For those who are going to this video for a DIY job: on models that don’t need the retrofit, you don’t need to remove the cowl and stabilizer bars in order to access the pump and lines. Also, if you can hear the HPFP over the injectors, it’s time to replace the HPFP, even with no codes.
thanks man and how about the crankshaft position ? i heard i need to positioning it but i have no knowledge about that 😕,mine is an e87 116i ..any help is welcome.
Bmw wanted $1,260. Bought from fcp for $317 with 2 day shipping. Delivered in a little over 24hrs. Amazing. Easy job that can be done on the side of road if necessary.
Gareth thank you for making this video, I didn't actually need a fuel pump as I thought. I found out the problem was one of the hoses on the boost solenoid on the engine cover (which I had no clue that's what that was!) being disconnected. Saved me a much-dreaded trip to the dealer as I couldn't pull any DTCs. Thanks!
Came by to say you just saved me a butt load of money.... was getting code 11C404 randomly and it would throw the vehicle into limp mode. It would happen during rain, it would happen when it was sunny... sport mode, non sport mode, anything. A lot of digging and researching later and I found this video FINALLY showing the location of the fuel pump, and the quantity control valve... watched your video up to Wire Splicing and had an "Ah Ha" moment. Checked the vehicle (A 2012 528i xDrive) and sure enough it was green and white now...... traced...found splice and when tape came off one of the splices fell apart. Boom... issue found, fixed, and working wonderful now.
Hi Carlos, it is possible it could play a role in that. Another thing to consider is how the vehicle is being driven. If the vehicle sees a lot of short drives, that will also cause fuel to get into the oil.
Our 2012 320i with N20 and 90,000 miles makes a horrible knocking sound Mechanic says its normal Others say its the High Pressure Fuel Pump. Will Changing the Fuel Pump reduce or eliminate the diesal sounding tapping sound ?
@ 22:12 , installing the covers , you see 2 tabs , those tabs must be placed in the groves on the car itself, in most cases i see them bend and not fitting
Hi, I have a 2013 528i with the N20 engine. I am throwing the P1072, System too Rich code. I have replaced plugs and coils with parts from FCP Euro. Still have the code. I read something suggesting I could have a failing HPFP. Thoughts on that possibility? Thanks!
Good video Gareth. I just had my HPFP replaced on my 316i F30 N13 engine, after noticing rough idle and slight hesitation on acceleration. The HPFP resolved these issues. However, I notice that the odometer racks up mileage when on idle...i.e 6.7..6.8...6.9..7...7.1 after a few seconds. I used to average 8.0litres...now sitting on 11.2litre per 100km. The car is currently on 185,000km. What could the issue be. I read somewhere that HPFP should be replaced on 120,000miles, what about the LPFP?
If you are on idle, you don't eat much km or miles, so yes it's gonna take a lot of fuel to cover those 100km at idle...you also state you have a new hpfp, so that is most likely Pumping a lot more fuel to the injectors then your old one ..
I have codes of rich mixture and I checked my vacuum reservoir and it has oil and the vacuum lines too, the car started to trough white blueish smoke trough the tailpipes. The smoke smell like something weird burned but it is not sweet as coolant. My oil cap and oil smell like pure gas so I am planning to replace the Hight pressure fuel pump and the vacuum pump, do you think this will resolve my problems? , car idle and runs normal its just the smoke and the check engine light for mixture too rich. I need some help please.
We changed the Valve Cover Gasket, although we needed to get a socket for replacing the spark plugs due to oil and crud in the compartment. This cause the car to sit for a couple of days. Once we got back to it, got everything back together, tried to start the engine. It turned over but didn’t hold the pressure from the fuel. Notice so much gas was on the ground. Appears the gas line been expelling gas during the wait. Added more gas, after multiple try’s it finally held. But after letting it rest, I had to do the same multiple tries before it held. The good thing is no more smoke from leaking oil. What did we do wrong?
Thanks so much for this video! I had a dreaded fuel system malfunction error with limp mode and cutoff that I was able to remedy with the FCP Euro kit! The only change I'd recommend is using uninsulated butt connectors for crimping instead of trying to heat shrink insulated connectors, and use a heat shrink that has adhesive embedded in it so it's truly waterproof.
Thanks for the video it’s help so much . However how come some fuel pressure pump does have a ring seal on , I don’t get it . My fuel pressure pump looks like is a missing rind seal on, thanks
i replaced the hpfp in my car and most the symptoms like drivetrain malfunction and rough idling went away, but i noticed i still have worse fuel economy and i’m a little down on power
I got 2014 BMW 55Oi X Drive and I broke a fuel pressure pump and my mechanic says there are two and that you have to change them both, please I need to know if that’s true 🤝🙏

I just replaced the high pressure pump as indicated in the video , Now the car is taking too long to start , When I was able to start the car , I can see that RPMS is at 1000 , like is it going down .also gave me a code regarding the high pressure fuel sensor , Any comments ?
is that gasket on the n55 engine? looks like the same pump and i didn't notice one coming out and i defiantly didn't put one back in now im wondering if i did it wrong now
Before you order a kit from FCP euro don’t assume you have old harness. I did and ended up buying new harness that I did not need. Disconnect your battery more than likely you will get sprayed I didn’t even touch my car, but after I disconnected the lines 30 seconds later car started spraying fuel. Just take negative terminal off.
Do you need to buy the kit if you have a 2016 LCI N20 cause in the beginning of the video you said that if you have 13,14 & up you said you have to buy the kit but in the wiring process you said that if you have a 13 & 14 below you have to change wire.
Looks like the HPFP should simply pull right out once the bolts are removed, but mine seems to be stuck and will not come out! I am hesitant to use a flat head screwdriver to pry it out. Any tips on how to get that out? And mainly, any idea what would cause it to be stuck like this?
Have the car in neutral with wheels blocked and parking brake on. Then give the crankshaft nut a turn. The pump engages with the exhaust cam (I think). Turning the crankshaft up and down will move that part under the fuel pump and possible free it.
I have a 2014 428i n20 not part of the timing chain lawsuit, but also doesn’t have this updated fuel line isolator that he was talking about. I’ve been noticing a ticking on deceleration at low speeds but only for the first few minutes, the noise seemed to go away once I got warmed up, even sitting right next to buildings and then a weird resonance that comes from the HPFP (I’m thinking it’s coming from there at least) at 2k rpm that I noticed when I was trying to get it to make the ticking noise.
My hpfp wires sensor needs to be replaced and this is the only video I could find that is very helpful. Excellent video but I really dont like the crimp. Soldering IS the best connection. If you look inside the ECU that is mounted on the VERY TOP of the engine with the most vibration, its got hundreds of solders. The best way would be to solder twin the wires then shrink tube and on top of that tape it around all the length of the wires with Tesa high heat harness tape.
In automotive wiring repair you always use crimps. Solder on wires that are free to move is prone to breaking. Module internal wires don't really have any forces tugging or pulling on them while the engine vibrates things around. I'm not an engineer, just. A mechanic but I've heard that explanation from many different training courses over my career. Crimps have always worked for me.
