i know this video isn’t perfect but i really wanted to dive in and bring awareness to the toxic side of being launched into the music industry at such a young age, especially since this video was extremely requested.
unfortunately so many artists are treated like this and it’s horrible what famous people have to endure but once again i’m so happy the boys had each other and that they’re happy and successful.

i would say this is the dark side of boy bands, most boy bands are like that, i'm a fan of many kpop bands and my family has a history of being let's say "passionate fans" and i see these kinds of things over and over, many celebrities are just so miserable, because they're used like a sort mix between slaves and prostitutes and it makes me feel disgusted.

Zayn talked about his eating disorder being about him needing to control something and because everything else was without his control he started controlling what he ate. Just this shows how controlled everything was.
Eating disorders are almost always about control at heart, being hungry also has a numbing effect. I think it is likely that he skipped a few meals because he didn't have time to eat, and realised that when he skipped meals her felt a little bit better, more numb and in control. I feel so, so sorry for him. I used to be my sisters primary carer when she had anorexia, it is an utterly horrific illness.

Liam also once said that he felt like singing in live performance non-stop almost made him loose his love for music. It makes sense really, because not only does he have the most solos in the overall 1D album catalogue, he was always also doing the most backing / harmonies in live performances. Management really capitalised on his near perfect pitch control all whilst ignoring Louis and Niall who also had great voices and could have been given more solos. Plus Louis and Liam did the most song writing. Talk about overworked.

What absolutely breaks my heart is how people ignore the 10 years of charity work Louis has done and paint him as this guy who doesn’t care about anything. Seeing how much he cared about Anthony Russell on the X factor really got to me. I was so happy to see him finally get a chance to show that he truly cares about people on that show because he’s been so underrated during his career.

Niall even said recently in an interview how thankful he was to have the boys throughout One Direction. He used Justin Beiber as an example and said that he felt really bad for Justin because he had no one to go through that with. He said it got really hard at times but he wasn't alone. He said the boys were always there to talk because they knew how it felt, they were all going through this together.
Hmm and the fact that justins management didn't care that he used drugs up to a point where they almost killed him and they had to cancle the tour=he wasn't able to make any money. This just sais so much about the indusry..

That's the thing. Justin had to go through so much shit behind the scenes and he was completely alone it. Kinda like Michael jackson. Justin was this 14 year old boy who ended up selling put Madison Square garden at 15 or 16. He sold it out 3 times in 2 -3 years. And that sounds like an accomplishment which it is but he was still doing school. Didnt have any friends. Was around adults and only adults. And you see where that makes it go downhill. And then he got older and still couldn't trust anybody. Was a 18-19 year old boy on his what 4 album 2nd world tour and a millionaire that millions of girls loved. He didnt have anybody to go to. U can see he completely lost control. And when it went downhill still nobody cared. His management did nothing. His manager scooter tried. Justin's relationship with selena and the drugs and partying and then to do interviews and concerts traveling the world. That's a lot. The media even made it seem like hes dated hundreds of girls. Yeah he was hanging out and talking to a lot of girls but never serious with any except hailey and selena. The media made up constant lies about him and made him seem so horrible he was labeled girly or gay as a kid. He is probably one of the most bullied celebrities of the generation. Yeah he lashes out and gets angry but the fans have to understand he can't do anything without ppl wanting pictures constantly. They don't even want to talk to him they just want a picture. Also the last tour of Justin's he did a world tour then stadiums and an Australian leg. He was non stop for 2 years. His touring company was the same one that was with mj for this is it. They over work them so much. u can see justin fell into a pit of depression again. And this is why when ppl hate on justin I want them to understand hes human and he may have all the materialistic things in the world but that doesnt make the loneliness go away. Like you said the boys had each other and justin didnt have a single thing in his life to keep him humble and stable. Hes not a bad guy honestly. I honestly think that now that they have grown, have more experience in the industry and most of them are signed to different labels, if they come back I think they will unite and stand up to any bad treatment. But I agree, hopefully a new management ❤️

I remember watching a behind the scenes video of wmyb and loui was describing the plot of the song about a “hot girl” as he said “hot” twice and Harry corrected him and told him it was beautiful not hot and I just thought that was really sweet lol

Yeah, many of us bought into the branding but it wasn’t our fault. Just like 1D, we were all just kids and wanted to believe in the perfect cliche boy group and maybe even liked that about them. We didn’t know anything about hyper-sexualisation or anxiety disorders. It wasn’t until after they had broken up and everyone got older, was when I started to realize how one dimensional all of their “personalities” really were. Who we thought they were, was essentially just overplayed boy band roles and the fact that they could never truly be their real selves in 1D really makes my heart break bc I think they’re all genuinely good guys all things considered.
i was like 7 and this video kinda ruined my childhood but i’m so grateful i clicked on it because now looking back, i realize how much truth there is in this video. when you’re so young, you don’t think about anything bad that is happening to your favorite people in the world. i genuinely thought that zayn left because he wanted to pursue a solo career and he hated the boys, again cause i was 7, i didn’t know the real story.

Honestly, same. I was in middle school when I first saw them on the X Factor back in 2010, and I just believed the roles they were forced to fall into. I know I shouldn’t blame myself for believing the lies because honestly I was too young to really understand what was going on, but I still do, because while I was over here having the time of my life and gushing about the boys and everything, they were literally going through so much.
Another thing is Larry. They are the reason why I was able to come out, but they were also the reason why I didn’t want to come out at first. The fact that the management had forbidden Louis and Harry to come out sent out a clear message that really scarred me: being gay is wrong. It took me so long to realize the little hints and find the Larry fandom that dedicate their time to find the small clues and constantly encourage the boys to be themselves. It was in this fandom where I found people that supported me and convinced me that there was nothing wrong with me.
I truly wish that if the boys ever get back together, they realize that technically, they’re not supposed to be working FOR the management, but it’s the other way around. Managers are hired to work FOR the artist, and One Direction had - and still do - the power to fire their management and find someone else. Of course, I don’t expect them to have known that, because they were so young when they started and didn’t know how the music industry worked, but they're older now, and I really hope they know this now.

I saw this quote in an article about how behind the scenes "Louis was the mouthpiece, constantly fighting the boys’ corner and acting as chief negotiator between band and management". I think since he was the oldest he was really protective over the other boys and he was their voice in meetings, and he probably sacrificed a lot to support the others. i just hope it didn't take too much of a toll on his own mental health

in the movie that’s free on TH-cam of one direction it literally made me sick, it talked about Harry styles and a bunch of different women FOR TWENTY MINUTES I just felt so awful for him because he couldnt even have a say in it.
I totally agree with you (Harry has been over-sexualised since 2010 and it must have bothered him at some point) but I do think he is naturally flirty/playful. I hate that the medias over-exaggerate it and portray him as a womaniser (quite the opposite- he’s too respectful to be like that) but he’s the flirty kind... it’s been known that he knows how to use his charms and he writes songs about cunnilingus (with dozens of women lol)

When the band broke up and went their separate ways with their own music you could tell they were so much happier, especially Niall. From being the little blond Irish boy who’s mic got cut off to how he is now is so amazing.

I know that 1D had a lot more freedom than other boybands and I'm glad that they enjoyed their time there (again, not all of it was bad!), but that doesn't mean they weren't heavily controlled behind the scenes. I’m watching this in 2023 and literally as it finished Louis posts a video promoting his new documentary and he says he felt like he had no control for the first 2.5 years until he decided to write songs for the band 😭😭 he sounded like he thinks he isn’t important because he didn’t get to sing certain verses etc … I just want to give them all a massive hug and let them all know how proud I am of them! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Why do I feel like Harry auditioning for Dunkirk was him genuinely trying to erase that "womanizer" label and make people look him in a different light. it confuses me why people still ask things like why has harry’s style changed so extremely since 1D or why does louis make such different songs now, like- the boys are doing things they weren’t allowed to do and fulfilling dreams that they weren’t allowed to pursue for FIVE years of their lives. of course their current decisions (how they dress, act, speak, etc) are going to look drastically different from when they were in the band, because now they finally have the freedom and independence to actually decide those things for themselves.

I feel like Zayn knew what management was trying to do from the very start and is why he left, and the poor man copped so much flack for it. I pray one day they all make a documentary together and show the truth of what happened behind the scenes because I can’t even imagine all the shit and heart break we don’t even know about except them. If they never took this break, not all 5 of them would probably be still here today. I honestly don’t know how they dealt/still deal with it all especially at such a young age. I’m always forever going to be proud of them for handling those 5 years with so much love and respect for their fans and doing what they love. I know we all want them back, but they deserved this break more then anyone in the world. All 5 of them have the most incredible talent and wholesome personality which is why we love them so very very much. Thankyou for making this video on behalf of them as I feel they still struggle/scared to voice what happened during those ‘perfect’ years. XX

Zayn didn’t know from the start he was 17 years old kid like rest, he was the one who got the worse end of the deal, because his music wasn’t recorded, he was called terrorist and racially abused and management didn’t help him, so he suffered the most compared the rest, when he left he was abused by 1D fans to this day and people who abused him are sympathising when Liam and Harry said something he been saying past five years the double standard became he is POC and was Muslim when he was in the band.

The Liam being an alcoholic kinda hurt though cuz didn’t he mention in the book they wrote that he needs to be careful with alcohol due to not having both kidneys work? Imagine he sought to drink to feel better and to not stress but could’ve damaged his other kidney. Like bruhhh 😕
His second kidney repaired itself in 2012 after all the medication and diet changes he had to endure, which is why he was even able to survive alcohol dependency during 1D. It’s all just so sad.
I remember reading about how they forced Niall to keep bleaching his hair even though he didn’t want to and I just realized how controlling their management was. I honestly feel so bad for them, they went through so much and were so overworked, I hope if they ever come back they aren’t treated like this, it was just awful
Have watched a video during their x factor days i was shocked that niall's hair was bleached. They were really manipulated and controlled.
Especially in the Four era his hair was longer and they wanted him to keep bleaching it like it was almost white.

It breaks my heart that Harry had to go through being called a "womanizer", a "playboy" and even an "abuser", because of his messed up management. A girl even said that Harry had invited her over once and they had literally talked and people just assumed that they had been doing something dirty.

The saddest thing about this whole conversation is that it worked. I loved them, I loved their music and their friendship. All the fans were being fed false images of what the media wanted to portray the HUMAN BEINGS these boys were and we ate it because we were young and couldn't see past what is essentially some very toxic personality traits that the boys DIDNT have.
