to their morality in modern times without all of the violence.

It would have been possible to determine the world oil price for Iran. What you say is exactly like the story of the country of sweden Once upon a time in sweden, the government did a lot of work for the welfare of its people. They don't have anything special to do, they commit suicide in a way. In fact, the Iranian revolution at that time was also a mass suicide!

He says here and Mike Wallace that the West wanted Him to bow down to them, and He was not going to do it. The West has this illusive perception about Middle Eastern peoples that they are sitting on back of camels and wondering in desert. This is why there is tension in Canada between East and West.
I have been living in Canada since 1991, and noticed racial profiling and it was approved by the political apparatus, and poor treatment of proletarian class. This whole idea of democracy and freedom is a Trojan Horse.

It was the time when the 1954 oil concession agreement for 25 years was about to end in 1979 and he basically didn’t want to sign any concession with oil companies. He managed to increase the price of the oil in early 70s and create OPEC which resulted world inflation. Yes he shouldn’t have done any interviews with the medias.

I am not too happy about all these media types talking down to the Shah. He is the head of nation that is descendant from the two most prosperous civilizations in the ancient world. Show some $%%#** Respect. He should not have granted these interviews. At least not until the interviewers had personally crawled half a mile through Teheran downtown on their miserable bellies. Does the Queen of England grant any interviews to foreign reporters? Does the PM of Britain? Does the Emperor of Japan? These reporters do not deserve to be in the same as room as His Majesty.
His Father, Reza Shah, a worthy descendant of Cyrus and Ardeshir and Shapur could have been another Ataturk! What an unfortunate nation Iran is. To lose two great kings thus. We Indians understand tragedy. We too lost our great kings Shivaji, Baji Rao, Madhav Rao and Krishnadeva Raya at young ages or under tragic circumstances. Rest in peace, your Majesty. Enjoy the delights of The Heaven of Heroes fallen in battle in the company of those more worthy than the miserable beings populating this miserable planet.

The Shah is a legend. How is that possible to be this accurate about the world? He was right on point answering questions. His wisdom is unbelievable. He was surely ahead of his time and ahead of his countrymen of the time, who apparently could not understand his superbly accurate vision. No wonder that Iranian new generations now chant slogans in favour of the Shah and his son Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi these days in the streets of Iran.

Excellent Exchanges , especially fantastic logic and reasoning in most honest , civilized and straight forward way by Shah of Iran. I must say that the camera's angle and filming was deliberately framed to make Shah look unattractive with zooming to his face excessively! The West wanted Shah out and they framed him from every angle , mainly by the British, American and French Media to demonize him ! Compare to any other leader back then to present, he was an angel ! More than 40 years ago you had a world leader that was fluent in French , English and Persian on every level! A man with profound level of culture and education! He was a father, husband , philosopher, jet pilot, helicopter pilot, an athlete in various ski on snow and water. He was a King ! No other leader back then and to this day has that level of education and consciousness on a personal level ! They had to gang up on him and remove him for their own interest!

The opposition movements against Shah’s domestic and foreign policies started few years before 1979 revolution. Then finally Shah decided in 1976 to open up the parliament for freedom of political speech. Was the country progressing during Shah’s time? Of course it was! But people didn’t have a say in progress of the country. The only group that was active during Shah’s time was the Islamic religious institutions in order to prevent influence of communism or Soviets due to Cold War tensions in the world then. But they still couldn’t say anything against Shah’s policies. Therefore they were the only group that had way more freedom to work underground in mosques against the shah. For example they showed their dislikes against Shah’s White Revolution one law being women having voting rights. Students who got Shah’s scholarship to study abroad joined religious groups only to oppose Shah. Plus the 25 years oil concession with major oil companies was about to end in 1979 and Shah was telling various western medias that: Iran has the know how and the Human Resources to decide how Iran wants to sell its oil to the world. There are tons of his interviews in English French and German about Shah change of foreign policies and full control over Iran’s oil by then Iranian government. He was basically telling them that OPEC will decide the price of oil and we won’t be signing any concession with oil companies anymore. He started chanting Mossadegh’s slogans 25 years earlier. But since he took power by US coup in 1953 and brought into power by the west. The west decided to support the opposition factions and paint the Shah as a brutal dictator in order to get rid of him. Khomeini was into the picture only few months before 1979 revolution and NOT few years before 1979 revolution when other groups were actively working abroad and underground against Shah’s government. Nobody knew much about Khomeini until then. All other opposition groups such as nationalists, communists, mojaheedins, etc. all of them joined under umbrella of Khomeini to get rid of Shah. Khomeini made a lot of promises to the opposition groups and the western medias while he was in France that upon his return to Iran he went opposite of his promises by getting rid of the other opposition groups and taking Americans hostage. The issue is that Khomeini lied (he said “khodee kardam”) to the people and the world and easily got hold of power all to himself. Otherwise he wasn’t a known figure few years before 1979 revolution when different opposition groups were active against the shah since early 70s.

When dad retired from LAPD in 78 he landed a security gig with the Shah's family in Beverly Hills. The son use to enjoy frequenting the night clubs on the West side during that time and the security details were a nightmare according to my father. Weapons were not allowed inside the clubs and all the hardware had to be kept in the trunk of the vehicles making it hard to protect the guy if something went South. They were accustomed to having automatic weapons available at all times because the guy didn't have a lot of fans so I was told.
