    Pretty cool looking - my husband and I want to check these types of homes out. We'd love something small, maybe 12-1400 sq ft. - We downsized almost 2 years from a big 2 story home - sold it and are now renting a small apartment until we decide what to do. We are looking for a piece of land closer to our grandkids/kids. We're told to watch for building codes and permits if we are serious about this, but we know this ahead of time now so we won't be surprised. The Morton website is a little confusing in terms of trying to nail down a price of what we're looking.for though, but we're still considering it. You have a beautiful home!

    Smart building system. Is insurance cheaper? Would be nice to have examples of buildings that are not on concrete. Well, as far as the living space parts. Access to plumbing etc....and keeping plumbing below floor and not so much up walls and over ceiling would be ideal for the living space. Ducting under floor. Any way to affordable have steel frame floor joists? Thanks

    Does Morton have contractors who can turn a existing 48x72(approx) Morton Building into a home?
    Looking to turn Morton Building built in 1986 into a house. The barn floor is mostly gravel/mud at this time, so would have to dig it out to lay a concrete slab. Would like a section of the home upstairs. Trying to have at least a 6 bedroom home in the least amount of space to keep heating costs down.
    We also have a larger Morton Building we could use if we needed the bigger one for enough living space. I just have no clue where to begin as to finding a contractor to do the work.

    Nice but where does the down sizing fit in with this type of home? I love the wrap around porch.

    • @anne-mariebrooks2256
      @anne-mariebrooks2256 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They downsized the house part to the one bedroom and the upstairs craft room. They no doubt expanded their garage space, as the structure is almost 3 times as much garage as it is house. The structure is 54' X 102'. The house part of that is only 28' X 54'. This, no doubt, is the husband's dream. He has room for ALL his toys and tools. She has a lot of crafts which makes the house part, since it is so small, comparatively, look cluttered, especially the area around that antique stove.

      its a lot cheaper to buy a shell and do it yourself i started mine 60x25 from a local company slabe and building was about 18,000 started off with 1 bedroom kitchen/living room and 1 car garage now have 3 bedrooms done it all myself for about 45k not really worth it unless you do 90% of the work.

Still looking at interior costs, but planning for kitchen, living room, dining room and master bedroom with en-suite, on first floor, 2 bedrooms, theatre, office and rec room upstairs, and still have room to use. But looking at less than $110,000 finished.

      Looking at the calculator above, the 2 buildings listed as examples, run $45 a square foot for just the buildings. Is that cost for the built on site building or just the cost of the materials? I realize that the interior design is up to the owner, but what about some idea on the interiors. Are you looking at another 50 to 100 thousand to finish it?

    • @RoStAr24TeLeVisIoN
      @RoStAr24TeLeVisIoN 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      theres alot of nice factors to this both storage and the land, woodshops, sewing, shop, a place for your toys, as you seen no need for starage rentals they have their atvs, cars, trucks, home trailer, boat, and hobby rooms aswel as their cozy sleeping and living quarters. mainly for the mans mancave..

    • @thebigcountry8518
      @thebigcountry8518 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You gain a lot. Here's one awesome upside to this. It's a free standing building. It goes up really quick, and being free standing. You can complete the inside overtime yourself or sub it out one room at a time as your budget allows, while you live in the wide open space with a roof over your head. You can make it as luxurious as you want by budget, instead of being stuck with a huge mortgage payment for a completed home..and if I'm not mistaking,home insurance is less on these types of homes. No shingles to replace and fire. I think the tin has a 30 year warranty on fading. Been awhile since I checked. So no repainting your home every couple of years. outside wood rot etc.. There's a lot when you really think about it.

    • @navyregrets
      @navyregrets 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you watch home building shows (Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop, etc.), you hear a lot of talk about "load bearing walls." If you have internal load bearing walls, you are limited as to the floorplan that you can have. Morton Buildings are free standing buildings. In other words, ALL of the load bearing is done by the exterior walls. If you wanted to make a room 120' X 300', you could do it in a Morton Building. Hoping to build a Morton Building ourselves in a few years once the nest empties out!

      My mother-in-law had to be. Builder tried to cheat her every possible way, including cracked slab, used appliances, wrong color paint and stain, lack of door opening to the bathroom, Wrong cabinets, damaged window facings, etc. If you don't pay attention, it can happen. Many builders are scrupulously honest, and others aren't, just as in any other profession.

    Really nice home. Just waaaay to much stuff in it. 5 ladders??, tons of dolls, all those tuperwear storage containers, and tons of clutter on every wall and counter surface. Some people love their "stuff", and need a place to display their stuff. People are free to buy and do what they want to be happy. I have no issue with that, but I'm just more of an anti clutter person.

    And here's the problem, we're never happy, she wants to do it again but larger, if he allows that, in a short time it will be larger or she will let out, no, actually what we had was just right....thank goodness the husband puts his foot down as she mentioned and she is submitting to that, for the good of both of them. Please understand that it is not in her nature to be content, as evidenced by the overdecorating, it can only be controlled, he must have the skill to tell her what she wants subtlety, because she has no idea. I don't have such skill, so things clash and yes lifelong single here.

      Are you serious? This is not a marriage counselling site. People do still have rights in America. correct? I am sure she doesn't tell him what to do with his big workshop and his big garage. Seriously, this is just inappropriate and way off subject.

      His garage/workshop space is 74' X 54'. Her house space is 28' X 54'. You can double that if you count the upstairs craft/multi-purpose room. Did you see all the toys and tools he had - proudly and neatly displayed all around from floor to ceiling. God forbid, but if he should pre-decease her, what is she going to do with all those tools? Box them up and sell the lot of them! He got his dream garage workshop. She got to downsize into a much smaller space. And just what the hell do you know about that woman's nature to be content??? Evidently, she does have some idea of what she wants or things would be busting out all over, no matter how subtly he "told her what she wants!" I am so glad you realized that you are a jerk and have not tried to foist your way of macho thinking on some poor woman or girl.

      People are strange that way...more readily accept what they’re familiar with. I have family in Denver who are involved in real estate development. Looking at their projects and comparable listings, it’s clear that in some areas there’s a lot of copying going on. Buyers expect marble baths, high end appliances, and premium finishes throughout, and builders oblige. Put Home Depot DIY quality kitchen cabinets and appliances in a $2M house to save $ and good luck trying to sell it, because buyers will want to tear it all out.
