    I have taken a trek fx 2022 on steep gravel trails. I just managed to put 40 mm tubeless tyres on it.
    It has worked on these difficult trails. At times I would like wider tyres but basically it has worked for me. Tubless tyres are crucial for tricky gravel. Its also a superb commuter

    10 minutes to say not much and no tour. Anyway, for those that are interested, the FX Sports are basically flat bar gravel bikes, and thus handle a greater variety of situations better than their drop bar equivalents. If your thing is lycra and racing, go for the drops, the discomfort, and the shitty handling around town and on trails. If you're looking for adventure or putting in the miles, the FX Sports, and their ilk, are the way to go.

    First off im enjoying these head to head comparisons, so thank you. secondly, you keep saying the FX Sport 6 has XT, sorry but it doesnt! It is identical to the 5, except the Aeolus Carbon Wheelset... i wish they had an XT, because it would mean a microspline rear hub and 12 speed upgadeable... but they dont.

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct; the 2023 FX is now in a GRX group set. However, the 2022 FX Sport 6 did come in an XT version. It's the main reason I almost bought that over my recent 2023 Checkpoint. Trek switched to the DRX group because it's their "gravel" group. That is our fault that we weren't more specific about the year model.
      Thank you for your feedback and for watching again. Both are very much appreciated. And you are correct; XT with microspline is awesome. That's why I have it on my Timberjack. 😉

    I love the new Driftless! For multisurface "Gravel", it may all be in the tire. Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H for dry conditions. By far faster rolling on roadways, packed grit (San Francisco grit walking paths), packed dirt hills fireroads and river trails, compared to Bontrager GR1. Ride 2022 FX Sport 5 and 2022 Checkpoint SL7 (700x45mm Pirelli mounted yesterday for Fairfax, California Beerfest ride this morning.) BUT....Domane with 700x40mm Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H may be the Cadillac of fast rolling ultimate comfort and stability for most surfaces. (Broken overgrown old roadways, low grass/weed hills, packed dirt with loose rock, medium round gravel, expanded metal bridges, railroad tracks).

      My beautiful red 2022 FX Sport 5 was brought up to spec with short lever 2 or 3 finger Shimano MT201 for excellent braking and control. Waiting on stiffer seat under warranty since supply chain substituted soft seat not very comfortable riding after 8 miles or so.

    • @CB-ld8no
      @CB-ld8no ปีที่แล้ว

      2022 FX Sport 4 5 came with 700x40mm Bontrager GR1 Expert. Waiting on Bontrager tubeless rim strip to experiment with tubeless GR1 Team from Checkpoint on rear wheel of FX Sport 5.

    • @JohnC686
      @JohnC686 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 6 is GRX as well. They seem to be shipping with horrible no name seat (like in the video) and promax brakes contrary to what the specs should be. I have had no issues with the GRX or the promax brakes. But the seat is horrible and the price should reflect the down grade.

    Hybrids translate well to gravel. The geometry is close and they have good tire clearance. I did a conversion on an old FX 7.4 with drop bars and MicroSHIFT Advent. It’s not bad. I also built up a Cannondale H400 (c. 1994) into a flat bar gravel bike with Shimano Zee 1x10. It’s great. With 36mm Gravel Kings, it’ll do about anything.
    Of course my ACTUAL gravel bikes are fun. But the DS4 I bought 5 or 6 years ago is being given away once I get all the upgraded parts off it.

    Hi Guys Thanks voor this video. Will the Bontrager Aeolus Elite 35 TLR Disc racewiel fit the FX5 2023? I ilke to carbon my wheels like the FX6. Thank you.

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  ปีที่แล้ว

      It will work but with 5mm end caps installed.
      But I only see them available for the front hub conversion, not the back.
      Odd… I would definitely consult your local shop, though.
      Thank you for watching, my friend, and asking your question. Let us know how it works out for you.

    The FX3 seems a different bike to FX5. The FX3 is more road and FX5 more gravel. The DS3 is similar to the FX5 and half the cost so it does have its place in the lineup. I tried the FX3 and DS3 and wanted the DS3 but ended up getting the FX3 as it was $300 cheaper. I would have loved the FX5 but it was twice what I had to pay for the FX3.
    Do you think i could hit some simple gravel trails with the FX3 with the 32 tyres???

    Thanks for the detailed video. I am debating between the Sport version FX4 and FX6. Would you say the price point of the FX6 is worth it or is the FX4 comparable enough? I don’t love the colors of the FX5.

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The FX6 is stacked for sure, and if budget permits, that is the one I would choose. The XT group and carbon rims make it worth the price. I almost bought the FX5, but as you stated, I didn't love the colors. 😉
      Thanks for taking the time to watch and ask your question, my friend. Both are appreciated. Let us know which one you decide to go with.

    I suspect that most gravel bikes are ridden 95% on tarmac. This being said, drop bars would be best. On anything less technical than a good dirt road, I would prefer the flat bars.

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also believe your geographical location plays a part on the surface you chose to ride. I live very close to several trail systems so I ride my Checkpoint almost exclusively on the trail. That being said, I do enjoy my flat bar gavel bike as well. Thanks for taking the the time to watch and comment my friend. Both are appreciated.

    I've always had a mountain bike. Got the alr5 this year and HATE it drop bars make me feel like I'm going over the bars. I wish the dealer showed the fx6.

      Yikes, I'm sorry to hear about your experience David but I do appreciate you leaving your feedback. I know the drop bar experience isn't for everyone, especially on the rougher trail/gravel routes.

    Any disadvantages with the press fit bottom bracket? (On FX Sport)
    FX Sport has lower /narrower gear ratios to be considered a "full" flat bar gravel bike, no? Alternatively swapping drop bar with flat bars, change of shifters is more expensive.
    Will the 12 speed GRX change the game for FX Sport?
    Please comment on cable management on FX Sport.

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These are great questions. Thank you for asking them and taking the time to watch.
      Harder to do the maintenance yourself. I do enjoy the square taper.
      Yeah, I wouldn't change the shifters or the not on that bike anyway. To be honest with you, with the time and money you would spend on that, you might as well get the FX6 with the full XT group.
      The cable management is lackluster at best.

    I turned off your video once you said you hated duel sports & think there is no longer a reason to make them. I could easily write a paragraph or 2 on why for a subset of the population they are the perfect bike. But if you already as bike shop owners aren't aware/ don't care about the subset of the population that these are great bikes for, I"m not wasting time w/ the paragraph or 2.
    BTW I have both 2022 duel sport & 2018 Trek 7.3 fx

    • @GetOutArizona
      @GetOutArizona  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Heidi, I appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback, as we consider all feedback and take it to heart. I had to rewatch the video before responding, as it had been some time since we made it.
      My statement of not seeing the need for Trek to continue the Dual Sport line was made in a similar vein to their discontinuing the 520, which is a classic, and I was sad to see it go. It is the evolution of the industry and the bikes themselves. With the advancements and redesign of the FX series, the overlap between the two is far too great to justify the Duel Sport line. That is not to say that Dual Sport did not have its place for Trek customers for the last several years. I know several riders who love their Dual Sport bikes and still ride them on a regular basis in a multitude of scenarios.
      That being said, as far as fitness hybrid bikes go, we will more than likely see the Dual Sport line phased out and the FX series become more refined to suit multiple purposes for multiple riders, including the subset of current Dual Sport owners. In regards to Brandon’s disdain for the Dual Sport, it is because of the above-mentioned reasons. Sometimes he isn’t as eloquent as he should be in explaining these things.
      I do thank you for taking the time to watch, and again, leave your feedback. Over the past two years, viewer feedback has helped shape the channel and grow. I know your time is valuable, and the time you took to craft your response shows. I hope that in the future, you may take the time to watch one of our videos again. Have a great day Heidi and adventure safely.

      I think youtube ate my comment. When I logged off and came back it's gone. So if you get this also. Sorry about that.
      But if youtube did actually eat my comment I don't feel retyping it But thanks for taking the time to lay why you feel that way. It was interesting to reason behind that opinion. Even if I do think it's still some what off base for a group of comsumers out there. Plus you've twice given me something to think about.

I often remind people that we enjoy ALL feedback, especially those who disagree with us, as long as it's respectful and yours was. This is how a good conversation starts. Well, it should be, anyway. Hey gogo, thanks for watching as well as leaving your feedback. While a through axle boosted set would have been ideal, for most riders, a QR will not be a deal breaker. Though, I have to question why they didn’t offer the through axle in the 5&6.
