After inspection with a jewelers loop, I determined that the white plastic housing that held the clip in place wore out. I have a Casio [555] DBA-80 (using it daily) given to me brand new 1991 when I was very young. I have change the battery several times my self and it have been a pure hell every time to get it going with sometimes hours. About 2 years ago I happened to read a manual to a another Casio and saw it mentioned to put + to AC after battery replacement. Sure I had seen this AC pad the first time I opened the watch and was sure it was the clock signal for calibrations purposes or such. Used a tweezer and put + to this pad and the watch started immediately.
    I just which I had known this 25 years+ ago..

    Is it normal for the display to be absolutely blank after battery replacement? My watch fell of my nightstand and I’m only getting slight flickers of life when I press around on the back of the battery. AC reset does nothing. I’m worried the module is damaged.

    Hello, ive bought a casio cmd 40 TV remote watch! Its on the way to me. The seller said, that he tried to change the batterie by a keymaker/watchrepair store, but the watch dosnt turn on after battery replacemnet. Ive bought the watch anyways, because i think the watch is working, but they didnt knewed, that you have to short it with the ac and the battery. Am i right or this watch dosnt need to be shorted with the ac technique? Thanks!
    I mean is this wath fully funkcioning after you simple put in the battery or has the watch to be shorted?

    • @theoverengineer

      Everything works except the calculator touch pad. TV remote ect all is working but not the calculator.
      I had this before on another casio calculator watch, where ive replaced the battery and some kind of "black rubber/plastic" piece flew out of the watch housing. I didnt knewed how or where to place it and from there on the touch pad never responded anymore.
      Here on tis TV watch i hadnt seen this "black piece"! Should there be one? Or what else could be the problem, that the touch pad dont respond? Ive did the AC reset succesfully and the watch showed 12:00. Thanks

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for shaing you story.Not familiar with that part or calculator watches. That lost piece must be could have 2 possible functions. It could be part of the circuit, without which it stays open and not work. Quite possibly part of ground. Could also be an insulator, then without it you have a short on some of the circuits.

      Black phosphate coating on metal is cosmetic for corrosion prevention, it is a microscopically thin layer. Same thickness over plastics, for cosmetics or looks only.
