I just cannot describe how elevating and how deeply satisfying it is to listen again and again to this beautiful rendition of 'Sogasuga Mrudanga Talamu'. Sri KVN's music is a downpour of pure divine energy to cleanse and wash away the negativity that ails planet Earth. To the poster who posted this, please continue to post more.
Thanks vichella! KVN the great and with his death we lost one of the last bastions of depth and purity in carnatic music. His singing brings out the years of extreme practice and patience that he put in to produce such calibre music. His another masterpiece in this same raga is Kaana Vendaamo.. aam kaana mudiyadhu..Well we cannot see the likes of him ever again.
What a beautiful voice by Mr.K.V.N Sir in the early Morning ? Thanks again for your perusal.Congrats.Super b performance.Brilliant effects.Exceiient performance.Funtastic performance.Funtabulous.Amazing voice. Thanks again.S. Madhvan.
Many young boys and girls ALL OVER THE WORLD yearning and striving to learn Carnatic music with dedicated and perservering effort will be grateful to those who enable them thus to listen to the great diversity of maestros and seasoned musicians(like KVN sampled here). The Gurukula system all but disappeared, due to various reasons.(In the initial stages,a would-be performing artiste would do well to learn under ONE Guru for some time.)However all of us should support their by buying CDs,DVDs,etc.
Thak u, uTube because of u we can traverse the good old days I had the good fortune to be close to KVN's. PADMAJI HAS SHARED FOOD ALMOST EVERY WEEK ENDS to me WHILE AT CHENNAI FOR 3 YEARS. I Had the privilege to go with him and listen to him. I am still to come across a great musician and great Human being both combined like KVN. People should never ever forget him.HOW FOTUNATE I AM CS PUTTU RAO FROM B'LURU
Superb by KVN Mama ! Kudos ! Sogasugaa mridhanga Ragam Sri Ranjini 22 Mela Janya Rupaka Talam Thyagarajar Krithi Sogasuga Mrdanga Talamu by Tyagaraja in which he defines the components of a kriti (composition) as yati (the framework or pattern in which swaras and words are arranged), vishrama(peacefulness), true devotion, sweetness and navarasa or the nine moods (love, laughter, fury, compassion, aversion, terror, heroism, wonder, peacefulness). The songs, says Tyagaraja, should be imbued with the meaning of the Upanishads, have a purity of notes and sung to the accompaniment of mRdanga. It is evident that sahitya plays a central part in Tyagaraja’s definition of music; In this kruti Tyagaraja tells us that only such singers who sing with raga, bhava and tala are ideal. He says that only such singers are fortunate. He extols the music with devotion. Who is that stalwart, that great man of courage and conviction, who overwhelms you by singing songs pregnant with sublime thoughts of the Upanishads, with total purity and charming rhythms, to the accompaniment of the Mridanga? Does TyAgarAja have the competence for such an exalted task, employing the rules of prosody, proper intervals, with sublime devotion, and woven around the nine moods of men - the Navarasas - appropriately? O RAma! pallavi sogasugA mrdanga tALamu jatagUrci ninu sokkajEyu dhIruDevvaDO Who (evvaDO) is the wise one (dhIruDu) who enchants you (ninu sokka jEyu)by charmingly (sogasugA) harmonizing (jata kUrchi) the beat (tALamu) and the drum (mRdanga)? anupallavi nigama shirOttama galgina nija vAkkulatO svara shuddhamutO With true (nija) words (vakkulatO) conveying (galgina) the highest meaning (shirOrthamu) of the Upanishads (nigama) in pure notes (swara shuddhamutO)? charanam yati vishrama sadbhakti virati drAkSArasa nva rasayuta krticE bhanjiyincE yukti tyAgarAjuni taramA shrI rAma Is it possible (taramA) for Tyagaraja to worship you (bhajiyinchu) by creating kritis (kRitichE) endowed with (yuta) yati (a pleasing framework), vishrAma (peacefulness), true devotion (sad-bhakti), caesura or pauses in verse(virati), sweetness like grape juice (drAksha rasa) and the nine moods (nava rasa) ? Sree Ranjini Ragam :- A raga having six notes in the ascent as well as the descent (Shadava), with symmetrical tetrachords, is Sriranjani. It is known to please goddess Lakshmi and ushers in prosperity and auspiciousness. The notes present in this raga are Sadja, Chatusruti Rishabha, Sadharana Gandhara, Suddha Madhyama, Chatusruti Dhaivata and Kaisiki Nishada. The Pancama is eschewed in this scale making it more interesting, the beauty of the raga shining forth when the phrase MD, culminates with a little gamaka at the nishada. Sriranjani has several allied ragas including Abhogi and Bagesri. These ragas are different in their own striking way, but to an untrained ear these scales may sound very similar. While in Abhogi the Nishada is eschewed, Bagesri is a different ball-game altogether, the occasional Pancama appearance, the Rishabha occasionally being skipped in ascent, all contributing to a very different flavour, predominantly North Indian. Sriranjani is, however, a typically South Indian raga, as authentic as idli-sambar. The Classical kritis in Sriranjani include ‘Sogasuga’, ‘Marubalka’, ‘Brochevarevare’, ‘Bhuvini Sasudane’, and ‘Sariyevvare’ of Thyagaraja, ‘Sri Ramachandro’ and ‘Ni Sati Deiva’ of Dikshitar, and ‘Ini Oru Kanam’ of Papanasam Sivan. Dikshitar’s compositions are usually in Sanskrit, the aforementioned piece ‘Ni Sati’ being a Telugu piece, a rarity. ‘Kanavendamo’ of Gopalakrishna Bharati is a philosophical piece in this raga. Sriranjani adds pep to any kutcheri and is usually sung at thepoorvangam (first half) of concerts.
@pistachioguy Interesting, suppose all artistes have their fans. I request you to watch his rendition of shri raga pancharatnam on youtube and come back to me on the sahithya quality of his singing. most other aspectsyou have mentioned are subjective and as such i will not comment on them. KVN is a GOD though and i don't think its worthy to compare uncooked modern artists to a true great.
KVN mama was always the best ❤
