Yeah, it was a cringy review. Applying whiskey and bourbon criteria to a molasses based rum is terrible. There is a reason why this is an award winning rum. Perhaps having a dominican rep. style dinner and then a cigar with the exclusiva, would have improved their palates. Cheers!
Rum Raiders! Great format, although I find all of the "umm" pauses distracting. I feel the same about this rum, as well as Zaya and Ron Abuelo- they are tasty but just too sweet. I prefer Appleton 12 which tones down the sweet for other flavors. Awesome job, Keep it up!

How I describe Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva to people: If you like Rum & Coke... (perhaps with a hint of spice but a far cry from being "spiced rum"). Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva neat is like a perfectly mixed, but flat, Rum and Coke without any actual Coke in it. Great after dinner sipper... neat or on the rocks. I do not recommend mixing it, especially not with anything that is sweet, because it is already so sweet that any more can be overwhelming. Definitely one of my favorites that not many know about... I've had the vintage 2002 (less sweet / more complex) and will get the Ambassador soon. But, I don't expect anything to replace Diplomatic RE for the very particular void it fills in the rum market in my opinion.
Have to disagree, yes it is good, I already said so, but as many latin american rums, they abuse in the sugar content. Try Jamaica and Guyana's rum, another level

Wow I didn't realize the sweetness till today I didn't tried in a couple of years now I feel it I used to drink with coconut water and ice but also the taste of the coconut water it's different over there in Venezuela so maybe that's the reason they used to taste really good together.. one of my favorites..
I really love this rum. It's so smooth and easy to drink. I always have it neat. For it's price i think its well worth the money. It's also a very good beginners rum.

I give it a 7/10... I was disappointed with it, plantation xo is wayyyy better. But! This rum for whatever reason makes me sleepy so I shoot it b4 bed lol. But I wont be buying another bottle.

Well... this is one of the most overrated "rums" in the world. Why "rum"? Because it is not a rum. It is a rum based spirit. They add 41 grams of sugar/liter and glycerin to make it smooth. For the "great" taste they even blend it wit a liqueur from Venezuele and some other spices like vanillin. Try Appleton, if you like jamaican, or Barbados rum like Foursquare, Doorly's or RL Seale.

So the amount of sweetness is completely added by the liqueur AND sugar. I mean.. liqueur! That's not Rum FFS. And yes.. many other brands add sugar to their "rum", but that doesn't make it better in any way. That's why I don't buy or drink bad stuff like Bacardi, Zacapa or Angostura, since I know about the Sugar/flavoring shit. Once you tried some real Rum from for example Barbados or Jamaica, you're gonna hate the fakers from the big brands ;)

This is dessert in a bottle. Almost borderline too sweet. I like it a lot though. Very rich and chocolatey. But not something I would drink on the regular. I think the reserva is a bit more balanced less sweet.
The taste of seduction, chocolate vanilla and honey, "DIPLOMATICO RESERVA EXCLUSIVA" (green bottle) is the best rum I've ever tasted in my life, It's not easy to find it, if you see it, buy it and try it, you will not regret it. Very very good

I got my first bottle of this last week. Heaven in a glass, I can't see this lasting very long , but boy is it tasty.
Just a little nitpick: it's DISTILLED in copper pot stills, but it's AGED in oak barrels.

When dealing with any top end rum, shouldn't it always be judged neat? Although I do appreciate the variations of mixed and rocks.
This is not a rum you drink on the rocks, or mixed.....neat is how this is to be enjoyed. Only thing to pair with a rum this good, is a premium cigar.

If you like wintergreen or root beer, you'll like this one. It's in that same direction of flavor, at least to me, and very very smooth.
