    Though I'm a native of Dearborn Heights, I've always had an affinity 4 the East Side bc the majority of house were brick (which r very durable; generally speaking). It's very sad that negligence has been quite prevalent in this area. Despite the heavy blight, a LOT of these houses can b salvaged provided proper resources (albeit much easier said than done). As 4 the vacant properties (i.e.: land), residential development can allevi8 some of the woes (again; much easier said than done).

    Detroit is the most gutta city in America...hands down!! Cleveland is Detroits lil gutta brother,a close runner up! I used to make the short two and a half hour drive from Cleveland to the D often back in the late sixties and party the weekend with relatives and friends.That's when 95% of the D was still standing.The riots around '66 and '67 did quite abit of damage but no where near the wide spread damage of today! Hell,it was so many spots to party in the D back then one of the Motown artist recorded a song entitled " Come on to Detroit ". There were clubs everywhere,jazz,r&b,dance....whatever!! You name it and the D had it! I used to love goin' to the Rooster Tail...y'all don't know nothin' 'bout that!! That was just one of so many! It's so sad to see what the D has become.Those neighborhoods you see in this video were bustling with life...people on the street everywhere.You could walk down Woodward,Grand,Mack,6 mile...whatever;and people were on the street.It was always something goin' on at Belle Isle.I won't see it in my life time;but the D is comin' back! And Detroits lil gutta brotha,Cleveland,will come back with it.

    • @jaybennett9026
      @jaybennett9026 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      butch nelson its funny that you compared Cleveland to Detroit. I'm only saying this is because Cleveland was the original Mo Town back in the day. Until auto makers decided to move or set up shop in Michigan. Cleveland had a crummy reputation for sure. Somehow Cleveland lost the Auto and Steel industry but managed to bounce back with a new outlook with the Medical Business. It is not no way shape or form perfect. But it is pacing itself back with new revitalization downtown and on the lakefront. I just wonder why Detroit can't catch on and find a new industry to develop. Hmmmm makes me wonder.

    What's the large facility at 7:10? Looks like it might provide some jobs which is probably why the homes right around it look occupied and reasonably well cared for. But it doesn't take long before the neighborhood takes another real downturn. When the jobs go, there goes the neighborhood.

    No. Driving around destroyed areas of Detroit while the radio talks about Ford moving jobs to Mexico does NOT say it all. What says it all is the bit near the end about the arrest of a man who attacked a three year old. It is the people who define a city not the employers. Poverty cannot be blamed for such inhuman savagery. You don't have to have a job with an auto manufacturer to pick up your yard.

      "The city of Detroit, Michigan, filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy on July 18, 2013. It is the largest municipal bankruptcy filing in U.S. history by debt, estimated at $18-20 billion, exceeding Jefferson County, Alabama's $4-billion filing in 2011."

      The bankrupt of July 18, 2013 actually didn't become affective till later in 2016.

    started in the 60's. at one point there were no more jobs in Detroit except north of 8mile. guess who can't go north of 8 mile, Black ppl. Then one night the police roughed up some dudes at a blind pig and all hell broke loose and continued on for decades. if someone told you that you cant drive past that line but that's where the opportunity is what will you do? Huh? I ask you? and you and you and you..............................

    Seems the majority of these homes seemed to have been built after WW 2 and jammed as close as possible. Makes me wonder what kind of backyard they have. But also noticed that basically NO home seems to have a garage, so they're all parking on the street in the dead of winter?

  • @bracebrooks967
    @bracebrooks967 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm not criticizing, I'm just asking an honest question: Why do you upload footage of the terrible looking areas of Detroit? Now I do like some of your other videos here, especially the ones where you recorded footage of downtown Detroit which looks decent, but this just looks depressing and reminds me of Gary, Indiana 2.0 which I live 15 minutes away from there so know what it looks like, and it just makes me feel bad for those who live there, and are too poor to relocate. It nearly looks as bad as a 3rd world country.

      Pretending something doesn't exist doesn't make it go away. You have to acknowledge something first before you can fix it.

    • @bracebrooks967
      @bracebrooks967 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CharlieBo313 I agree with that statement, I just hope they either tear down those abandoned homes and replace that property with something else or fix those abandoned homes, cause leaving them there just makes most of the city look bad, and sends a warning to potential visitors to stay out of Detroit when all of it isn't dangerous and ugly.

    • @robertnicholls9917
      @robertnicholls9917 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Legend Length I agree. I think many people watch because they see opportunity or they like the way the videos feel. It feels like you're there. Somehow he captures the underlined beauty although it's messed up. For instance, It's funny that others like the radio in the background. I hope he doesn't change his listening habits as a result.
      As for the racists, can't do anything about them.

    • @bracebrooks967
      @bracebrooks967 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can understand that being the case if they were trying to relocate there, or visit some family members, but I honestly don't know who would actually want to look at homes like these that looked like they've been bombed. I'm just hoping these homes are either fixed or torn down cause leaving them there is a bad reflection on the city both by the people who caused the homes to look like that or the people who are responsible for demolishing the vacant homes but won't do it.

    • @bracebrooks967
      @bracebrooks967 7 ปีที่แล้ว
