I find that proposition a double-edged sword. The disconnection from the creative process _can_ do what he's proposing, but a lack of attempting to empathize with the creative process or its intentions can leave you very ignorant about "the point" and leave you in a position where your criticisms don't have relevant substance beyond the implication that you don't like the work.

I'm sad April got this treatment.... T_T I loved her in the original comics (Mirage), and in the 2000's series. I loved her in IDW too, at least initially.
But sadly, this happened in the last show the TMNT got, in the ROTMNT(2018) cartoon series as well.
Idk why hollywood hates readheads.... In that show she was turned into Africanamerican, and it seems like they stuck with the idea. Also, in that show they cast an African American voice actor as Raph, so they had to make him the leader too, instead of Leo... ;P

I'm old enough to remember TMNT when it was called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK, when the BBC still had some prudish sensibilities, but still made quality programmes.
If April O'Neil is that big and never do cardio her in whole life, she won't be able to run away from the bad guys chasing after her.

I just saw TMNT. Was very anxious about it because of the trailer, and because of new April (really liked the old one). I was going to walk out of it with my kid if mine, and your expectactions were true... But the movie was rral good to watch, and everything was fitting so nicely. I hope it's not just polish dubbing, and English speaking part of the world can enjoy it too.

I will admit that April has been getting younger and younger in design over time. The animated series from the 2000s I think on stuff like nickelodeon and cartoon network definitely had her as more of a teenager, being more at a relatable age to the turtles. I personally didn't have any issues with it, it gives a bit of a human bridge into the turtle's lives and experiences. Side note, Splinter in that show was awesome
She's not supposed to be a relatable age to the turtles. She's supposed to be a little older, as are almost ALL the other characters so that the "teenage" aspect is reserved for the main characters. There are plenty of other mutants, ninjas, and even a couple of turtles. The teenage part is what makes them unique.
They had the perfect opportunity, here - introduce a new character who is of the same age as the turtles - have her be April's intern or something - maybe she demonstrates her trustworthiness early on, and April brings her into the turtles' circle.
But they didn't need a new character, they have Angel from the 2003 show. She's heavily implied to be Black-Latino and is teen girl who is street savvy.

I dont have a problem with black april. Rise had a black April and shes honestly up there with my favorite characters of all time. Her character development and the fact that they didnt make her a mary sue really let you connect with her character.
I loved April in the original Mirage comics, and in the 2000's TMNT series. She was pretty, and smart, but at the same time, she was feminine. Originally, she was a big "sister" figure to the turtles.
The mob who keeps bitching about her being sexualized, should know, she wasn't originally. She wasn't a romantic interest of any of the turtles, and not even Casey"s for a while.
She was a good, loyal friend in the original (mirage) comics.

Just took my nephew to see the movie today. Although I don't like how they changed April O'Neil compared to the 90's shows, April was black in the 80's comics. She was a light-skinned black woman with curly black hair but then was changed to a red headed white woman. Overall the movie was pretty good and had a good message behind it. The art and animation was great too.
My boyfriend is a fan of TMNT. He saw the original cartoon when we as a kid. The ruin trailer ruined TMNT for him. He lost faith in Hollywood because they kept ruining his childhood and I honestly feel the same way. Hollywood has ruined our childhoods 😢

I can't believe no one has ever tried to take the original Eastman & Laird noir-esque incarnation of the Turtles and run with it. Something like the Sin City adaption (which I thought was really really good). A dark, gritty, Turtles with an R-rating, and leaning WAAAAAAY into the classic 1980's Ninja movie vibe would be friggin' amazing.

The TV show has been rebooted 3 times since the late 80s, early 90s original show. And there have been 3 rebooted films. The target audience isn't 30-45 year olds (like myself) but to get a new generation into it. But if my gen wants to watch it then that's a bonus. But I'm more worried about the people who made it. Rogen's reputation when it comes to animation is bleak. Didn't a ton of animators have to bring him to court because he didn't pay them for Sausage Party.

I had an interesting reaction when you said "Seth Rogan". I Knew that name, well, I had heard it before. So I had a look at his work, IMDB, and found I had not been interested in any of his previous live acting work. Some of the animated works I have watched. And some I liked, but not because of him. Not sure how well this latest endevour will go.
I remember fondly the 2003 TMNT which were badass and April was also a helpful character. I can't imagine this being good at all.

The last time I watched the OG turtles was way back when it was new, but if I remember correctly, April was a rather professional reporter in the sense she wanted to get things done, find the truth, would do the work others didn't want to do (though I could be remembering all wrong). Her "good looks" were kind of a result of her ability to put in hard work and take care of herself.
But this character? Looks like an absolute slob which makes me think they probably do some sloppy work/reporting and wouldn't be able to keep pace with the turtles, which means they kind of killed her character.
That, and, you know, news company do tend to put attractive people in front of the camera because it makes money, so it makes sense from a world building perspective to have your reporter "hot".

she's exactly like the original.. I mean remember how april oniel was only able to run 5 steps and then was out of breath and the turtles had to come save her, and then after she introduced them to pizza.

Everything today places something like this in it to cover for shitty acting and writing, so when people see THIS and raise an eyebrow they can cry "haters" and "phobias". Pretty sure you have an aluminum hat. You get a one minute and fifty four second trailer, and you take a race swapped character who was in it for only four seconds and instantly think this movie is gonna be dog water. Listen, I understand where you’re coming from. I hate movies saturated in woke, too. It’s really annoying, especially when you just want to watch a good movie. But one race swapped character isn’t gonna make me stomp my feet in protest at a movie with beautiful visuals, teenage voice actors who actually sound good (Donnie’s gonna take some getting used to), and freaking Jackie Chan as Master Splinter. Don’t get me wrong, I have my fair share of skepticisms. I was a bit iffy when I found out Seth Rogen was gonna be involved with this movie. But guess what? He was involved in Invincible. He produced and wrote a few episodes. And you know what? That show was amazing. So amazing it got a Drinker Recommends, despite the fact they race swapped and ruined the character of Amber. If April’s personality in TMNTMM ends up like Velma or Amber you have the right to object against that, but it’s too early to start calling accusations. We’re gonna get more trailers soon with more scenes of April, and then we can see if she’s gonna be the April we know and love who has just been altered visually, or if they assassinate the character. If you wanna stay cynical I won’t judge you, but don’t brand anyone as a “woke idiot” for being excited for this film. And remember, Nick Fury was white in the comics and they decided to race swap him in Iron Man. Today Samuel L. Jackson is considered to be the definitive Nick Fury.

I have noticed that it still seems to be socially acceptable to mock the Irish in the USA. At Disney land/world the Dapper Dan's did a performance involving a series of Irish jokes (third party story). It just shocks me.

I laughed out loud when I saw the new April. I am absolutely going to gather up the kids, pile them into my car, drive a half-hour, find a parking spot not too far from the cinema and spend money on pop-corn and fizzy drinks to see this.

Bay's Turtle movies were fine. The first one was kind of bad, but the second one was a big improvement. I feel like the second one really nailed the tone, it felt almost like classic TMNT.
