      Yes, for many companies, the work they do falls under more than one NAICS code

    Thank you for the information, but I do have a question. Ok, for the EIN you show going to the IRS site. I was under the influence I needed to go to something like legalzoom. If going through the way you showed us will be free, will they also take care of the taxes at the end of the year, or will I need to ?

    Thank you for your videos, I want to bid on a variety of projects so should I put hundreds of naic codes? My plan is to be the middle man coordinating and making a markup.

      Look at it from your buyer's perspective. They are looking to hire a company that is an expert in the field. No small business could possibly be an expert in hundreds of different fields.

    This video was incredibly helpful! I have a small-business/LLC that I'm trying to take to the next level with government contracting. However, as of now, I'm my only employee. Being that there is only one employee (myself) in my business can I still register for SAMS? I'm hoping that I can use a contract to hire more employees.

      Yes, you can register at SAM. When it asks you number of employees, enter 1.

      Last time I checked, SAM would not accept 0 for receipts, but any number greater than 0 works

    Hi, thanks so much for posting these videos, they're a huge help! Quick question, my entity name in SAM is upper and lower case but my name on my IRS EIN registration is all upper case. Besides case, the names match perfectly. Do you think this could cause an IRS TIN Match Validation Failure with SAM registration?

    Hello im not sure if you are still checking the comments....I was in the middle of looking up the naics code and it logged me out. When I try to go to work space and use work in progress it shows 0. When i try to start all the way over and get the unique entity...its now giving me a error message. Ive tried chatting and no one answers...would you possibly have any other suggestions

    I absolutely appreciate what you do, you're a tremendous help. I have a question, right now I am waiting for my entity verification. What is the function "My Roles"? I'm a sole proprietorship/DBA and I'm my only employee as of now. Do I need whatever that means?😊

      Roles is something used by large companies that want to assign different roles to different employees. You'll be the entity administrator for your entity, and you don't need to worry about assigning other roles to other people

    I have a question..
    What if my husband entity LLC registered in Colorado in 2012 but now we moved to Florida as he is tired from the US Air Force( 24yrs) now Veteran and got an IT degree.
    Now doing business in Florida as a foreign entity with Florida Physical home address.
    Do we need to provide both Start entity records and Florida foreign entity records?
    What if we change the Entity name in Colorado state and Florida? They need that record too..
    Or just open New Entity (LLC) in Florida - to make it easy registration approval.
    I am going to talk about the local PTAC as well...but love to get your advice too.

      What you describe is not unusual so I'm sure they've run across this before. To register, submit all the paperwork, and include a detailed note that explains everything to them.

      Yes, that's what the first email says. It probably says Entity Not Found, and also says, an Incident has been opened on your behalf. Then in another few days, you'll receive another email from them with next steps.

    This video was perfect. I received my Unique Entity ID instantly but you did not give directions as to what to do afterwards. The video was geared towards those who had to wait on an email.       Try this: go to your Entity Management Workspace and Update your registration.

      If you're referring to posting your capabilities in the SBA's Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS), then, yes, you have to be classified as a small business. The video walks through how to do this.... For your Primary NAICS Code, list a code for which your business qualifies as small. Some of the NAICS Codes have large size standards, up to 1500 employees or $47 million. Can you find a code for which your business qualifies as Small?

The SBA will NOT allow us small business status because we are tax-exempt. I thought any company could post a statement of capabilities. Again thank you for your quick response.

      @@FedAccess We already have a for-profit company set up in the United Kingdom that is registered with SAM as a subcontractor to us. However, the government has ruled that we are NOT a small business. We have 2 contracts with the government (Navy and NSA). The name of the firm is Sanborn Analytics we use a lot of college kids and professors to complete our work.

    hi, help I cannot pass the load document after selecting the document also with the attachment. The next button isn't highlighted, nor can I move forward.

      When you are uploading your documents, select the document type, and then check the boxes to indicate the information that's contained in the document. If the document contains multiple pieces of information, then check multiple boxes. Attach as many documents as you need to verify all your information. But be sure to check the boxes! The Next button will not be highlighted until all of the boxes are checked.

    This was an awesome tutorial. I have a question. I need to complete questions regarding a certificate of origin. I only been submitting bids for 2 months. A officer reached out to me and said I need to submit this and they will evaluate my bid after I submit it. I just have to fill in the blanks but should I enter the name of 2 countries, if parts were manufactured from 2 different countries. Or will this disqualify me. Because they ask for country of origin and not countries. I am learning how a sensitive the fed gov is and I am
    Afraid that I may get disqualified from winning this bid. Thank you.

      Do you fully understand the government's requirements in this regard? If you are unclear on this, please reach out to your local PTAC. They have people there who can help you understand the government's requirements, and their help is free.

    💥💥THIS IS FANTASTIC! I'm stuck - I can enter my home address, but all of my paperwork (bank statements, incorporation papers) has my work address, which is a UPS Store. If PO boxes aren't allowed, how do I get past this hurdle?

      You can register using your home address. Just explain that you're using the PO Box for mail. Lots of companies do this, so they've seen this before.

      I just went through this. All my stuff is also my mailing address. So what I did was only changed my business bank account to my home address. Everything else that has my mailing address on my documents I left it and uploaded my bank statement that showed my physical address and entity name and that allowed me to go through.

    So how are you able to conceal your address from the public if you can't use a P.O. Box or a virtual address? If you're working out of your home you don't want any random person/company having access to your home address.

So it sounds like the answer to my ORIGINAL question is YES, you can use a virtual address WITH a PO Box as long as there is a PHYSICAL address attached to it. I thought that was a clear simple question but I guess not.

    does what state you register with sam affect your possibilities for contracts? does the state registration affect anything?

      At a high level, you just need to be registered to get a contract. Your physical address might make a difference, if you were going after a contract and they wanted a local contractor, but your address can be different from your state of formation

    After submitting my registration, in the Entity Workspace there's a box that says "Continue Entity Validation" and "You have no active FSD incidents. You can continue entity validation now." There's a button that says "Update Entity". Are we expected to click on this and add more information, or is this just provided in case we want to changing the information that we already entered?

      It sounds like you have not completed your registration. Click the button and continue entering your information. You want the workspace to show Active Registration. Sounds like you are not there yet.

      You can change and do different work for government contracts, however, bear in mind that when you bid on contracts they will ask you to provide relevant past performance experience

    How soon after getting out UEI code, will we receive our cage code? Is there anything extra we have to do to receive the cage after getting the UEI?

      After you receive your UEI, you'll go back into SAM and complete your registration. Once you submit your registration, I've heard from people that it is taking 2-4 weeks for the registration to become Active.

    I’m at the very first page and it says entity then uei, lbn then next line says role. Idk what to put in those. And the last row says domain. Also what is a good entity name? Idk what kind of micro contracts I’ll find so I don’t want to put a name that restricts me from bidding in certain things.

However, it sounds like you haven't formed your business yet. You'll need to form the business first, before you can register the business in SAM. Many people choose generic names that will allow the business to expand in new directions over time.

    I spent months gathering info to start a business around government contracting only to be told as a fed employee, I don't have the ability to do so.Its double dipping, then others are but can't advise on the verbiage that exempts you from legalities. I'm stumped confused and stuck. Then noone knows how to start contracting on the city, state level and I don't have 1000s to spend on information and I don't mind researching but I just don't have a clue Any suggestions?

    In the "Proceedings Question" section, they ask "Is your business or organization, as represented by the Unique Entity ID on this entity registration, responding to a Federal procurement opportunity that contains the provision at FAR 52.209-7, subject to the clause in FAR 52.209-9 in a current Federal contract, or applying for a Federal grant opportunity which contains the award term and condition described in 2 C.F.R. 200 Appendix XII?" There's no option to respond with "I have no idea what the hawk your talking about." Can you explain how one should answer this, assuming that we do not what to start reading through hundreds of procurement opportunity and grant opportunity documents to see if they mention these FARs?

      @@FedAccess Well this turned out to be a fatal issue for me. I answered "No" so they decided not to issue me a CAGE code, and that stopped me from being able to use my organization during the grant application process. I missed the application deadline because I guessed incorrectly on this impossible to answer question.

    I registered an LLC in Washington just so that I could apply for a NASA NIAC award. I'm the only person/employee/partner of this LLC. When they ask "What is the form of your entity as defined by the IRS?" There seems to be no choice in their list that matches well. Should I select "other"?

      I can't see the exact question you're asking about, but i suspect basically they're asking how you file your taxes with the IRS. For example, if you file as a sole proprietor, you could select that.

    I just started my LLC in March of this year. I have no receipts to show because I am a new entity. Can I still register in Sam? I am starting a janitorial business. Can I use the number of employees (right now it's just me) to register with my janitorial business not being a manufacturing business?

    I recently registered for my SAMS account, and I got an email back about my CAGE code they’re needing a few things and I’m confused about a couple of them. It seems they’re not linking my gmail email, also it’s asking a few things about the POC I will post it here.
    In order for CAGE to process this registration, please answer the following questions about the POC data provided:
    • Is each POC an owner, officer, employee or partner of the company/organization? We do NOT accept a Government Business POC listed as the company name, department, division or any federal agency contracting official I do not want to be rejected what am I supposed to answer? I’m single member LLC. Thank you!

      Here's what some single member LLCs do. The owner of the LLC lists themselves as the POC. You can list the same person for each of the different POCs they ask for. In that case, when they ask, is each POC an owner, the answer is Yes.

      You can bid on any contract. If the NAICS code isn't one you've listed in your SAM registration, I suggest you go back into SAM and add that NAICS code

    All of my documents say that I am registered with the IRS and the state as an LLC (I am a "registered agent" according to the state), but I can't get a CAGE code when I put in my business name as an LLC. It's stating that I may need to enter my actual name and then my LLC as a DBA. Is this accurate? I already have my UEI and I pass the TIN validation for my LLC. I'm stuck on the CAGE part.

      Is your company a single member disregarded entity? that may be the issue, or the question they are asking. I would reply to the email from the CAGE people and ask them for clarification.

      If you go to the website fsd.gov, you can chat with them and ask them what the status is. It could be that you need to do something, so it's worth asking them

      Last time I checked, SAM required that you enter a number of at least $1 for annual receipts in order to submit your registration. You can register with a small number like $1.

      They'll issue a cage code for your business when you register in SAM. It usually takes a couple weeks after you submit your registration to receive the CAGE code.
