This film made me search my mind to find my happiest moment. It took a few minutes since I haven't had many. But then I remembered a wonderful moment from 40 years ago. It was nice to re-live it "Again." Very nice film.
*holy mother of goodness...* this short film left me speechless for half an hour - after it gave me the most intense flashback since 1993. 26 years ago my fiancée, pregnant in sixth month, and my unborn son died in an accident. caused by an overtired truck driver who failed to see a red traffic light. all happened in front of my eyes because we were driving in seperate cars. my son died immediately - my fiancée spoke gently and calmly to me as i got to her car. and she smiled. a minute later she passed away.
I knew it...so sad... he had to live with the knowledge that his last moment with her he was still mad at her, never forgave her and didn’t speak to her. That alone reinforces the saying, “never stay angry or hold a grudge against the person you love or loved cause you don’t know when they will be gone. She said sorry to him, but he never spoke. Gosh, this was beautiful and well acted - and such an amazing concept. We all have a moment we want to go to...again.
So true... my own past is riddled with missed opportunities, not saying the things I should have or refraining from the ones that shouldn't've been said... Robust as life is, it is also fleeting and at any time could fly away just like that. If anybody is like me, they look at these things and want immense to have the ability to change it, but alas, we have to deal with the past well as possible and do our best to not repeat mistakes in the future.
He should have left her and moved on. I wouldn't want to stay with a cheater, especially after hosting a surprise party with her colleagues and then hear her say she was at work. Nah, I would've packed my stuff and move on.
to Mature Patriot / 2 BUSTED THUMBS Unless you free yourself from such spiritually-crippling bondage, and move on. And I speak from experience. I know what it's like, took me 7 years to get over my longest-lasting woman (despite 'trying' to move on). Eeh man, where to begin. Simply beautiful. Rather overwhelmed by this. Reminds us of all that we "lost". Poignant and breathtakingly beautifully crafted. When we remember things, we're just remembering the last time we remembered them. Ultimately I think that every little bit of sensory input into the brain is stored unless a brain injury or old age come into play. Depending on what you believe, your memories and "soul" could be driving your body from an alternate universe...etc
A pretty decent metaphor for why a man will sit on a stool in a bar looking back at his life through the bottom of a glass. Still. it enabled me to remember what love used to be like :-)
I have realized that going back just serves no purpose. There is not a single moment I can recall which is worthy of reliving. In the present moment if something appears to be similar to a past experience, I am most likely to change that. Been there done that got the t-shirt.
Interesting conceptual video. In a way we are already going there, step by step. Used to be that until the development of successful photography in the 1830's all we had to rely on was our memory. So is someone close to you died the only image you had of them was what remained in your brain - your memory of them. Obviously, over the years this fades and becomes distorted and perhaps as you get older disappears altogether. Then photographs came into being so that we could hold accurate images of our loved ones, family and friends etc and immortalize their images. These we could refer back to on occasion and refresh our memories of them, and the emotions that can go with them. Then came along cinematography so that using the same process but with many images in motion we could refresh them in movement also - and then with voice added shortly later on. Now we can digitally store these images with high resolution and very accurate sound. So we can play these over and over again. Makes you wonder if it's really healthy to do this especially if you have lost someone close to you and with strong emotional attachments - good or bad. It may be better that you do lose the memory of things over time so that you can move on with your life. If 'Again' every becomes a real possibility then I think it would need to be very closely controlled as it could cause serious mental harm.
Excellent. This man hates his life now, and will relive the moments he wants over and over again, even if it ages him faster and kills him. He will just do this again and again until he dies. He feels he has nothing else to live for, except for what which is gone. I can totally understand getting to that point, given the right experiences in life. Everyone is full of regrets. Some more than others. A procedure like this in real life would be wildly popular, regardless of risk.
What the guy cared about most was taken from him in the past. He didn't want any future with anyone else but her. Then he got the sign that she was indeed waiting for him in the afterlife. I think I would personally do the exact same thing if I was in that guys shoes.
@@AdolfAuschwitz79 Nicely said! I just wanted to add that probably the side effect of aging "quickly" probably destroyed any hope left in him for a future! This fuels his present hopes to continue on long enough to figure how to "find her". My thoughts are that he's gonna keep going until his brain "glitches completely" (doc "misplacing him" forever) to be with his love & find out what's real - but, no matter it'll be real to him. 🙃
@See the Light A nice romantic view like yours does not permit anyone to make mistakes or experience forgiveness or redemption. Since you are faultless except for your obvious hostility/resentment you will have a full life untroubled by such frailties. But when you hit 17, you will understand better.
have anyone noticed that his final "again" scene and repeating it despite knowledge of fast ageing process seems to be kind of suicide?? or perhaps hope for reunion with beloved one?
I’ve heard it said that good art makes you feel. I watched this 10 minutes ago and have been in my own head thinking about the moments I’d like to relive. I thought of long lost friends, the times my wife made laugh uncontrollably, the first time my daughter kissed me on the cheek, or the time she ran into my arms because she was scared of the coffee grinder, etc... I guess I’m saying this film is not just good. To me, it’s fine art.
At the end of the car crash he saw her glowing beautifully in a field. Then you see her reaching out to him, and before he could reach her, they woke him up. He was surprised. I believe it was her spirit, in the now, not just a memory..and that's why he wanted to go back again. Maybe it's just me.
Miss Janeen I agree with you you got it they saved him before he could go with her take it from somebody who's been on the other side and been brought back sometimes the only reason you stay is responsibilities you have here
Miss Janeen, I was looking for this comment because it's what I thought too, she even reacted to the doctor's voice. I'm just worried about what "place" she was calling him. Her sign was like bending the middle and ring fingers, while keeping straight the index and pinkie... very strange.

Some of the best films Iv'e seen and music Iv'e heard reminded me of other films, books and songs. The older you get the harder it is to find something new. It's because nothing is new or original, and everything, or everyone is building on some others work. Something totally original would not be comprehended by anyone. But that is fine : )
Going back doesn’t need a machine ,your mind will take you there, the problem is that it all hurts as much today as it did all those years ago.The pain doesn’t get better you have to try to live with it.The hurt that was done to you and the hurt you caused back damages on a truly fundamental level. So be kind to each other and yourself.
I liked this. I thought the actors did a very nice job. I think the story was well done with an ending. I would like to see them do more things. Maybe Dust can put them in more films.
reminds me of another short, which I think I saw on dust as well. In it, several scientists found a machine to slow down time for them, so they can feel one best moment in their life for an extended time. problem was, they were so obsessed with finding the right moment to slow down time, some went on a lifelong journey to find their perfect moment and became obsessed with it
I think most, if not all men have gone through someone they loved so dearly that they screw it up one way or another. Then spend the rest of their lives trying to fix, relive, or become fixated on those memories, feelings, and emotions. Sad, but so common. I can so relate to this episode. I personally have never been able to get past my first and only love who is now happily married to someone else. sigh...such is life...
@@reeblesnarfle5443.. i was a devout christian. but the church has failed me many times(as it has many other people throughout history). and life has not blessed me so god has not blessed me. when the church tell their congregation(covertly) that trump is our last chance and Hillary is a Wh*re of Babylon . then i have to really pause. and re-think why pastors would say such an ugly remark. i feel like a piece of wood floating in the ocean, praying, screaming for God's help. but nothing. Maybe god doesnt love me for my sins, or thoughts. I believe in Christ, and hope he will safe me when i pass. But i do thank you for your support. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and effort to help.
There are wonderful churches that are probably more in touch with God. Look around and you may find one. I would recommend the United Church of Christ or the Unitarian Universalist Church. Some Society of Friends congregations are good (though others have been taken over by fundamentalists). Keep searching; NOT all religion is like the kind you have experienced!
@@homesgui_chrome9186 CHURCH fails many people...but GOD does not. I do not attend church...but I am a strong believer in God. Church is just a building, full of flawed people, some there to make them feel better about themselves, some there for show, some there for something to do, some there to actually worship. The relationship YOU have with God is what is important...not what some church or clergyman TELLS you to do. I'll admit, mine relationship certainly could be better...but God is forgiving as long as you believe, and trust in Him...and I really don't think trying your best to be a good person hurts, either.
@@100percentSNAFU .. Thanks for reminding me of that wisdom.. i get caught up with some of the so called "religious people" they dont condemn their own for doing wrong. I do believe in God, but whats going on in the world makes me think..where is he? There is corruption at high places and yet Evangelicals approve! I have always try do the right thing. You know the saying "A good deed never goes unpunished" which makes me think. People are pretty evil to intentionally & covertly hurt others. Which makes me think where is God? Esp. with all these corrupt pastors, that includes my ex-pastor who is very influential and rich. but my faith is critically challenged.
Its predictability seeded by wonderful attention to detail lends itself to exploring many extrapolations of action, belief, and consequence. Nicely done.
The train passing or passenger moving in a car simulation 8:17 somehow is the most calming thing in this movie it also perfect device signalling the move from memory to memory
Another absolute rockin' winner, DUST. You guys rock! Please take over Hollywood and bring the good stuff to us in full length films soon! Interesting film. I can see how Again tech could (or should I say "will"?) become addictive. The enchanting Megan Lozicki is my new crush.
Thus we see the problem of wanting to re-live the past. We can't change it but some people pine away wanting it to be different. or wanting those special feelings they experienced, now long gone. One can get so lost in the past that they abandon their present, actual life. Giving up what they have, and possibly could have, for what they can never have...or have again.
"It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts. You, who have never known your family, see them standing around you. However, this mirror will give us neither knowledge or truth. Men have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen, or been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible."
Seems like an allegory for heroin addiction. Good warning for any type of addiction. Just remembered some words from Joni Mitchell's song "The Circle Game"; "We can't go back, we can only look, behind from where we came, and go round and round and round in the circle game." Only Eckart Tolle's appreciating whatever form the present moment takes can save us from being in bondage to the past (or worrying about the future). "Live with no expectations; perceive without judging; love without attachment." and "Everything is sacred, but nothing matters." The present moment is all we have, appreciate it to the full. The past is gone, the future is a guess, coz when the future comes, it will come as a present moment.
Good short. I don't believe that he was dwelling on the past though as much as he needed to revisit the past to gain closure. But it's also a reminder to seize every moment & live now. Make now always the most precious time because now will never come again.
Wow. It was powerful. I'm not a young man, so i can remember every single chance i wasted and plenty of beautiful moments i' ve been presented with. And the woman who really was the poetess of my life. But, as a matter of fact, this movie reminds me not to waste all the blessings i'm being through in my present life. Nothing else matters. Go on, be always careful in your life... and thank you for such a powerful movie.
Very well done! I feel like I can relate to this, though there isn't this sort of technology, I can re-live past moments of my life by reading my quite detailed journals that I wrote of things that happened. I have no idea how many times I've re-read some of the better moments, such as the first time my ex-girlfriend kissed me. Haven't read the more sorrowful moments, like when we split up and the frustrations leading up to such, nearly as frequently. Reading those past romantic moments is very comforting, very enjoyable, but I know it does me more harm than good. This sci-fi movie shows this same thing in a more blunt, tangible manner.
life is short life is brutal,if u can find some happiness hang onto it because death is coming for us all, every one has sad storys, so when u find those few seconds of joy cherish them!!and well done nice work sent me back too a happier time so ty
Great! And no post-apocolyptic cliches! No superbugs wiping out the last of humanity! No mega-corporation zapping people from lasers! Real science fiction! I knew you could do it! Now do it again...
It's a sad tale when there isn't much meaning in one's present life and we keep reliving and longing for the past to remember how it feels to love and be loved in return.
The idea of this kind of technology is terrifying. Humanity as we know it would come to a standstill if this existed. Ben wouldn't be the only person to "overdose" on it. We all would.
Nice use of Alka-Seltzer as a special effect. I can't think of any moment I'd like to revisit that wouldn't hurt to relive on some level. Loss hurts enough the first time around.
‘AGAIN’ would be so nice...so many sweet experiences I would luv to live over, re-visit....one-more-time, but Ben wanted to ‘live’ in his past not just ‘visit.’
mister film maker, everyone of this sort flims am watching, from yesterday til now, has part that i had been just a couple of hours back!! it amazing, an am en going every one of your short films.
And this is the idea of the short movies. To be short. The whole story and everything important in a few minutes. Nothing more, nothing less. If they turn it into full, 1 - hour - and - more - movie, it will have too many unnecessary things. In fact, this short is better than some full movies. Let's stay that way. :)
Great movie, I really enjoyed the story line, the characters and the acting, the directing, cinematography, editing and the ending, class job. Thank you.
Another Great Short!! My initial thought when I saw what AGAIN did was that it could be highly psychologically addictive. We all have places and times we love to revisit. I did think that the main charactor should have been a bit older. Thanks.. :)
Hey, at least we know in the future commercials still have those cheesy faux doctors in white lab coats. Also, more on the point of the video, memories aren't "memories" they're just recordings and every time we play them back our mind alters them ever so slightly until they're not how things really happened at all. That's why two people can remember events incredibly differently. So... whatever you're playing back isn't the actual memory, it's just whatever version of the recording you've ended up creating over time.
"Again" is our latest exclusive premiere on the DUST. Please share and leave a message for the filmmaker.

In it, several scientists found a machine to slow down time for them, so they can feel one best moment in their life for an extended time. problem was, they were so obsessed with finding the right moment to slow down time, some went on a lifelong journey to find their perfect moment and became obsessed with it
This one does have a similar feel to Mark Slutsky's "The Decelerators." Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Wow. Thanks for this mention. I just watched it and it is quite interesting.
Talk to God. Not a fix, but it helps. Lost mine in 92...ARC.

i was a devout christian. but the church has failed me many times(as it has many other people throughout history). and life has not blessed me so god has not blessed me.
when the church tell their congregation(covertly) that trump is our last chance and Hillary is a Wh*re of Babylon . then i have to really pause. and re-think why pastors would say such an ugly remark.
i feel like a piece of wood floating in the ocean, praying, screaming for God's help. but nothing.

I'm a new sub. I love the videos. Great job Dust, your team is better than Hollywood flicks.
Brilliantly made! This could be turned into a series.
This is a really well thought short. Really suprised by it!
Excellent! One of your best short films to date. I can so see this as a full length feature film! Thanks for the great entertainment!
Very well done. Complements to the actors, editors, crew, and director.
Excellent story. One of the best I've watched. Glad to see a great video based on a story line versa one filled with computer generated graphics.
This was good. Very well done and understandable. And it told a complete story.
Seems like an allegory for heroin addiction. Good warning for any type of addiction. Just remembered some words from Joni Mitchell's song "The Circle Game";
"We can't go back, we can only look, behind from where we came, and go round and round and round in the circle game."
Only Eckart Tolle's appreciating whatever form the present moment takes can save us from being in bondage to the past (or worrying about the future).
This film describes how addiction happens better than words. "Everything has a cost."
Intriguing, captivating, human relationship, acting is superb, dialog fasinating, catastrophic tragedy, Most of all Addictive!
Thanks for watching!
"my quite detailed journals", I guess you meant "diaries" 😇
@@sebd6651 Probably - what's the difference?
@@quillmaurer6563 the little padlock?

One of the best films I have ever seen on Dust. Still after all these years ❤
Please No More Fan mail....Peace and Love ....Thanks Dust love the movies !
Very creative film! I love it when it plays with memories and reality together...Mitch Glass thumbs up!
life is short life is brutal,if u can find some happiness hang onto it because death is coming for us all, every one has sad storys, so when u find those few seconds of joy cherish them!!and well done nice work sent me back too a happier time so ty
These short films are excellent.
Great! And no post-apocolyptic cliches! No superbugs wiping out the last of humanity! No mega-corporation zapping people from lasers!
Real science fiction! I knew you could do it! Now do it again...
ooooo mega corporation zapping people from lasers... sign me up!
Wow that was outstanding. So many feels, I'll never be the same again
Brilliant. Idk why, but it reminds me of Black Mirror series ;-)
Actually, it reminds me of the 1996 film "Brain Candy". You can see that this concept would be a disaster even before the blood appears.
Same with me too!
Shockingly good. Please continue with this team. One day your audience will be 10,000 larger.
Thanks for watching! We've got a new one in the works. Should be out early next year!
Those memories are so powerful.. I'm speechless
Great Love Story = Tear Jerking... on a Sci Fi Aspect. Thanks for this!
His pain, his grief, and his sadness will never go away as long as he keeps going back... Again.
Our class was sent here to watch this movie! WOW! Amazing!
What class is that?
i dont know, why your channel is so underrated.
EXCELLENT. My favorite that I've seen here (so far).
Perfect! Another hit! Emotional, Creative, Inspiring. Perfect ending. Keeps us thinking, wondering, creating "what if...." Thank you Dust.
Yes. Love found. Love betrayed. Love lost. Great job with universal themes. Fine film.
‘AGAIN’ would be so nice...so many sweet experiences I would luv to live over, re-visit....one-more-time, but Ben wanted to ‘live’ in his past not just ‘visit.’
Poignant story, fantastic acting, great directing and production, good soundtrack.
Your projects are truly works of art 🎨
mister film maker, everyone of this sort flims am watching, from
yesterday til now, has part that i had been just a couple of hours back!! it amazing, an am en going every one of your short films.
There is No Past and No Future Just the Present ....Can Not relive the past "Again". Just how I feel .Good Video Dust !
this should be turned into a movie
Vanilla Sky?
Well, you commented a movie to be turned into a movie ...
And this is the idea of the short movies. To be short. The whole story and everything important in a few minutes. Nothing more, nothing less. If they turn it into full, 1 - hour - and - more - movie, it will have too many unnecessary things. In fact, this short is better than some full movies. Let's stay that way. :)
Really enjoyed this one. Thank you.
Love is a chemical in your brain, and this guy becomes a junkie.
@eL3ctr1c4L not sure if that's called love (shrugged shoulders)
I got teary thinking about the pain he goes through.
really a great idea and execution of it! Well done!
Great movie, I really enjoyed the story line, the characters and the acting, the directing, cinematography, editing and the ending, class job. Thank you.
That is just sad. Nice Work!
Really..... What if...Again? ... This is so close to my heart!
Another Great Short!! My initial thought when I saw what AGAIN did was that it could be highly psychologically addictive. We all have places and times we love to revisit. I did think that the main charactor should have been a bit older. Thanks.. :)
I enjoyed this short. Nicely done.
Well... this did wonders for my depression.
How does a busboy afford this haha!

He's tipped well.

Steve, don't spoil it for yourself by being so picky. Perhaps he inherited some money or did a scam, what does it matter ?
I assume he doesn't really. Spending money on this that was intended to be for mundane things like bills. (theory)
Amazingly well done, and crushingly sad.
I truly enjoyed, Mitch Glass. Thank you. Well done concept. We all have memories we want to relive.
Thanks for the kind words!
