The tone of the lead guitar is just fantastic. You can hear so much subtlety and character in every note.
Agreed. Aptly described.
It's hard to say what the overall tone of this piece of instrumental music is...happy/upbeat or sad/melancholy. It really could fit well with both themes and just depends on the listener. I'd say that's one way of explaining why this is a unique and original composition. It's not easy writing music that represents both sides of the spectrum with respect to emotive range, or at least not easy to write something like that and make it still hard-hitting and perfectly cohesive like this track is.
tl;dr: Respect to Opeth for conjuring up another genius track that will, for me anyways, be timeless.

Martin is awesome and the few times I've seen them live I was very happy to see him get a lot of love from the crowd. He never showboats but creates some really fantastic basslines that add a lot to the already genius music
