The thing you described about “I wish this upcharge was just built into the price” was taught to me in Marketing 101. Best practice for consumer satisfaction is to bundle charges as much as possible because people, like you, generally dislike paying more different costs even if the singular cost actually turns out to be more.

I know that makes sense from a marketing perspective, but I subscribe to scentbird specifically because it’s under $19.99 and like the option that I can choose a scent with an add on price if I really want but then usually pay less monthly and get what I pay for 😅

@@kateyingling-yo6vswhich is fair! I’m definitely not saying this is the case for everyone. But generally speaking, people tend to prefer one charge over a bunch of smaller charges, all else remaining equal.

I really love Olfactif. I recently subscribed to Perfumology, where you also get a curated set of 2.5ml samples each month. Also, not a subscription, but Ministry of Scent frequently puts together themed sample sets that you can purchase. Themes vary, but recently I purchased Best of Summer, and Best of Fig sample sets. I do most of my niche shopping through them

I have been getting scentbox since February, I believe. I get the two travel sprays a month, and will flip between premium and platinum subs depending on what I want to get. I went with them because I do not like the atomizers that scentbird uses now. I absolutely love it because a) each scent comes in an atomizer each month, b) if you get one you do not like, you can exchange one per month. You return the one you do not like for free, and they will send you the next one in your line up. C) I’ve only recently (this year), been able to begin wearing perfumes without getting migraines, and scentbox has been a great way to try out perfumes.
I have been looking for different sub services that offer different fragrances that I can’t get from scentbox so I’m very thankful for this video!! I know it’s a year old, but you mentioned ones I hadn’t heard or found myself! I did find a new one the other day that you didn’t mention - micro perfumes. Same sizes, roughly same prices, but a ton of different scents that I haven’t seen elsewhere. If I remember correctly, it’s not exactly a sub service, but one that allows you to buy travel sprays or decants whenever and have deals like buy two get one free. I have slept since I looked at it so I may be a bit fuzzy on the details. Lol

Hi Lauren! Okay, so I admit - I wasn't into perfumes too much. Then I watched your Scent Sundays and was instantly captivated by how you described fragrances. As an English major, I was so enamored lol. Also I'd love, if you could/had the desire, to see a review on dupes for big perfumes. I know you had a crazy experience with Dossier, texting you and being generally annoying. But I'm curious if places like Alt and Oakcha are decent places to buy dupes? I bought Mojave Ghost on your rec (due to the Ouai Leave-In), and I fell IN LOVE. However, I'm out now and can't bring myself to buy ANOTHER big bottle of the perfume. Thanks. I’m not sure if they have the fragrance you desire and I know I’m a few months late lol but I’ve been buying from Alt. Fragrances for a while now and I know for a fact their dupes are very close to the real thing. The most recent of my purchases were the Alt Executive and the Bohemian Waters (Creed Aventus and Gypsy waters). These are the only two that I do have both of the originals and I compared the scents. The Creed was insanely close to the original and smelled amazing while the Gypsy waters smelled quite literally the exact same and I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase

Really? I also just signed up for scentbird and lovvveee it, after having a terrible experience purchasing a sampler set from Sephora… that samples were so, so small and didn’t have a spray top/atomizer and my first scentbird purchase came today and the sample is huge comparatively, and because it’s not a dab on I can actually smell it. The dab one from Sephora I can’t smell at all, even after pouring it on my wrist to cover a few inches it just doesn’t smell to me at all. I was so surprised, and you get a coupon for a full-size bottle with the samples from Sephora but I feel like I have to go in store and try the spray bottles in order to even choose one!

I have a scentbox subscription and I really like it, they have the most selectioin out of all of the current ones I believe with over 1000 perfumes. They have 3 sub types which is basic, premium (which I do) and platinum. The fact scentbird costs $30 for daisy love is a rip off when I can get it with Scentbox for $21. They recently implemented that platinum tier and its min $30 a month but its for the baccarat and roja perfumes and at least you know up front when you will be getting charged. I recommend it! Just to add - with Scentbox if you don't like the scent you got for that month you can return it which you can't do with Scentbird or others I think.

Thanks for the info. Have you ever actually returned a fragrance to them, and if so, was the refund the actual amount you originally paid, or did they subtract shipping (or some other fee)? Again, thanks so much for the info. I love trying out new perfumes, however I'm blind and it's very difficult for me to try something out via a department store or some type of brick & mortar store as no one I know actually likes to experiment with new fragrances. Had terrible experiences with Scentbird years ago. Maybe they're better now, but they've lost my trust & my money forever. When they moved warehouses, they got MONTHS behind on their orders, and did not update subscribers via email, nor did they have any info on their site about it. You had to email customer service, and, obviously, given the issues, it took over a week to hear back every time. I randomly got a refund for one of the months of the subscription with NO explanation (so like, I had no idea what month it was for or if I'd be getting the item I was supposed to be getting; did I need to change my queue, etc), and when my last order (after I had canceled the subscription) arrived months late, it was the WRONG stuff. I emailed customer service so many times, I gave them so many chances, but everything they could do wrong, they did. No, ma'am. No more. Not worth my money and my time.

I've subscribed to both Scentbird and Skylar in the past. I don't do either subscription anymore but I have been geting a lot of one off purchases from Scentbird recently. I think they're like $21 to buy something outside of the subscription. I just like it because I know it will be a spray and I can use it in the protective little cases as opposed to a travel sized I might get from Sephora or Ulta. For example, I love Coconut Grove from Skylar but hate that roller ball. Scentbird carries it now so I ordered one from there. When it gets low I will just decant the roller ball into it as well. So that's kind of how I use Scentbird these days. Olfactif sounds super interesting.

Wondering if anyone knows of perfume boxes that are available in the EU? Would like to try out a bunch of new one fragrances before buying full sizes. PS not sure if all rollerballs work like this but I got one where its possible to not roll it on but place it on my wrist and push so the perfume comes out. I really hope my poor explanation makes sense

  • @Tashi-tect

I have thoughts lol. I have been trying royalty scents and really like it. The up charge thing is really off putting so the flat fee is a ++. The queue is easy to manage, you just drag them around so not sure if that changed recently or what. I like that there are a lot of niche perfumes my favorite influencers are recommending that I feel 8 mil is a good blind buy. I’m trying to expand my nose and a 8 mil gives me some time to adjust to the scent as I have noticed my opinion changes over time. They have some good ones I want to try and am quite pleased and having fun 🎉

Many perfume services don't ship outside of the US which severely limits the options. Skylar ships to Canada. I tried their scent club but I don't really like rollerballs and for some reason I found their fragrances too intense and they were giving me headaches. After years of waiting Scentbird now ships to Canada. So far I have gotten 2 perfumes from them - Confessions of a Rebel's Bite Me and Sanctuary's Red Panda. I love both of them. I also grabbed a set of cases in a recent sale so I'm covered there for a while.

I was wondering if Lauren had tried this too. I’ve been subscribed for about 8 months. I really like it. It’s $15.95/month and each month they send a new cartridge. Really my only complaint is that the printing on the label wears off if it’s in my purse. I am mostly into classic houses like Guerlain and Hermes.

I bought the Gwendolyn Paltrow This Candle Smells Like My Vagina candle through Heretic a couple months back-side note: would not recommend; a very underwhelming and even disappointing candle, branding aside-and they sent me one of their perfume samples in the package and I actually like,,, okay it makes me smell like a wet tree, kind of, but I kind of like it in a weird way and I am really interested in some of their other perfumes but also very afraid because I also don’t know if I actually do like it. I’m afraid of it. I’m afraid of them. I’m going to go see if anyone sells any sampler sets from them right now.

They sent me the wrong sample the first month and I could not get a reply from anyone in the chat or in e-mail to fix the situation. I also canceled right away after the extra month they make you stay on. I still haven't even received my second sample which was marked ready back on the 5th. Just, what a mess with LUXsb!
