  • Parking lot sessions are exactly what they sound like: see a decent parking lot with a cool view, skate it, film it, post it. This one takes place at Liberty Park in Salt Lake. City parks are essentially just huge parking lots with a bunch of space between the cars, right?

I lovee how people are only starting to look back to see who's there and Joey is already in front of them. That's the SPEED!

Would like to see you skate that fine technique in a 4x80 Freeskate of your choice.
    Just for fun.

I am at the opposite extreme of you, as far as skating skills go. I just started 3 weeks ago. The biggest problem I have is with pain in 1) soles of my feet; 2) outside of my shins. Any thoughts on what causes this pain? Thanks for the videos.

soles because the arches of your boots are too high or too low for you, assuming your boot isn't new. Shins because you're too far back on your heals, or your frame is not placed correctly, or your boot is too big. Hard to tell without seeing you skating. good luck

I have a pair of powerslide marathons. How difficult would it be to transition to speed skates that are like that? Less support is intimidating.

    • @JoeyMantiaOfficial

if you try to go to a crappy boot that doesn't fit well, you will probably not enjoy it at all. If you transitioned with good equipment for you, i think you would find some ability to improve your speed pretty easily

Those skates (Bont?) are a work of art. But If I were to try to use them the results would be ugly: I’m a good advanced skater but don’t have the balance, technique or ankle strength for those beauties. Tall boots are my friends.

Try a balance board or a BOSO for a few minutes every day (e.g. while brushing teeth) for a few months, should you ever (before) venture into lower skates. Start with semirace type hard boots, and work your way down (and don't put bigger wheels on at the same time). Strenght is key and patience is a virtue?

You might be surprised, Bont seems to be shifting away from the super low cut speed skates and back to a more traditional type, higher cut boot, which for someone like me who has really boney, high ankles, is a welcomed change
