I feel like while there are stronger pushes you can make, Lincoln's ability push has this little bit of special bonus in that it is incredibly safe to do. You go for a lot of free units. If you get some new resources and cities, great. Even if the push peters out though, you still haven't spent twelve turns doing nothing but make units, and have a stronger production capability behind. Even if you don't use them for a sudden push, having a standing army without maintenance cost basically means free gold you can spend for your other pursuits. There's other "defense-oriented civs" for sure, but he feels very right in how he makes it a thing.
Also, the farm buff is super based. Mines are op if you look at improvement placement. And I think that a good start is making the farm give +1 or +2 housing. I always found it strange that it gave 0.5 housing and felt weird to me.
To me i feel like they should interact with other cities districts maybe. So if there is a comercial district in a neighbor city the farm also gives that city some food. (As in real life that city would probably buy food fron that farm) or maybe just something like they give food to all cities in a radius or something
The thing about Civ 6 and game alike it is that it could be the only game a company makes for decades! There are so many little intricacies that can be fixed and tuned and elevated. Leaders balanced and rebalanced and so much more. I doubt we’ll see any major changes with the leader pass, I 100% see it as a last hurrah for Civ 6 before work on Civ 7 enters full production and Civ 6 is no longer actively supported. The rest is up to modders.
I love how both of our Lincoln games have so far opened exactly the same: heavy mountains,pesky loyalty problems and very aggro neighbors (been burning it at both ends with Harald and Matthias Corvinus the whole damn game meself lol)
I just started a game with Jadwiga. I spawned right next to that pink tree losange natural wonder, in the tundra, and picked the tundra pantheon. My holy site has at least 10 adjacency. For some reason I decided to try to get the envoy convoy achievement, so I worked on the TOA with my spare turns, got the apadana with Imhotep (?), and the oracle, too. Then I completed the TOA, but while that was going on, Corvinus surprise attacked me, but I managed to slowly fend him off with archers. Now at turn 200 something, I have 2 polish cities, and 3 Hungarian ones, including Matthias' capital. 😎 Now I'm gonna backfill my empire, and either switch into a cultural win, a religious win, or just keep going with the domination. I play on Prince, so I get less bragging rights, but still, I wanted to share this.
Work ethic Peter is insane with this strat. Cheap holy cites that are basically industrial zones. If you can ride golden ages you can abuse monumentality super hard so you basically never hard build non military units, and all that impressive production goes to districts, buildings, and military units. Getting the building that lets you buy units with faith is a good late game shift to use faith if you need military, otherwise you can buy great people. Plus he gets extra great people points too. Peter is a beast. Def recommend getting gudwaras or something for food tho. If you can, place cities on the edge of the tundra with some decent workable food tiles and then throw the holy sites back where they're surrounded by tundra.

Even if you don't get one, your holy sites will generate faith got monumentality golden ages. Lately, I've also been expanding early, and chopping more often. I've still got some stuff to learn, but I feel I'm slowly but surely getting there.
@@charleszp938 noice. You don't need a religion with non faith oriented civs, but most victory conditions need some faith for great people. Usually you wanna build your victory condition building in most cities and then make sure you have at least a few campuses, holy sites, commercial hubs/docks, and culture districts across your empire. If you do any warfare, one or two military districts for generals is fine. Industrial zones are great if your civ has a unique one or for cities with a spaceport for sci victories. If you go religion, on high difficulties you do an immediate settler then rush religion. Otherwise you do a couple early settlers mixed with other stuff, then do a few more settlers, then build up cities, then do a few more. 8-10 cities is usually fine, but more is better. Ideally you wanna stop settling soon after turn 100 so you can start building toward victory at turn 200-250 (regular speed). Doing things in waves lets you take advantage of policy cards.
It's always fun to see the "diplomacy turn" that you mentioned with the open borders! I dont know if it is just because I am playing on the PS4 but I love getting about 2+ gold per turn by offering open borders by itself after declaring a friendship, then buying open borders for a single gold from the AI. It really helps boost the economy as well as trade routes! Fun little exploit I use in my games since I am shackled to the normal trade screens.

I think its cool that the city you placed by two rivers happened to be St. Louis. Also Its location in relation to chicago, boston and baltimore is somewhat realistic.
Lincoln shines even more when you start in a late enough era for industrial zones to come with their factories and with a cheap cost, letting you print infantries, capture enemy cities and print more infantries. It's satisfying to get Domination with free (and upkeep free) infantry swarms with zero to minimal siege support
Just finished my first Lincoln game, if you end up with Akkad you're pretty much unstoppable. I had more oil-free Infantry than I knew what to do with at the end.
It feels like a bug, but I played a Lincoln game and got a unit for converting a coal factory to oil, and another for converting it back to coal. I assume I could have done this endlessly, but I stopped before I made my save too easy. Fun exploit though if it sticks around and doesn't get patched
Now that I’ve played all new civs… I definitely slept on Abe. I don’t think he’s a top tier civ, but played optimally he’s a good underdog civ because he can make a late game domination victory work, a area that most other domination civs struggle in (with obvious exceptions). I think Caesar is the best new leader because his ability actually synergises with Rome unlike the other 3 that are unfortunately standalone, but Lincoln will definitely have staying power as a relevant leader. Also my favourite was Saladin… but not because of the new leader, i did a insane science rush game and realised how OP last prophet is. Now I’m a big fan of base game Saladin, and I think the new Saladins flanking bonus would be better on a different civ, possibly a naval one like England or Portugal
Not sure how much use you will get from it, but at 20:44 you can see from Kabul's map info the edge of the bermuda triangle. If there are any islands out there, the amount of science becomes insane. Also era score.
I made a mod once that gave farms adjacent to rivers +1 food after Irrigation. It also allowed farms to be built on deserts adjacent to oases after irrigation. That one was useful if you had petra, otherwise not so much.
Am I the only one who realise that he is upgrading plantations to get luxury resources in order to improve his loyalties... when literally one of the characteristics of Abe Lincoln is that he lose loyalty by plantations?
Yeah I played new Congo on deity with 0 mods just to check it out and won a culture victory with very little optimization which astounded me. She’s just like… casually strong.
I started playing abe and rushed industrial zones(marathon, emperor, max civs) and now I'm unstoppable force of 600 combat strength in the ancient era with like 6 man-at-arms and a vampire with a plus 27, best of all, the whole army has zero maintenance costs. It's turn ~150. Most of the AI doesn't even have early empires yet, its so easy to crush them with his sheer military strength.

I had my first diety win on Marathon. The slow pace makes errors less pronounced and its easier to boost your techs and civics. Plus its fun to stay in the early game for so long. It is a big time investment tho.
@@KingEdward27 faster speeds equal less chance to course correct, normal is the fastest I play at or even the next slow one. Units stay relevant longer and more time to mess around which is important.
Normal speed is fine. Get the basics figured out first. Production is king. Read all the info, it all makes sense and the UI in Civ 6 is very good. Take your time and play some easy games, it’ll make senses over time.
Relatively new to Civ 6 and I don't fully understand how the new District meta works. Around the 32:00 mark, Potato pulls up a city Overlap map, that I have never seen, and comments on where to place an Entertainment Complex. Do these Districts work on (or affect) neighboring cities, like cities can all share them or something? Usually I am trying to build every District in every city, so all my cities are a minimum of 5 tiles from each other so I have the room to space the Districts out around my city.
After thinking this over, I’m definitely not happy with Lincoln’s powers. I don’t mind the -2 loyalty from plantations, but I’m not happy with the +3 loyalty to industrial zones. I would like a stronger bonus for industrial zones instead of the loyalty debuff. Would love to hear what you think
Do you mean stronger bonus for Indy zones instead of the loyalty BUFF?! If not, well YEAH, EVERYONE would like to have a stronger buff with no downside! Though that downside really doesn't seem THAT bad!
I didn't know that better balanced starts has a more wonders option. There is a stand alone mod for this if you don't want to buff the AI as much in the process.

talk to me about tempo. i hear you talk about it alot and in other videogames. i see here uve said tempo comes from bonus culter per turn sci per turn gpt. does it come in other forms. how should i use my tempo. i wanna go from playing on emperor to high diff and there requires a better understanding.
Tempo is basically how fast you are going. If your tempo is low you cannot attack other players or win. If your tempo is high you can attack other players and win. Science, Culture, Gold and Production all give you tempo for example
I still don’t get why my hometown of Cincinnati is the seventh city America builds. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good city and is decently sized, but it’s not all that historically significant. It’s just an odd choice

Ok so like here's the thing, I did an abe game to test him out and it was only when I was -20 gold I remembered that he gets units for building industrial zones and their buildings. Didn't have a gold income again until the industrial period was over lol

I don't know why you made the +3 combat strength sound so complicated 😁. It gives you +3 combat strength. That's as simple as it is and needs to be lol. I'm not sure all the scenarios you explained really added anything. You just get +3 combat strength relative to where you were against the opponent before you got the civic 😊
When he completed the industrial zone, Potatoe got a musketman from Abe's ability. He wanted to delay until he'd researched Line Infantry, rather than have to pay to upgrade the unit. Goal was, have every city spit out a Line Infantry the turn after he finished the research, then swarm Arabia.
Because of Lincoln's unique ability. It gives a free military unit on completing industrial zones or the buildings in it. He is waiting to complete line infantry tech first, so that the free units he gets will all be line infantry. He basically spawns an entire army of strong units in one turn.

+1 housing and +1 food when adjacent to a river or aqueduct would make it waay better and not broken
There is one mode that I use for farms. Basically like you said the farms give 1 house instead of 0,5. And It Is way better
It'd be cool if farms gave some sort of adjacency bonus to a district.

I would honestly recommend messing around with the faster game speeds first so you have more experience with the late game and finishing games out.

talk to me about tempo. i hear you talk about it alot and in other videogames. i see here uve said tempo comes from bonus culter per turn sci per turn gpt. does it come in other forms. how should i use my tempo. i wanna go from playing on emperor to high diff and there requires a better understanding.
Tempo is basically how fast you are going.
If your tempo is low you cannot attack other players or win.
If your tempo is high you can attack other players and win.
Science, Culture, Gold and Production all give you tempo for example

Ok so like here's the thing, I did an abe game to test him out and it was only when I was -20 gold I remembered that he gets units for building industrial zones and their buildings. Didn't have a gold income again until the industrial period was over lol

It gives you +3 combat strength. That's as simple as it is and needs to be lol.
I'm not sure all the scenarios you explained really added anything. You just get +3 combat strength relative to where you were against the opponent before you got the civic 😊

When he completed the industrial zone, Potatoe got a musketman from Abe's ability. He wanted to delay until he'd researched Line Infantry, rather than have to pay to upgrade the unit. Goal was, have every city spit out a Line Infantry the turn after he finished the research, then swarm Arabia.

Because of Lincoln's unique ability. It gives a free military unit on completing industrial zones or the buildings in it. He is waiting to complete line infantry tech first, so that the free units he gets will all be line infantry. He basically spawns an entire army of strong units in one turn.
