First of all, I found myself cringing when your fingers were downrange of that cocked string, while loading the bolt and even when cocking. If that sketchy mechanism failed as you were letting go of the string your fingers would be seriously injured, at best. I had a cheap crossbow when I was a kid and had a lot of fun with it but realize now how much I and anyone nearby was at risk when we were shooting it. The alloy bow finally broke right in the middle while I was cocking it and both pieces whipped back on the string and put two serious gashes in my head, narrowly missing one of my eyes. If you really want a crossbow, get one with a cocking mechanism that keeps your hands in the clear and that can be de-cocked safely. One that you would feel comfortable letting Jack use. I'm 72 years old and still remember the shock of having that broken bow whack me in the head. Jess
It is legal to own in the UK. However, you cannot hunt with it. (Hunting by bow or crossbow was banned in 1950's). You cannot have it loaded in a public place. If you use one to defend your family expect to be arrested as minimum and probably face anything from Possession of an offensive weapon to GBH to Murder Charges. The state does NOT like people who use weapons even in self defence.

The best targets for these are high density foam, old phone books and bales of newspaper. Old tires work well, too and don't wear out as fast. The funnest target I've experienced has to be an old car door with scraps of carpeting and rags stuffed in behind the interior panel. If you are unfortunate enough to hit a void, your flights will probably get stripped off, but there is a very satisfying tin-like thump with every impact.
Let me show you its features!! Ah ah. But seriously at 4:50 you had the bow cooked and your hand was in the danger zone. Regardless of whether you're in front of the bolt, that string is damaging if it were to catch your hand. Just keep it out of the triangle when cooked and inserting the bolt. Love your vids.
Awesome video. Very helpful. Was wondering on that crossbow myself. I do have a shoulder injury and I'm wondering if there is a crank like item for pulling the string back. Any suggestions?
Don't forget its little brother, the Stinger... I own both, and the stinger packs a decent punch when you use the bow upgrade... also, being a pistol crossbow with magazine, its perfect for home defence, especially in European countries, as most tend to make firearms excessively hard to get...

Thank you so much for the great review! I have always been interested in crossbows but now I am going to do a little research on the good ones and take the plunge. I like the silent aspect and can see many uses where you might want silence with a backup firearm just in case. I built a compound bow years ago and with practice was pretty good.
I have always kept a stringed weapon around as a back up. Quiet, and effective. Glad you found a fondness for the crossbow. You are going to be shocked when you start shooting a high quality bow at over 400 FPS. They are amazing, fun and dangerous. Thanks as always for another enjoyable video!
They have this quality of crossbow on the BudK webpage. Also, many Pawn Shops have these very cheap and a lot have been tricked out for hunting and may even have a quiver with a few Bolts. You have to buy a target from a sporting goods store that's rated for powerful crossbows like Academy Sports, Dick's, Bass Pro, Cabela's. For a small fee, many sporting goods stores will string your crossbow.
Now that you've shot those bolts through plywood and steel toss them, that kind of force likely causes fractures in the carbon fiber and can explode in your face when you hit the trigger. It's happened to many people with compound bows and crossbows. Use bag or block targets rated for crossbows unless you don't care about losing parts of your face and pulling shrapnel out of your chest and arms.
Great video Mr Wranglerstar! I am hoping for a part 2 if you decide you have the ability to make improvements to this crossbow for the things you didn't like about it, to fix it.
Hey @Wranglestar, I also love high-power crossbows! Just make sure to be very careful putting your hand in and around the void between the cocked string and the end of the crossbow. That area is where most injuries occur (think fingers getting hit by all that string pressure). Surely is a powerful and useful tool, cheers!
I bought a tiny little pistol crossbow for...like...20 bucks at a flea market many moons ago. It only fired one time, but that one time? Ho-lee...the bolt went through the can I was shooting at, through a 2x4 behind it and a few inches into the dirt behind that. Even when they're kinda junk and look like a toy, these things can be CRAZY powerful...
Wow! I got to get me one of those. You might be interested to watch Tod's Workshop, he makes and tests old style weapons and used a crossbow to simulate a longbow with a draw weight that would have been common in days past, not many now that can use a longbow of that type because of the strength and technique required.

Just say you were on your way to the tennis court, when some guy attacked you and you feared for your life. Even the UK can’t argue about that, can they? Alas, I suppose they can.
Excellent take. I used to do competition archery with a 45 pound bow. For under $100 you can buy something that shoots like an air rifle, has 150 pounds draw, is more accurate than a bow, and delivers the kinetic force of a musket. These are excellent tools, excellent for target shooting, and if you are in America, excellent for hunting.
I bought the same one in 2016 and I knew the moment you said 1/2" plywood that it was going through it to the vanes. Those things are crazy powerful and crazy dangerous. Two things you should get for it: a cocking string and bow string wax.

Plus if you think how much better that could be if you’re in a survival situation and having to shoot food if you can get the scope on it and the scope cited in well! Great video
Hey there mate, I have a bit of experience with crossbows... I would suggest getting yourself a compound crossbow, one with a string puller to make it easier to reload.
Unfortunately, to not get put in prison in UK and class as "self defence" is that you will need to have a weapon weaker than the attacker (and use it in a disarm/defensive manner) . Ie if they bring a gun, you can bring a knife. If they bring a knife, you bring a pen....... You will also get sued or put into prison for entrapment or simply have broken paving if an attacker decide to trip over them and injure themselves because you didn't put warning signs up, it also has to be illuminated if the attacker decides to come at night.
i got one of these like that exact model 150 pound crossbow and those bolts can really go far my friend shot mine at the wood pile one year and just hit the edge of a log and the bolt vanished we couldn't find it anywhere. about 3 or 4 years latter in a field in the opposite direction of where he was aiming i found the bolt while walking my dog and it was a complete half circle and almost half a mile away from the wood pile again in the opposite direction from where he had aimed. also from that i can say the cheap plastic fletching on those hold up surprisingly well to a desert sun
Crossbows are great to shoot. I have a 'cheapo' ,$300, that is a lot of fun. I would definitely hunt with it, or use it for a defensive weapon as a last resort. Only thing is, those are not bolts... they are arrows. The difference between the two is that bolts do not have fletching. If it has fletching it is an arrow, regardless of length or type of nock. We're gonna need a hunting video...
A word of caution. It's easy to get close to a tree/doorway/widow and when you shoot the limbs expand out smack the tree and if it doesn't break the bow it will knock the thing right out of your hands and smack you silly.
I actually found one of these at a yard sale for $8.00. I'm going to take it hunting next year because crossbow has recently become legal for anyone to hunt with in my state, we'll see how it does. From this video it seems like it will be plenty powerful enough.
Adding to your comment about getting these as alternatives to firearms. Go check out “The Slingshot Channel” on here for some ideas on some full-auto modifications.
This looks like a recreation of the barnett ranger. Good choice on skipping the scope. I had a scope on the original crossbow that this looks based off of. Snapped off after a while. Super cool, I have had a hard time finding parts for my old unit, but this looks like it can be a decent play around with replacement.
Be sure you check local hunting restrictions! Here in Wisconsin the crossbow must have a Minimum draw weight of 100 pounds, must have a working safety, and must use at least 14" long bolts with a broadhead (no field tips).
These are copies of the Barnett Wildcat II crossbow from the 80's. I have the wood stocked version of this (it was $79 at the time a couple years ago) and my daughter has killed two deer with it. It has plenty of power out to 30 yards or so. The sights are junk, I put a TruGlo red dot sight on it and it puts the bolt right where you aim.
I bought a nice one a few years back. They make special targets for them that can stop the bolts. I even have a small crossbow pistol that throws short little plastic bolts that will put them through 1/2 in plywood.
I owned one of these. You could get them for $59 back then. They are not bad, except for the trigger. I modified mine by adding a custom trigger, which made it fairly accurate. Ended up giving it to a friend.
I know this video is old but I have a old 70s full wood Barnett wildcat mk1 made in England by B&p Barnett that I inherited from my great great grandfather, 150lb limb this Amazon brand looks like a type of clone of it and I’m sure several parts would swap over including trigger assembly/ iron sites/ limb from the looks of it which would really help keep my old bow going. Recently been getting it ready to start hunting with it and plan on passing it off to my daughter. I hear it’s good enough for deer and we shall find out😂 love all your videos
Need to get your hands on a serious crossbow like a raven. They will do a 3 shot sub moa group at 100 yards. Also the draw weight can be deceptive on bows because the other half is in the draw length and other smaller details.

I just came into possession of one of these. And i can tell you... Its no joke. I just put an arrow through the drum of my wheel barrow and still havent found the arrow.. thats how far it went AFTER penetration
You dhould totally collaborate with Joerg Sprave! He could show his arsenal of borderline war crime rated crossbows and bows!
Jess
The new composite compound models are much better than wood, aluminum, or fiberglass. They are a bit pricey, though, but 400 fps plus velocities.
I would love to see some more crossbow content in the future, this video totally changed my mind abt them
It is legal to own in the UK.
We have a crossbow and it is my favorite, even more than my compound bow. I always say if someone comes to attack us I'm getting the crossbow out lol. I don't have a gun but we have four bows. It's not as good as a gun but if i point it in someone's face they're going to be scared. Also, be careful how you load it. that string is no joke.
Better than a gun. Silent and deadly. No fire round sound.

Im not religiuos..in a way that yall are, rather pagan, i kept my roots from Balts and european lands, but can i just tell how much i appreciate and love this channel. It is a relief to the soul to see a homested thats so like minded, just with different beliefs. I congratulate you, sir, on your successes in life and within your family, i hope God, sun and earth will keep you fullfilled🙂
@John Sergertsonsir, all i meant is that two can agree whilst belonging to different causes. If you want to pick a bone with me, i suggest taking a short breath, heading outside and reevaluating your life. Cheers, sir.
A link to the cross bow would of been nice can't find this product anywhere on Amazon.
@Beastbread thank you for that information have a amazing rest of your night unless your over seas lol
Hi...sorry to disturb.I am from Malaysia and I can't find the crossbow in Amazon.
Can you kindly provide me with the link pls
Thanks and God bless
Take a look at JoergSprave automatic reloading crossbow. The crossbow is called the Adder. He is a TH-camr who sells them.
Don't forget its little brother, the Stinger...
I own both, and the stinger packs a decent punch when you use the bow upgrade... also, being a pistol crossbow with magazine, its perfect for home defence, especially in European countries, as most tend to make firearms excessively hard to get...
that thing is a beast, but in my country it cost north of 400€ ...
@@ApocGuy damn, sorry to hear that
@@ApocGuy try finding it second hand... I found my Adder at less than the price I paid for my Stinger, from a guy that needed quick cash, got the receit he had, it was 2 weeks old...

Thank you so much for the great review!
I have always been interested in crossbows but now I am going to do a little research on the good ones and take the plunge. I like the silent aspect and can see many uses where you might want silence with a backup firearm just in case. I built a compound bow years ago and with practice was pretty good.
Cody, if you want a quality recurve crossbow, look at Excalibur crossbows. Some of the best made.
Not some of the best, they are the best made recurve crossbows in the world, love my 360td.
I live in the UK and I have a few crossbows for self defence
How soon until the "repairing holes in metal siding" video?
you know he'll be grinning ear to ear when he makes that video. lol.
I have a Barnett Jackal. It's on the lower end of the price range but it's still potent enough.
That be twice as strong I think these are 230 fps
The bolts are aluminum,
another very useful tip, if you have the carbon fiber bolts. thanks for looking out for us.
@@wranglerstar Whatever they are made of check that they are completely straight as they can get jammed on it and break on you
Watched a guy shoot wooden arrow from a compound bow. It split the knock and took out his eyeball. Scary stuff
You are correct crossbows are serious weapons capable of dealing tremendous amounts of damage
That thing gave me the willies just watching, make sure you do a video of a “proper crossbow” when or if you get one
That is a beautiful Wilton vise. Work of art as well as a very functional addition to any bench.
“ If you ever get shot with a broad head just sit still and prepare to die.” Lol that’s tough
I grew up shooting Cross bows . and you are a brave man to shoot in side you Garage or shop .lol I really like that you told People to take care in using it . 150 lbs. doesn't sound like much but it will bring doe large game in the wilderness if you need to feed your family .
Thank you for your insight . and you may want to tell People that you can get a cocking string to charge the bow . Good luck and god bless you and your Family .Amen
You should look at some of the pistol crossbows as well... They're no-joke either! lol
113F out here over the weekend and you are still out in the shop shooting videos. Keep up the hard work!
Oddly enough, we can buy crossbows in the UK, and all the extras, including broadheads, just can't use em anywhere.
Are cricket bats still legal ?
@@DasDutchman56 No, outlawed.
@@WelshPigeon - If you need a legal self defense option, they can’t outlaw a tennis racquet, can they? Last time I checked, you could even carry them onto a plane. Just say you were on your way to the tennis court, when some guy attacked you and you feared for your life. Even the UK can’t argue about that, can they?
Alas, I suppose they can.
Crossbows are completely legal in the uk and are readily available have a few myself lots of fun
This thing must really give you the fiz!
He said it gave him the willies. Maybe the willies AND the fiz 😄
@@MyClutteredGarage the will-iz! it's a mix of willies and fiz. lol.
The Wiz Fillies
Excellent take.
I used to do competition archery with a 45 pound bow. For under $100 you can buy something that shoots like an air rifle, has 150 pounds draw, is more accurate than a bow, and delivers the kinetic force of a musket. These are excellent tools, excellent for target shooting, and if you are in America, excellent for hunting.
I bought the same one in 2016 and I knew the moment you said 1/2" plywood that it was going through it to the vanes. Those things are crazy powerful and crazy dangerous. Two things you should get for it: a cocking string and bow string wax.
Since your experiencing the high heat and humidity up there, are you considering adding some air conditioning and solar support to your place? to deal with current and future heat waves?
Crossbows even the cheapest crossbows are a beautiful way for young people to get into archery if they don’t have the strength to pull a boat it gives them the same Phil without the power that is required doing archery! Plus if you think how much better that could be if you’re in a survival situation and having to shoot food if you can get the scope on it and the scope cited in well! Great video
Unfortunately Simply Safe can be tricked with a $5 key fob from Amazon. Still beats a zero though.
I'm pretty sure they fixed that. I certainly hope they did.
What kind of sense does that make?
Must be nice to live in a place where someone breaking in your house has more rights than you.
@@JB-vt5sz It makes none, these laws are created by those who live in gated communties.

i got one of these like that exact model 150 pound crossbow and those bolts can really go far my friend shot mine at the wood pile one year and just hit the edge of a log and the bolt vanished we couldn't find it anywhere. about 3 or 4 years latter in a field in the opposite direction of where he was aiming i found the bolt while walking my dog and it was a complete half circle and almost half a mile away from the wood pile again in the opposite direction from where he had aimed. also from that i can say the cheap plastic fletching on those hold up surprisingly well to a desert sun
Unlikely. These things don't fly far if knocked off their path. I think they wind might have took it for a ride.
Shooting into plywood isn't ever a good idea! with that being said I always enjoy you videos
That's like burning C notes.
Why not? What could a crossbow do?
@@aceggkspade958 shatter the bolts and send fiberglass/ carbon fiber (but I'm assuming they're cheap fiberglass) shrapnel everywhere

Looks fun, never could get into bow hunting but this is definitely interesting.
Next up: Professional Homeowner fixed professionally made hole.
It's easy to get close to a tree/doorway/widow and when you shoot the limbs expand out smack the tree and if it doesn't break the bow it will knock the thing right out of your hands and smack you silly.
look at the balista bat pistol crossbow. very impressive
TIL arrows for crossbows are called 'bolts'.
Be careful this might trigger the crossbow community gatekeepers
Been watching for a couple years, love your videos.
Big pickup in sales of these after The Walking Dead.
I actually found one of these at a yard sale for $8.00. I'm going to take it hunting next year because crossbow has recently become legal for anyone to hunt with in my state, we'll see how it does. From this video it seems like it will be plenty powerful enough.
Apparently they need to include instructions for west coasters to not shoot the wall in their own garage........ what was the thought process on that
Love the music and the scenery at the end cody @WranglerStar
When you decide on the nicer one you’re going to get, please let us know.
He will make a vid on the new one.
Praying for you and your family in this heat wave and this fire season. Stay safe and God bless you.
Adding to your comment about getting these as alternatives to firearms. Go check out “The Slingshot Channel” on here for some
ideas on some full-auto modifications.
Is there a link to Amazon site for this product ? Maybe I'm lazy, but not finding this exact package with scope on AMZ. Thanks !
Believe it's shown as SAS Manticore brand , but with a wooden stock. package with scope and bolts.
Its Jaguar, not manticore, this is the 150lb version, there is also a 175lb jaguar crossbow
I can sympathize with that sweaty PNW forehead sheen. Hope y’all survive this week
Finally, a pilot hole pre-drilled for that outdoor power point you always wanted.
I am glad there are no instructions. Professional homeowners don’t need instructions. I look forward to the “how to repair steel siding” video. Lol.
This looks like a recreation of the barnett ranger. Good choice on skipping the scope. I had a scope on the original crossbow that this looks based off of. Snapped off after a while. Super cool, I have had a hard time finding parts for my old unit, but this looks like it can be a decent play around with replacement.
Poking holes in the siding with an arrow reminds me of a story from my childhood 😂
Seems like a great preparedness tool. Reusable ammo for hunting in the event you can't get bullets (like the current shortage).
Been loving this new content cody. May God always with you and your family
I just ordered the same one.
Great information here, thanks
