There's a CAT dealer mechanic in Idaho named Josh and he's got a youtube channel "AdaptApe". Very sharp guy, was responsive and helpful over email when we had an issue with a 550hp E model. This is the very type of thing he would be able to diagnose. Best of luck to you!

I had a similar problem on a Cat mot or, but it was an older one {1996). Mine was the check valve in the return line on the back of the fuel rail. Basically, the check valve would stop working intermittently and allow too much fuel out of the rail to be returned to the tanks and not maintaining enough pressure to the injectors. It was an inexpensive fix, but I’d already thrown lots of money at it before we figured it out.

I'm not a truck driver and I know nothing about diesel engines. But I do know that frustrating feeling. When you have tried, replaced and paid lots of money on every possible thing to solve an issue with your means of transportation. Still, that issue persists and you are out of ideas and patience.....and money.
Good luck and let's hope it gets solved for good asap. Stay safe and greetings form Mexico.

Hey Matt maybe replace the springs in the pressure release valve that might be a cheap fix
There is a good episode on the Adept ape channel about fuel pressure problems on a C15
It could be that the fuel pressure and it missing are connected
I would replace the release springs then the pump after the fuel pressure problem and it still misses I would look at the ECM good luck mate

I would check the check valves on the filter base, if that doesn’t do it maybe fuel pump spring is getting weak but that wouldn’t cause an injector to cutout after shifting. The only thing that could really cause it to cut out after a shift could be the ECM and then when you take the load off it by pushing the clutch in it trucks the ECM out and make it run normal. It could also be the fuel temp sensor since it is becoming more of a problem with the hot weather

  • @Jeroen734

Sounds like an issue with the ventilation considering its happening on hot days. the pump can get stymied by negative pressure. You could try slightly loosening the fillercap see if that does anything.

When you figure out what is going on, let me know. I have a same thing with my T2000 for over two years now
All, I did is to fix it is to bypass primary fuel filter with just the hose and just use secondary filter ,
end it seems to fix it. You’re getting air in the system.
For the fuel pressure, you could stretch the spring on the fuel pressure regulator

  • @jamesoliver8967

Hi from England 🇬🇧, I don’t know anything about Peter built trucks or cat engines but I’m sure there would be a similar component - I had fuel pressure issues on my 1ton Navara, I think the American market call it a Frontier?
Anyway, after a lot of head scratching found an online article and ended up replacing the suction control valve which regulates fuel pressure in to the high pressure pump before the injector rail. Turns out it’s a fairly common issue on these trucks and took the cleaver people a while to find it in the first place.
Hopefully you’ve found the problem with the pick up lines on your near side tank though!
Keep up the great work 👍🏻
    Be lucky

I had a B model Cat that started having fuel issues and finally got till it would only idle I cheked the fuel pump filters lines replaced any suspect lines still nothing. Called cat talked to a mechanic he said check the hand pump there are two check valves in there that can screw up,sure enough one was loose and sideways plus the pump was bad I replaced it and problem solved. They have probably updated that thing and back then the fuel pressure was about 40psi but might be worth a look.

  • @adssco120
    @adssco120 ปีที่แล้ว

I hate seeing guys worry about their machines and end up going to the stealership to be taken advantage of. Matt if you havnt done so already and the fuel seep on your tank isnt the fix. Your secondary fuel filter housing on the return to tank pipe side is a regulator valve, the valve unscrews out from under a plug it is a non serviceable component which is replaced. these valves are problematic on the acert engines and cause any number of intermittent fuel issues from occasional no start to loss of full power and in your case injector drop out which is no surprise. If it was air in the system from the supply line you would end up with a empty primary fuel filter cannister and have problems hot or cold. And by the way... monitoring the pressure gauge has diagnosed the problem for you. well done.

Cold weather seem to work fine, when its hot the fuel pressure is a problem. As well under load it have the problem but with out it just pulls normal. I wonder if the amount of fuel is needed to pull heavy or lite is different.. Does your truck regulates "faulty regulator" how much fuel it brings in to the engine? maybe something that might be controls or the system?.... Look at the ending part, I wonder if the hose in and out of the tanks needs to be changed as well the fitting. but that is a good start. The change of hoes and fitting, should not cost so much I bet if it only that.

But that was under warranty at that time. Hope you get it figured out. keep up the good work.

I had a problem with my farm tractor. Turned out to be a huge bug, hornet maybe, that had got in the tank somehow, gone rock hard in the diesel and sunk. As demand for fuel rose, it would randomly get sucked to the fuel hose, partially blocking it. Tractor would run but the clear sediment bowl would empty leaving a vacuum eventually losing power. Let off power demand or switch off and it would usually clear.
The dealer was trying to diagnose the issue and flushed the tanks out but didn’t find the bug.
Eventually I put an endoscope in the tank ( pick up is in the crossover pipe) and there was the bug again. Stripped it down, cleaned out bug parts, ran great for over a thousand hours until I traded up.

Just my ten cents worth here retired truck mechanic from Australia sounds to me like you have the internals of a fuel line colapsing so it will not deliver enough fuel to the injector pump and why you think there is one injector out is that may be a weak plunger in the injector pump so to find the crook cylender check the temp on each one of the exhaust outlets on the manifold and the one that has the lowest temp is your prob only check this when it plays up to get a proper reading

The valve was to keep the fuel tanks level. That one picture of your tank, when you were fueling, was that your fuel draw or tank heater lines? If that is your fuel draw I would eliminate them valves. Also if your tanks have draw tubes from the top of the tank to the bottom I have seen them get crap in them and have seen them get a hair line crack in them

Take your fuel pump apart and put a new spring kit in. Did you ever put a new Fluid damper damper on your engine. They are American made. Engine builders say that you should change them every 500 to 750 thousand miles. Caterpillars are usually pulling around 80 to 100 pounds of
fuel pressure when running down the road. Just Saying. GOOD LUCK with your project. 👍🇺🇸

You have some internal issue going on like a crack head or timing issuees going on did you check to see if drive shaft sync up with each other if they don't line up with each others that would cost the vibration because of unbalance

Forgive me if you’ve already mentioned it, but what have you done to the actual injection pump itself? How old is it? Maybe there’s an issue with the injector actuating. Is it electronic or oil actuated like in 6.0 Powerstrokes?

Meaby it is time for an engine and components rebuild

I think you might have a fuel pump behind the diesel tank that pushes it up to the engine fuel pump that feed the injectors if not coolant might be getting into the cylinder head.

I think you have more problems other than low fuel pressure. You injectors would fire just fine even at 30psi to the injection pump. As long as the injection pump has fuel it will pressurize the injector enough to make it pop. Even if your fuel pump stops working the injection pump would still siphon fuel under its own suction. So just having one injector fail tells me its not just one isolated incident or problem. You have multiple issues. Plus I dont think its an injector failing, I am willing to bet you have a jake brake failing in one cylinder causing a valve to stay shut and go dead and the fuel pressure is a separate issue.
