Looking back, I'm pretty confident in saying the vibes came from the players, the chaos came from Emery. Literally, all the vibes that season were individual moments from a fit and firing Ramsey, peak Auba, in-form Lacazette, and Ozil when he could actually be arsed. Genuinely one of the most overrated managers out there- something you only truly realise when he's managing your club. Thank fuck we went with Mikel in the end, because things had got completely out of control into his second season with us.

What's never mentioned is that despite all the Europa wins, he has the biggest bottle job in CL history, blowing a 4-0 first-leg lead to lose the second leg 6-1 against Barcelona. In his first season, Arteta secured the FA Cup, a feat facilitated by his predecessor, Unai. Unai, who has since gone on to achieve multiple accolades elsewhere, was never given the trust and backing he needed. It's disheartening to still be told to "trust the process." Let's consider, Wenger left behind a team with players like Kolasinac and Mustafi still on long contracts. Whose oversight was that? It seems Unai was set up from the start to shoulder the blame.

Emery didnt' much improve the consistency - but maybe his tenure was a bit too short. The current team under Arteta (April 2024 hopeful of winning the title ;-D) is amazing, the discipline in midfield and defence is at another level, but still (in my humble opinion) lack the striking power of the early 2000s.
One of the most incredible things with Arteta is how quickly he sorted our awful defence out - we were so weak at the back. Glad Emery has found plenty of success though, he's a great manager but I don't think he worked at Arsenal (though perhaps needed more time).

It was purely chaotic, there wasn't a whole lot of hope for the future and we had no idea if youngsters like Saka and ESR were going to make it. Towards the end of Arteta's first full season there was hope due to the youngsters being embedded into the lineup and our strong end to the season, and the knowledge that we were going to invest in the summer. I felt way worse at the end of this season being 5th than I felt in 2021/22 when we finished 8th

The attack was fine, but the defense was shambolic. They conceded 51 goals in 38 games which averages into 1.34 goal conceded per game. The Chelsea team that finished 12th last year "only" conceded 47 goals, averaging into 1.24 goal conceded per game.

I don't think this was as bad as people think. We finished 5th and it was Unai's first full season. If he was given time I'm sure we would have improved and maybe in a few years challenged for a title. But I'm glad we got MA now so I guess it was the right move to let him go.

In my opinion Emery was the right manager at the wrong time for us. He was dealt a bad hand with the squad we had. If he was managing the team we have now we would’ve won some more silverware

The attack was fine, but the defense was shambolic. They conceded 51 goals in 38 games which averages into 1.34 goal conceded per game. The Chelsea team that finished 12th last year "only" conceded 47 goals, averaging into 1.24 goal conceded per game.

I don't think this was as bad as people think. We finished 5th and it was Unai's first full season. If he was given time I'm sure we would have improved and maybe in a few years challenged for a title. But I'm glad we got MA now so I guess it was the right move to let him go.
