I think it better to chk for 2nf first...then 3nf n then bcnf... First check if there any fd which is partial dependency..nd no need to check further.. nd if there is no partial dependency...then chk for transitive...( If u find even a single dependency which is transivite ( using ur logic) ..then no need to check further....) Just a suggestion to save time

My Question to You and the Community is: Can we say for Example 1, that the second Dependency is not in third Normalform because A is not A Candidate Key ? I guess DE as Non-Prime Attributes have to rely on a CK and not a part of Prime-Attributes (as here in A). Right ?
Yes absolutely right the dependency "A --> DE" is a partial dependency as "A" is a part of the candidate key and not the whole candidate key. Therefore it is not in 2NF, hence it can't be in 3NF.

hello sir how to solve this question.. A-->BCD BC-->DE B-->D D-->A Compute a canonical cover for the above set of functional dependencies F; give each step of your derivation with an explanation. Give a 3NF decomposition of r based on the canonical cover. Give BCNF decomposition of original functional dependencies. can you get bcnf deconposition using canonical cover.

Candidate key is a minimal form of super key as sir has explained. So, at first we are finding out the minimal version of super key , i.e. candidate key, or any super key? Also, the Prime attribute that we need to check for 3NF...is the Prime attribute a part of a super key or necessarily a part of a Candidate key?

Sir, in the 3rd example I am feeling doubt as you are saying "DC" are a non-prime attributes but "BDC" is a candidate key in itself at you said 17:04 "DC" is not a part of candidate key!, sir please help
AB is the candidate key and now if we check 1) It's not in BCNF because AC is not a super key 2) it's not in 3NF because first three fd no problem but last one AC here it's not a candidate key or a super key. So check RHS is that a prime attribute? (part of candidate key!?) Nooo D isn't. Therefore it's not in 3NF 3) and also AC->D D depends on A. Therfore Partial dependency therefore not even in 2NF Answer 1NF
@@warunparker4061 till the 2nd point that is all right. But in the 3 rd one As AB is the candidate key so in case of 2 NF in left hand side there must be a proper subset of candidate key. As AC is not a proper sub set of AB thats why it will be of 2 NF. So the highest possible Normal Form will be 2 NF.
In the bottom-up approach, since, we have checked for BCNF before, and we found out that alpha is not a key, we then went on to check 3NF, so instead of checking if alpha is a key (which we already figured that it's not), we can directly prove beta to be a prime attribute, right? That would save time.
sir, i watched all your dbms videos from part 01 to part 16. your each and every video is quite simple and easy to understand. but in this video i have a small confusion in 3nf explanation. sir, is video se pehle ki jitni bhi videos hai usme aapne ye bataya hai ki koi table 3nf mein tab hi hogi jab wo 2nf ki sari condition ko satisfy kar rahi hogi aur usme transitive dependency (when a non prime attribute depend upon another non prime attribute) nahi hogi aur agar transitive dependency hogi to wo table 3nf mein nahi hogi. lekin sir is video mein jab aap first question ke A->DE mein 3nf check kr rhe hai tab A->DE mein transitive dependency to hai hi nahi kyunki DE bhale hi non prime attribute hai par A to prime attribute hai jiska matlab hua DE (non prime attribute) depend upon A (prime attribute). to sir mera question ye hai ki A->DE ko kis wajah se 3nf mein nahi rakha gaya hai ?
A --> DE ko 3NF me isliye nahi rakha qki woh toh 2NF me bhi nahi hai. 2NF ki condition hoti hai ki har NON-PRIME complete candidate key pe depend kare uske kisi part pe nahi, par yahan pe "DE" sirf "A" pe dependent hai, jabki 2NF me hone ke liye usse complete candidate key "AB" par dependent hona chahiye tha. Isliye hum isko 3NF me nahi rakh sakte.

Topic is difficult but its easy only due to best teaching.
i would say these topics can be a little tricky to get and also students arent usually very interested in these because they seem boring

sir, i watched all your dbms videos from part 01 to part 16. your each and every video is quite simple and easy to understand. but in this video i have a small confusion in 3nf explanation. sir, is video se pehle ki jitni bhi videos hai usme aapne ye bataya hai ki koi table 3nf mein tab hi hogi jab wo 2nf ki sari condition ko satisfy kar rahi hogi aur usme transitive dependency (when a non prime attribute depend upon another non prime attribute) nahi hogi aur agar transitive dependency hogi to wo table 3nf mein nahi hogi. lekin sir is video mein jab aap first question ke A->DE mein 3nf check kr rhe hai tab A->DE mein transitive dependency to hai hi nahi kyunki DE bhale hi non prime attribute hai par A to prime attribute hai jiska matlab hua DE (non prime attribute) depend upon A (prime attribute). to sir mera question ye hai ki A->DE ko kis wajah se 3nf mein nahi rakha gaya hai ?
A --> DE ko 3NF me isliye nahi rakha qki woh toh 2NF me bhi nahi hai. 2NF ki condition hoti hai ki har NON-PRIME complete candidate key pe depend kare uske kisi part pe nahi, par yahan pe "DE" sirf "A" pe dependent hai, jabki 2NF me hone ke liye usse complete candidate key "AB" par dependent hona chahiye tha. Isliye hum isko 3NF me nahi rakh sakte.
