The high point of the sequel, other than Chris Pine, naturally, was hearing Julie Andrews sing again following her operation to fix a weak spot on her vocal cords. She was worried about never being able to regain her singing voice, but reportedly brought several members of the cast and crew to tears.

After watching this movie more than once I just realized that the party was actually a bridal shower lmao I thought it was just a random slumber party to get to know all the princesses

I'm endlessly amused by Genovia's inconsistent culture. Some Genovians have accents, others don't, the courtroom wigs pull from British lawyers, but the guard uniforms are all over the place.
You'd think they'd want Mia to stand out as the princess who wasn't raised in the country she's about to rule by having her be one of the only people that has an American accent.
The American accents in what is supposed to be a European country annoys me to no end.

To be honest, I just wanted Mia to be with Michael. So I will believe that they ended up together and are living their best lives.

I want a faithful adaptation of the books, with the harsh grandma and her dog, the fallout of Mia and Lily's friendship because of Lily's attitude, Mia's other high school friends like Tina, her complicated relationship with her father, Mia's constant rebellion against the upper class attitudes of her father and grandmother by scheming to have them donate to Greenpeace as well as how her vegetarianism irritates her grandmother, her summers in Genovia, the plotline where Grandma accidentally starts a server strike across New York, her relationship with JP and the way he used her for content for his senior project, the romance novel she wrote under an alias, Boris??? (everything about him, I love the 180 flip he had where he went from classical musician to rockstar), the half sister??? the secret pregnancy???
The movies just lost so much of the drama from the books. I think scrap the idea of a third movie and make a TV show.

The Princess Diaries 2 is actually a guilty pleasure of mine...dare I say, I even enjoy it more than the first simply because of how shallow and indulgent it is. Problematic flaws and all.

BECAUSE IT WASN'T IN THE BOOOOOKSSSSS!!!! DANGNABBIT, DISNEY!! Meg Cabot actually took the liberties in the movie version in stride, and incorporated them in the books. In the books, Mia and her friends were inspired by the "TV movie about her life" to hang out in the school roof. And she makes fun of Mia dating a royal and not ending up with Michael in said movie about her life. If you liked Mia with Michael, just read the book series.
I think if there was a Princess Diaries 3, it might possibly turn out to be about Mia being married and also on the way to having a "will they, won't they" affair with her highschool boyfriend. AND THEN there would be as many Charles and Camilla jokes scattered in there as possible, in the entire movie.

Yes, I agree! The first movie is a joy to watch, but the sequel deviates from the source material TOO much, to the extent that author Meg Cabot was dissatisfied.

@@DumiNihi nope, Mia was an only child until her mom married again and got pregnant with a son. Mia’s only sibling is her half-brother. She does have a good group of close female friends who may sometimes seem sisterly - and her best friend Lilly ends up becoming her sister in law because Mia married Lilly’s older brother Michael.
Lol everything is changed.the second movie is completely different than the books.Mia is revealed to have a secret half-sister in the 11th book which takes place 8 years after the final book
If I hadn't been... 14... when this movie came out and I had written the script, I would have called Micahel to come and rescue/marry Mia because at least she liked him and had a history with him, and knew all his moods and he had her best interests at heart. ALSO in the books, she was IN LOVE with him.
Watching Princess Diary 2 from Europe is wild. I wonder if it started the "fictional kingdom in europe" trope. And I love that a KINGDOM in EUROPE with MONARCHS celebrates a very American Independence Day.
I think we can all agree that as both children and adults, we all longed for more Raven in PD2. We all got so excited whenever she was on screen, Annnddd… she’s gone.

That said, I am so glad that the original writers toned down Lily's toxicity, fleshed out Grandma Queen, and really brought out Joe's dark side. IMHO, Nicholas had NO chemistry with Mia, and I had hoped Mia ended up with Michael.

All I remember about this movie is the mattress sliding scene! I rewatched this movie so many times as a kid yet the scene where all the girls are just having fun on the mattresses just stuck in my head. Honestly, after finishing this video, they could've done a lot more in this movie, it doesn't seem like much happens. Like you said, bringing her highschool sweetheart would ramp up the drama, and letting Raven be the lead best friend & giving advice would make the movie A LOT more interesting.
All I can hope for is that Princess Diaries 3 gives us Michael and Mia as endgame! 💖🥺

Disney being tidy, and clean, with no scandals and no se***al harassment jobs for teens and adults, found out about Heather Matarazzo's sexual identity and instead of giving her praise and an excellent script they used her as a prop, exactly as you put it, an extra for "best friend".
I would not have minded if Heather as Lily was the voice of reason and she'd said "No. It's not a good idea it could be a trap." Nooo. Are you out of your mind! Wear something that reflects you!" Raven Symone as a second supporting actress [best friend].
I used to watch the first movie quite often until it wouldn't play anymore. Ha! ha! Then watched the second movie and I didn't like it. Yes, Raven Symone and Julie Andrews made it great. But the way Disney treats its stars so badly ...

3) Lilly and Mia drifted apart and do that thing about twice a year where one replies to the other's Instagram story and end up chatting for a bit and make plans but cancel last minute

6) I think a great third movie would include Michael and Nicholas, but also probably something close to the books because while I've never read them, I do know how annoying it is when the movies are nothing like the books and I feel kinda bad for fans of the books because I know she ends up with Michael in the books

I haven't watched the second movie but rewatching it now that I'm older it turned from Princess Diaries to Princess Diarrhoeas real fast seeing how problematic most of the people Mia was supposed to be able to rely on be so bad to her. And her "Bestie" girlllll. If I were mia I would have dumped her the moment I see any funny behaviour from her.

For all those talking about the Michael guy. When you're a teen in high school, for most people today, you're just a child. Mia ended up in a world and responsibilities much different from her high school world.
She needs someone by her side not just for puppy love, but to fulfill the duties she now has as an adult and ruler, and who could best help her suit a role of royal life, as a teammate. She is new to the place she will rule, so she would need someone to bolster her legitimacy to that throne, a person at least raised in said country. Why would she choose someone else who also has no idea that life there? To make her feel even more like an outsider. At least one of the two should be Genovian, or her hold on the throne would be weak and may seem illegitimate by some. Europeans have had revolutions and toppled thrones over legitimacy. Perhaps the people would whisper "we are being ruled by Americans", were she to have ended up dragging Michael to Genovia.
As Tom Hughes says in an interview about Queen Victoria, "These aren't just two young people falling in love, this is the queen of [england] choosing a suitor, and there's a hell of a lot of responsibility in that."
So I like that they took the realistic route vs the book route😄 Makes it much more interesting, more appealing to a wider audience. It was fun to seem them even adding characters from real life, like the pic of Prince William 🙌
But the Chris dynamic was 👎 not because of Chris Pine the actor. But too bad she ended up smitten with that kind of toxic situationship, was really disappointed she didn't choose someone as grounded as Andrew Jacoby, who was emotionally available and vulnerable, and genuinely helpful.

If there is a Princess Diaries 3 I think it would have to center around Julie Andrews’s character’s death if she doesn’t want to be in it or kicks the bucket. Another idea would be it following the story of her daughter who wants to a more normal life & be out of the spotlight.

Maybe the 3rd issue could be a sad one reflecting how awful politics are and certain issues should be talked about, maybe have grandma pass away. And we move towards the future generations taking over the thrown meaning she had some kids with her husband. Specifically 3 kids 1 boy and 2 girls but the son does not want the crown and wants to live a normal life.

Mia finding out she has a biracial half sister and hoping getting back together with Micheal in the book she and Micheal have twins named Frank (After he dies of a heart attack. They have a daughter named Elizabeth(after one of her dad”s brief relationships but Mia never meet her. I feel sorry for her daughter because she will never meet Elizabeth because she is dead. She can tell stories about Frank to Frank JR but not. To Elizabeth I think Eliza whorls have been a good influence on Mia in the books if they met. I also think Helen and Elizabeth would also have been friends not just because they got pregnant by the same guy for R so that they don’t want to marry same guy because they both refused their his proposal.

You can’t really expect for someone to behave the same they did as a teenager than as an adult, Lilly was like 15 years old or maybe 14 or 16 since it’s given she was a sophomore (like Mía, 15 years old to 16 in the first movie) and then the second one happens 5 years later, Mía’s 21 and so Lilly is also 21 or maybe 22, so, what you said there doesn’t really make that much sense, people grow up.
