"The People Under the Stairs" annoyed the hell out if me. I definitely concur with Roger on "Evil Dead 2" - lots of fun.

Even though they takes shots at each other, I sensed no sarcasm when Roger said to Gene "Some of the critics are wrong, you're undoubtedly right" which seemed to me like a sincere compliment that was nice to hear.

I would go a step further, I think Evil Dead 2 was the best film of 1987...It's a masterpiece. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but in its own way, perfect.

I remember going to see Blind Fury because I had read a John Saul book called Comes the Blind Fury. I thought it was the film version of that book. Instead of getting a story about a little blind girl who 100 years earlier than today, had been tormented by her classmates until she took a tumble from a cliff and died shrieking her rage, but then 100 years later, in the present day, a young girl comes from Boston to join a new school, but the kids there don't like her because she is new. At first she has no friends, but then one misty day, a hand reaches out, and the ghost of the little girl from 100 years ago comes to her. Promising her friendship, but with that friendship comes rage. Rage that the ghost turns against those who hate the new little girl, I got a film about a blind guy who can use swords and kung fu. I was disappointed--yes, I like John Saul books, especially God Project--but the film was kind of good anyway.

I did like Let it Ride. A fantasy where a loser gambler has a perfect day. I appreciated its view of gambling that even though his supposed buddies saw the streak he was on, they just could not change their loser ways and bet with him, instead relying on the same loser hunches that the main character always had before one magic day. I especially appreciated when he started winning real money, they kind of turned on him and got resentful. Not only a feel good fantasy but also had kind of a "message" that I appreciated.

8:14 Because Sam Raimi's influence is everywhere!
13:39 Not Kung Fu. More like something resembling Kobudo (except that's a Japanese term). Some call it "American Zatoichi." Rich from Red Letter Media has called it that, but I don't know if he's the one who coined that nickname.

I LOVE BLIND FURY! it's very cheesy and over the top AT TIMES, but it definitely delivered, for me, on action and an emotional roller coaster ride! I'm of 2 minds about the fact that a reboot of it might be a great idea or not Like imagine Keanu reeves Or Henry cavill playing the main part? That'd be pretty cool Also imagine if Rutger Howard had never played the part...I bet Christopher Lambert would have been a great choice! He already did two swords related projects: all the highlanders and an entertaining movie, the hunted! Also: JCVD or S. SEAGAL could've been great too, Brandon Lee, David carridine! EVEN....NIC CAGEEEE!!!

I remember the original broadcast of this episode and I STILL disagree with them on Tremors. Unwatchable. Let It Ride was GREAT. Evil Dead 2 good choice. I rented People Under the Stairs on this recommendation but it was pure CRAP. Thanks a lot Gene!!!

Woa i had no idea about that movie let it ride, I'm definitely gonna check it out, even though, all gambling movies, at some point, give me an awful sinking/cringe feeling when said gambler starts making choices that we know will lead to unfortunate, low results, bc, as a gambler myself, i totally can empathize/sympathise, etc with the highs and lowsss !!!! Everyone get what I'm saying?! 😎😇🤔🤗😋😁 let me know your thoughts, either way thanks and good luck to us all !!!

i saw this episode the week it was new and it wasnt exactly how i remembered it. but basically yes and people under the stairs i had already seen and was shocked anyone wouldve liked it. i di like it but it also at being 12 uyears old made me feel kinda gross. i also saw popcorn the remake phantom of the opera and tales from the darkside the movie in the same movie place about the same time i think. also army of darkness yes good time for me.. being about that age 11 or 12 maybe and being able to yknow go in by myself or with a friend my age. that sequel to bill and ted was kinda dark wasnt it. the bogus one not the newest which i havent watched.

_Tremors?_ embarrassed to say I like? _Evil Dead II???_ that's one of the best-loved horror movies ever made. and one of the best loved COMEDIES ever made.
however, _Earths Girls Are Easy_ is, uh, embarrassing. yeah.

Roger recommends what is considered one of the most classic horror movies ever, Evil Dead 2. And then Gene comes in and says, "I can do you one better" and recommends the generally reviled people under the stairs 🤣

  • @bobspence5322
    @bobspence5322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

the funny thing is they liked evil dead 2 but didnt recommend army of darkness. i think aod was fun but wasnt the movie i wanted.if it had been more serious and picked up the horror side of the prior films in the middle ages THAT wouldve been a thriller to watch but they cheesed it.. it is funny and i liked it better as time went by still we will never know what ed3 could have been and ED2 as a stand alone in that series is great.

"Tremors" is NOT a guilty pleasure; it is a solid, extremely well made creature feature. I don't think "Evil Dead 2" belongs on this list either. Or "Let it Ride." "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" is a piece of crap, though--a blatant "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" rip-off.

    • @earshoes3282

Tremors is a gem. A solid, purpose built, genuinely quirky, funny "horror" movie with some very engaging characters and warm, feel good moments.
I watched it with my family last night and initially wondered if I could really sit through it again after having seeing it several times already. It hooks you in like a Graboid and won't let you go til the end.
Not an ounce of flab on this movie, I'm totally unembarrassed about loving it.
