Watched the video with great interest. My next trip out, yesterday, I experienced the same issue fishing pellet down the margin. I knew there were carp in the swim but couldn’t get a take. I remembered to try a worm a straight away a bite, resulting in a lovely 12lb 4oz mirror carp. Thanks Jamie and crew. Great video.
One key takeaway for me was there is no need to be really accurate in groundbaiting. All it took was a couple of carp swimming through the baited area flapping their big fins and tail to spread bait over quite a wide area. You can just imagine the turbulence caused by a bunch of hungry F1s and how far your precisely targeted ground bait could be spread.
Definitely food for thought! Would being less accurate spread the bait and fish over an even bigger area though, meaning even less chance of a bite? Who knows!
This is a huge eye opener, its insane. i swear down now they knew the hook bait was a hazard and avoided it a lot of the time. Just goes to show these fish are a lot smarter than we may think they are.
Fascinating to see the massive shoal of roach completely move away when the carp move in, but also surprising that those tiny roach didn't seem to be pecking at the hookbait - either corn or worm.
What a great video! Can't quite understand why Jamie didn't "match the hatch", 4mm or 6mm banded pellet feeding micros. They were clearly hoovering up the 2mm, corn was a waste of time. Worm worked, bigger pellet would of been good to see the reaction. Get the boss some bigger and better screens lads, please make more of this content.
@@ifishmatrix Loved it and learnt alot, those carp know more that we think imo, Ive learnt they they always come back, i didnt realize how spooked they get with a rod/poll over the water, i knew i was onto winner with smallest rod and pole float, different set up but it works for sure, like bagging all the time, specially with that curved anchor, also, i think the corn would of worked well if it was just corn on the bottom and micros, like a bed of it, big amount then decrease over time, but yeah depends what they want on the day, thanks again

That was fantastic. I have fish for salmon for over 40 years and i have just bought a pole. I have joined the dark side. Watching this vid you stated you needed a stand out bait ! you where fishing corn that's a stand out bait! when you fished the worm to me the fish where just grazing and came across your worm and ate it. Because it was a natural bait. At one point of the vid a fish eat a lot of micros and spat the hole lot out. I think watch this vid the bait needs to be as natural as possible. The camera man said you need more bait because the fish have eaten it all so if you where fishing a similar pellet would you have caught just as many on pellet. To conclude the fish where more confident with the micros so a small pellet in the micros could have been just as good. you would have to do the same vid again to see the difference. Regards Alan Robinson
Great video. This video explains why corn can be so hit-and-miss. I've had great days down the edge on micros and corn and fished the same peg a week later and only caught skimmers even when I could see carp mooching around the swim constantly. Could also explain why paste is so deadly. If they are attacking the micos like that, I imagine it's the same with a big ball of paste in front of their noises.
That was really fascinating and intereseting. Clever buggers and picky to boot. 2 hours with pretty much no interest whatsoever with the hook bait , almost like cant be bothered and not even inquisitve about that so I wont even bother having a look see. Chuck a worm on , oh hello that looks interesting. Awesome video, cheers fellas.
Would have liked to see Jamie try 2 or 3 grains of sweetcorn on the hook, just to see if the fish would pick that out better ?? Very interesting video. Cheers.
What an eye opener. Lesson learnt is to pot feed in and fish a stand out bait on the edge of your Pile. I think 8mm Pellet, Worm, 2 Grains Corn, Lunchean meat or large Punched bread are all variety's of stand out baits. My only question is that it would make for interesting viewing if you tried this exercise in the typical Margin of a Commercial. I think the result could be quiet different from the this one. Give it some thought Guy's. Great Video Guy's. Cheers
My go to is normally bread over micros works for me but it depends on the day! But I always try to have contrast between my feed and hookbait! Stand out baits work the carp lads have being doing it for years! 👍🏻
Omg glad I can’t see what is going on under the water. It would frustrate the hell out of me to the point off giving up fishing. Just goes to show how sensitive fish are. Great video though well done 😊😊
I've lost my faith in sweetcorn 🤣Amazing vid to watch and incredibly insightful. Well done. It definitely changes your opinion on whether a colourful stand out bait is the focus for the fish or not. So many variables it drives you crazy but give it up for the mighty worm.
Sweetcorn on a commercial works wonders, i have a friend that rarely uses it cus hes had no success, just take a bog bag off it, keep feeding and you will be picking them off end game, trust me, if Jamie could do this on a commercial with clear water it would be a different story
@@martinricketts8708 Totally, sweetcorn is a go to bait for me personally too, especially on most commercials. It would be amazing to see one of these videos on a commercial but guessing the water visibility would be an issue
Used worm at the weekend on Hawford bridge, Penlake pool. Only caught small Perch on it. Switched to 4mm and 6mm Pellet. Couldn't get bites. Switched to Corn. Fed it sparingly as I only had one tin. Caught 149lb of Carp. It wasn't enough to win but I was happy that I got the best out of a less favoured peg. Biggest mistake with corn is that many anglers put too much in. It is a visual bait and must look terrible if the bottom is covered with it.
Great vid. It would be interesting to repeat on a muddy commercial to find out if the stand out bait still gets more bites. If the camera can't see the stand out bait, maybe the fish won't either.
Great vid guys. Many thanks. Some future ideas... You could try other 'stand-out' baits such as meat or paste. Try flicking the rig out away from the top kit to see if it avoids the overhead spook that you keep getting. Try a white/grey skyline type kit to see if they avoid the spook and actually work!
Awsome video loved it I face that problem a lot spooking fish of never realised it was my pole or rig 😅popped to the tackle shop got my dendras for tommorow.😂thanks both for a very incitful video I learnt a lot....and for the master not to catch with a swim full of carp oh dear😮
I love underwater filming, you can't argue with it...... Interestingly I've just watched the Guru 'Carp/Match' podcast with Dovey, Spooner, Matt Godfrey and Ringer too. They kind of reached some of the same conclusions as you via all their underwater filming experience too. Preoccupation with small particles and using stand out baits, rather than playing the slow 'lottery'. They had a lot of similar experiences, with similar answers and experiments to try. Your film was kind of 'big carpy' too. So fishing beyond the spot and the fish avoiding being over the main bait area was discussed by all of the pro anglers. As for stand out baits.....a pink wafter is definitely one to try apparently.
Could you do a submerged video with paste I'd love to see the difference of how sloppy to firm paste works. How a rig with shot compared to a rig without shot. With feeding pellets compared to hemp.
really intreaesting edge video jamie the carp seemed to get occupied on the micros and were weary of the corn the rig info was intreasting as those wise carp kept bolting when ever they touch the rig. they were seemed to be proper clued up i wonder if paste would have worked feeding 6mm pellets or method feeder on the pole
jamie said when he plumbed up the bottom felt really smooth , don't know how that could be with the amount of stones on bottom and they obviously didn't help his little piece of corn sitting among them , lesson learnt that a lot of loose feed is needed to keep them carp mooching before laying in your stand out bait
They were actually mostly old zebra mussel shells. You'll notice the bottom of the lake change throughout the video. In the beginning it is covered in a layer of fine particles, but by the end of the video this has gone and the shells stand out much more!
What a superb watch! So many questions and just a hint at some answers. Notably for me is I have a love/hate relationship with corn as a hookbait- its either the best or the worst and we've just seen that underwater! Great stuff, keep them coming 👍
