  • Catching a 24+ inch trout is no easy task, especially a 24+ inch wild trout. So when my brother sent me the message saying he had caught a gigantic 24+ inch wild brown trout I was shocked and happy. I hope you guys enjoy this awesome video. Don't forget to share it with your friends and family!

    Wow! Nice catch!
    I am 13 and I love freshwater fishing too!
    I have never caught a brown trout that big, but I have caught sea trouts about that size or bigger.
    Here in Norway there are many lakes that has giant trouts, but I have never got the chance to fish there.
    Now it's breeding season for trouts and it's easier to catch them when they are in rivers.
    Usually when I catch a trout or pike I eat it, but if the fish is small, I let it go.
    I love your videos!

    Nice trout, has it lived in that river all the time or did he visit sea/lake? Fishing for sea trout from a river is definitely very difficult and fun. This summer i managed to hook 8 trouts. First 7 of them were all 24-33 inches long and i lost all of them. The 8th fish i managed to net and it was the smallest, 24 inch but still my record fish. The bigger fish can be extremely hard to control, they actually do whatever they want. One fish did over 20 jumps in less than 10 minutes and he wasnt even slighly tired when he came off. He was about 27 inches long, water temp was 78. I thought trouts die in that temp but no. Even atlantic salmon wont give me the same kick and adrenaline rush that these sea trouts do.

    You need to get a tape to measure your fish. I have the same net and its 20" long ways. It's a very nice 18" brown. No way its 26". Out here in Montana it's hard to fit a 20+ fish in a net that size. The big boys over 22" are too heavy to lift into a net even with a 6 weight rod when you're alone. You have to beach them or tail them like steelhead. A 2 foot pig will run 60 feet in a second or two. Your fish didn't even run 20 feet. He should have been able to run under the log easy if he was 26" . Good fish for a small creek though. I have enjoyed your other videos.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't normally respond to people telling us our fish aren't very large but since you attempted to use a decent argument I'll give you an answer. First of all the net is a pig series net by catch cam nets (just so you can look it up) and the dimensions of the net are 16" by 22". So it can (with ease) hold trout into the 30 inch range (been tested on the white river in Arkansas). Second of all my brother is using a 7 wt rod in this video and has plenty of trouble dealing with the fish. Another thing to remember is when you hook a big fish in a small creek it has no where to run so they (in my experience) attempt to dog you under trees/under cut banks. I have fished out west a few times and I know most of the places you catch 2 foot long trout is large rivers with swift current where the fish are crazy strong. These fish just aren't like that. Having said all of this I'm glad you have enjoyed the videos. My biggest regret was not leaving the measurement of the 26 inch fish in the video. LESSON LEARNED. Tight lines.

    Years ago as I was getting my Walleye skills honed we had some serious flooding in New Jersey and given the size of the rivers and canals I had every reason to believe my haunts had been demolished. To my surprise the WALLEYE made it through the flooding. It was very close to the lower reaches of the Delaware and Raritan River system. I was absolutely FLOORED. Bound Brook New Jersey was almost a complete loss. I’ve also heard rumors of Sea Run Browns in the area but you might as well be asking for directions to the Lost Dutchman mine. I can’t get the locals to choke up some information on them. I’m CAR = Catch and release for decades. I recently modded myself two BFS rigs (4lb test) and I can’t wait to test them out.

    I've just started creek fishing for wild browns recently and have a few questions for you. First of all how do you know which creeks have brownies in them? Just fish them and see? Second, what are characteristics you look for in a creek that let you know there could be brown trout living in them? Third, What state are you in? I'm in northern Pennsylvania and I creek fish for for pike often and never hook into any brown trout but i know they are around i just don't know what creeks to try. And last what would be a "search bait" you would reccomend to try and locate some? Any help would be great!

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep I learn what creeks have browns by hours and hours of searching or some generous people. For trout you need cold, oxygenated water with good flow and cover. I fish mostly in WV but I know for a fact PA has some outstanding brown trout fishing. A search bait for spinning rod would be either a spinner or jerk bait, if you're talking fly rod then I would go with something like a wooly bugger. Hope this helps!

    There is a terrible drought in all of the south western states. I live in northern New Mexico and the river that runs through the town dried up and all the rainbows died. The only place I can fish in the river is upstream, and even then it's not fun because the fish can easily see you in the low water conditions. The only time it is nice is during the spring when all of the snow water comes down from Colorado. But in the summer it is dried up to mud.

    • @ericharvey3698
      @ericharvey3698 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't necessarily say they are equivalent to stocked trout as most of the fish in those streams rely on natural food and got started on natural food but there are some fish that live in those holes nearly all the time that have grown big on people feeding them. A few of them are caught quite regularly I'm pretty sure the second one in the video has been caught a few times by different people that I've seen. The stream could definitely support big trout without people feeding them as it has a 'unique' source of fertilizer for the bugs/forage so to say and plenty of cold water that has a good ph but when fish are getting fed they will usually stay in the same spot for an easy meal, can't blame them really.

    GREAT FISH!!! What a killer trout!!! My only question is, why was the trout so casual about being caught? It almost looks like he was half asleep. Especially for a "wild trout." I mean, sure, a hatchery or stocked trout might not have such an inate instinct for surviaval, but you would think a TANK like that would be going nuts at being hooked and reeled in. Just the same, SWEET catch!!!

      A lot of the browns in the same creek I've caught barely fight they usually just kind of roll around sometimes right to you. The rainbows fight great though and I have caught a couple big browns that did fight good. It's almost to easy I've actually lost a really nice brown there because it rolled right to my buddy and when he netted it the fish had a ton of energy all of a sudden and flopped right out of his net.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eric Harvey yeah you’ve got to watch them. Any fish you catch anywhere is annoying to deal with if they haven’t expended their energy before they hit the net.

    • @hardmanfishing

      I'm not sure what you mean by packfish.. but these trout are not native. They were actually bought to America from Germany a long time ago. Now they breed and reproduce naturally in the creeks and rivers.

    What weight of fly rod is a great trout rod

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 wt is a great all around fly rod. If you're brookie fishing I'd suggest a 3 wt or less, if you're going for giants I'd suggest a 6 to 8 wt. But a 5 wt is right in the middle and you can do almost anything with it. Hope this helps!

    In Poland we have period of protection for Brown trout, since 1st september to the end of the year. In some rivers season starts at 1st Ferbuary.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      martolineo90 yessir that makes sense! That’s when they spawn (or somewhere in that time frame). We take special can in making sure they aren’t spawning when we fish. And if we see them spawning we stop fishing for a month or so. The weird weather has pushed back the spawn I believe because there is no sign of it yet. Thanks for watching!
