You said Hymes had described 6 steps for analysis of events. But I have also read somewhere that Hymes Described S.P.E.A.K.I.N.G model for such analysis which includes 8 steps. Which one is official or widely accepted?

Good question. The six step analytic model for speech events, and the speaking mnemonic, are two different things. What I am presenting here is Himes six steps for analyzing a speech event. The speaking mnemonic is a tool to help ethnographers pay attention to what is going on in a speech event while capturing the data that they will subsequently analyze.
