*breathes in* Ahhhh... I never tire of hearing that "BANISHED FROM EARTH, CLASSIC GAME ROOM BROADCASTS..." intro. It doesn't need to be retooled, reworked, or redone. It's pitch perfect as it already is and always puts me in the mood for CGR!
This game has great multi-plane (parallax) scrolling backgrounds. Something the Turbografx was not known for doing as well as Genesis or SNES. Somehow they pulled it off well here.
The PC Engine support only one background layer but, same as the NES or Master System, this doesn't mean that it can't do parallax, just that it has less possibilities than systems with two or more layers support such as the Genesis or SNES.
ABOUT TIME. What the hell took you so long to get to this game? It's AMAZING. One of the best games on the TG16/PC-Engine. The short length is balanced out by the fact that its multiple difficulty settings and arcade nature (beating your score, or not sucking as much the next time you play it). And the virtual console version works great! Unless you have a flash card, there is no reason to fork over your life settings to play the TG16/PC-Engine version instead.
If you want to know the real story of this game, just watch the translated Japanese intro to the game. Yes, it really is just Bonk turned into a Cyborg. lol
So what? Hardly anybody has a film projector, but you don't see people insisting on only watching movies on film rolls. This and dozens other great TG16 games are available extremely cheap on newer, more reliable consoles that millions more people have access to. Get over it.
raydenlord Get over what that emulation is a fantastic alternative over the original hardware, as ultimately the experience is what matters more. Also you were aware that Mark in this video was referring to the amazingly "cheap" original, which your argument for newer hardware will fall upon deaf ears on most retro channels just since anything that isn't the original isn't the real deal.
I'm getting mixed signals from your reply. Just to be clear, I'm absolutely pro-emulation and digital versions of old console games on new systems. There's just about zero reason to track down and pay for a real TG16, all the accessories it requires, and its expensive cards and CDs these days when you can play it all for a fraction of the cost of a single Hu-card. That system hasn't aged well, anyway. Physically, I mean. There are horror stories all over the Internet of leaking capacitors in the Turbo Duo and the portable version. They just aren't worth the hassle.
raydenlord Yes, my answer is mixed because while to me the Pc-Engine's library doesn't do too much for me, it does it for other folks who have likely heard the emulation argument, and will never change stance on it being inferior who are willing to change the capacitors for them, mod them for rgb to then get a framemeisfer just so that it looks nice on a HDTV.

Air Zonk is one of my favorite TG16 games
Easy call since most other TG16 games are CRAP.
I bought this game in a lot about 8 years ago. Can't believe how much the price on it has sky rocketed. That's just crazy.
