might want to do a new video on best starter locations (herbie island, south inlet, western beach, etc) for people new to the game to set up a beginner base till they can move to some of the better ones (pve, pvp or single player)
You didn't include the other island! There's a tiny island in the bottom right. It is really good for starters on single player or PVE. There's a lot of metal on the cliff, tonnes of parasaurs and other good starter dinosaurs, for meat and hide. Lots of building space and resources. Highly recommend to starters! Can get there around lvl 17 when you have crafted a raft.
+GTJack3d The hidden lake is completely takeable. The alpha tribe on server 218 has taken over it completely and there are so many turrets/defenses that you cannot access it. I haven't seen the hidden lake in so long I forgot what it looks like, thanks for the video!
Great vid GTjacked Great video, my tribe actually has a spot just north of your No.4 location in the video (scroll to 3:52 and it's dead ahead in that direction over the forest right next to the volcano. We built right between the northern river turn at the foot of the volcano (the River that goes has 5 waterfalls, it's a brilliant spot with easy access to pretty much everything and the great thing is it's not an obvious spot, it's well hidden from all angles as the ground dips in and is surround by high Forrest and natural cliffs and it's just enough out the way of the main traffic routes where Location 4 is in the video. Check the location out its an interesting spot.
The only issue I see with the first one in the tundra is that right to the left of that, on that mountain, a giga spawns. It'd be great for not having to walk it home, but I'd be so nervous having one right outside the base! But, I do like the little hidden vault place. :D
Spot number 2 is where I spotted a female 120 Rex that we ended up taming near that location. The location we tamed her in was east of there in the ruins surrounded by three high rocks in a circle that we call Rexhenge. This was the second Rex we have tamed there so far.

Is it lame to comment on such an old vid? ;-) I would hate to have a base in the snow biome because brrrr, but I can fully agree with the other locations! Since I hate people (lol) I play single player and for that and PVE these spots are just fine. I have a small outpost at the hidden lake, it's really great but you get visited by Alpha Raptors from time to time (they can fall down the cliffs, so blocking the entrances does not mean 100% security) and I have 2 Alpha Carnos nearby. But still a great spot. The first time I saw the huge rockpillar in the river I wanted to build on there! Just because it's cool. Haven't done so though, or not yet. The spot next to the swamp and Redwood is really beautiful, I was almost angry that I already built my (huge) base somewhere else when I realised how pretty (and convenient) it is, weeeeeell until I saw the Rex and two Alpha Rexes not too far away. Now I'm glad I didn't. My base is on Weathertop because I just value a predator-free spot over closeness to ressources. I can leave my Dinos standing around with zero protection and they are perfectly safe xD Herbivore Island is safe too but I personally don't like it bc it's too far away from everything. Weathertop is still kinda close to spots like the Redwood and the Volcano. SORRY FOR THE LONG TEXT, I JUST LOVE TO TALK ABOUT ARK *-*
One of my favorite spots (I'm working on a base there right now, making it out of metal) is that peninsula with the huge rock on it just south of Whitesky. However, due to how many dangerous creatures spawn there, it's not a good starter location. Good for XP farming with Rexes and such, though.
I know a good base location he didn't mention. It's at the peninsula in West 3. At the very end of it there is basically a triple layer base location right at water and close to swamp,red wood,volcano,and arctic. So if your a big tribe you can make a massive base there.
I putted my base in the southern islets. The is lots of unbreakable rocks, but my dinos managed to survive here. However I would only recommend putting your base there if your in single player
My favorite PVE location is the plateau on the west coast just south of ICE. Fast flight to the volcano, fast flight to redwood for sap, fast flight to oil, pearls, and a place i call "party beach" (because theres always a party going on there) with a high spawn rate of alphas for XP.
I personally like the tapejara if it has high speed, stamina and weight because you can sit people in the back and just rain down tranqs on anything you want
Older video. But it still got you a like and SUB! New to Ark, an old man playing PvE solo. Might get a server. Was looking for a good spot for me and my Dino's. Most are hard to block off due to terrain. But man, that No. 1 spot is awesome. I'm trying to stay away from what a lot of people do when they pen them up. They line them up nice and straight at their base. I want them all wandering, except either male or female of each species type will not be allowed to wander and mate to keep the surprise population down, yet giving it that full on exibit feel. I think I'd kill most of my tames before trying to move them that far.
the south east island is definitely the best spot me and some friend built behemoth gates all the way around it and made the entire island into a fortress
You missed a spot,its a waterfall but at the top of it is a blue and green water and a small island in the middle of it the place is pretty big and is great for finding polymer creatures
I had a base once, the area only spawned one Spino, two Brontos, one Brachi, one Sabertooth, two Anklys, and a bird right on top of my base. No big deal 😉

Pro tip; every single location mentioned here are the first ones to go as soon as a server goes live, don't bother looking they are all taken. If you want to make a video about locations you need to think outside the box.
Question: How much or little viable & good or not so good an idea is it to build a home in one of the Progress Caves? Or is it even possible to do? I like Underground Bases. :)
Oh wow... I didn't know that. Fortunately for me i'm playing a Private Server set to PvE with known buds & acquaintances in Co-Op style. I'd also do this for my SP Game too if it was actually possible for me to SP Ark... i'm woefully afflicted with the "WorldEnd Crash" or some variant of it & I found the Troubleshooting steps about it on the Ark Forums but alas, no go & they didn't resolve it, so SP is unavailable to me. I'm new to the game ish at around level 60 now. But wanting to set up a bigger main base. Was thinking of hidden lake but I worry about aquatic dinos and dinos falling in?

For my main base I'm trying to find a place but it's flat so I can make the bass large enough for plenty of tamed creatures but I also wanted to be near the water so I can build a sort of Harbor for any water creatures I have and a metal perimeter wall with spikes to protect all my building from any high-level threats. Any suggestions?
Me and my friends built a base in the hidden lake we have tamed some creatures started a farm and have the ability to make simple guns, we have 2 carnos now, 1 dilo, 1 iguanaodon, a pteranodon, that pig like creature (forgot what it was called) thats it for dinos this is a private server.
honestly surprised no herbivore island on the list although not to good for taming and certain resources its pretty easy to defend on pvp and even easier on pve due to only a meg in the small basin in the center of it

If you move to the ice island, you would definitely get raided because of penguin spawns.

Carnivore island is a great location. My friends and I use it all the time. We find u need to have the materials already made to live there

It is viable if you have aloooot of resources and turrets. Any structure in caves takes 6x damage from explosives.

I made a base on the number 2 spot and since I didn’t want to make a stairway for stuff like Rex’s, gigas and titans I just found eggs it’s way easier
East location there’s a hidden lake if u have 2 turtles and a raptor u can wipe the beaver and stuff there and take a lot of mats
