  • In this webinar, a University of Michigan student team presents their nutrient reduction projects database, developed in partnership with the University of Michigan Water Center. The project aims to improve transparency and collaboration around nutrient reduction efforts in Michigan's Western Lake Erie Basin by providing an interactive platform where users can explore ongoing projects and their locations.
The database was developed in response to an advisory group identifying a lack of public information and cohesion in nutrient reduction efforts. By creating a survey and transforming it into a web map, the team gathered key data to help stakeholders-municipalities, conservation groups, researchers, and others-engage with these vital efforts. The survey, collected using ArcGIS Survey123, covers a range of projects, including farmer-led conservation and wetland restoration.
Throughout the project, the team conducted outreach and gathered survey responses from various initiatives, culminating in the development of a prototype web map. This interactive platform will help users locate, categorize, and collaborate on nutrient reduction projects, ultimately supporting long-term solutions for Lake Erie's health.
