Very insightful! Tertullian is definitely one of the least talked about from early Christian history.

Tertullian was one of my favorite early Church father. It is a shame that he went on to join the Montanists. He Died separated from the Church that he so passionately defended in his younger days.
“The Lord said to Peter, “On this rock I will build my Church, I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatever you shall bound or loosed on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven” [Mt 16 18-19]….What kind of man are you, subverting and changing what was the clear intent of the Lord when he himself conferred this upon Peter? Upon you, he says, I will build my Church; and I will give you the keys.”
    - Tertullian, Modesty 21, 220 AD
“Where was Marcion then, that shipmaster of Pontus, the zealous student of Stoicism? Where was Valentinus then, the disciple of Platonism? For it is evident that those men lived not so long ago - in the reign of Antoninus for the most part - and that they at first were believers in the doctrine of the Catholic Church, in the church of Rome under the episcopate of the blessed Eleutherus, until on account of their ever restless curiosity, with which they even infected the brethren, they were more than once expelled.”
    - Tertullian, The Prescription Against Heretics 22,30 [A.D.200])

How come biblical and Christian scholars never talk about the pagan worship elements of Rome being integrated into christianity? They seem to make everything seems like it was all one accord, then we read the work for ourselves and we can see how men made and formulated christianity.

how would he explain the taking of trinity from valentinus as orthodox, when 50+ years prior this idea was written about as heresy by irenaeus

Wow!! This guy is rare on so many levels. He left his position within a homogeneous white space to submit under black leadership.
