How 苏炳添 Su Bing Tian Trains to Run Faster

  • I have looked behind all the scenes, into every corner, and have emerged out of it a deep admirer for the systematic training that Su Bing Tian has gone through. His training is directed by Chinese Athletics Head Coach, Randy Huntington, in Beijing China. Their training uses all sorts of tools to overcome any barrier in developing running speed. It includes: 1080sprint computer, pneumatic resistance, wearable resistance, upper body lifts, standard barbell lifts, activator belts. Everything used is to get this athlete to run faster than 9.91 in the 100m! More special to me is that this athlete has exposed the intolerability of the unchallenged notion that short, and Asian athletes, can't run fast. This self-limiting and damaging ethos is now revised, by a merger of coaching brilliance (Randy and SBT's previous and current support staff) as well as the athlete's performance on the big stage. Enjoy this training montage for the fastest Asian sprinter.
*I included a Keiser Bulgarian Squat from one of the emerging sprinters 梁劲生 as I thought it was a Keiser exercise that inserted well into this montage of training.

✅ READ TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SU's TRAINING:
This is to elaborate on the training clips presented in the collage; I've been told it's important to not just see Su's 'what' but also hear the 'why'
    - Randy started working with Su in winter 2016. In Randy's podcast with Joel Smith, he shared that though at that point he had already run 9.99s, he was doing some things wrong. Things they set on improving were: arm action, top speed mechanics, power (especially around the plantar flexors), getting custom spikes, learning how to relax at speed.
    - Randy's training is truly cutting edge. He describes himself as having a penchant to using tools. Most of the machines you see in this video are Keiser brand, made in Fresno CA. They load using pneumatic resistance (air pressure) rather than mass-based resistance. Pneumatics are isotonic, meaning that it will provide the same resistance regardless of the velocity you accelerate it to. A lot of the sprints here are done with the 1080sprint providing resistance and assistance. With this sprint computer, you can see a lot of kinematic variables which are used to guide the technical development. He also uses the LILA exogen suit which allows limb resistance to develop better limb repositioning while he is in the flight phase. On top of all these training elements, Omegawave (measuring brainwaves), massage, aqua therapy are used to make sure his training readiness is always high. Randy has been doing this since 1983!-in a sense there is nothing spectacular about how Su trains except that it is deliberate and purposeful training.
    - The results of this targeted training plan improved his absolute performance to 9.91s. Though it might not seem like a big change, this planned training made him run consistently fast, win a 2018 WIC 60m Bronze medal, and finally covet his first international medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

@@jcccheung The title is “How Su Bing Tian Trains to run faster”. Yet, nothing in this video explains how he trains or his training philosophy either. I saw some very specific answers to very specific questions. I don't doubt that most of what he is doing is helping him “run faster”. My worry is that kids will see this type of specific training and attempt to imitate it in combination with their current training. My comment is only meant to provoke friendly banter between Track minds. I'll offer a branch and make a suggestion for a better title (suggestion emphasised). “Insight into Su Bing Tian’s training with Coach Randy Hintington” I think that helps facilitate a younger athletes journey into learning how to sprint a little better.

I'll take your suggestion by adding a more informative writeup into the description.
