I learned to drive in one of these. In Mexico it was called the Dodge Dart. It was 1980. It had square headlights, but in every other way it is the same as the model you describe. Thank you very much for reminding me. I still miss that car. Greetings from Mexico.
Thank you for sharing your story. I had one like that a while back - US Spec, not Mexican Spec, but a very similar car to yours. Here is a video of the car that was made shortly after I sold it. th-cam.com/video/wGnMVijx5GE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=evQR7e6ZLifPq40P ¡Muchas Gracias and Buenos Dias!
Great ! My parents drove one of these back in the day a 1976 Dodge Aspen sedan . These 1978 Aspen were certainly better compared to the earlier versions . I will not hesitate to get a late model Aspen/Volare down the road .
In 1998 i bought a 2 door 78 Dodge Aspen Special Edition from the original owner ( same color combo as this 1) Barely 30000 miles. Parked under ground since new. Was my Sunday driver. 2 years later i was moving over 1000 miles away. Made my mechanic promise me it would make it. After 400 miles on the road i pulled into a rest stop for food. when i put it in park that car was grumbling. Sounded like "i want more. Lets go"
Thanks for sharing! Very nice Aspen. I have a 77 Aspen with a slant 6, manual transmission (3 on the tree), manual steering and brakes too. It's almost as clean as yours with 86K. No inner fender guards on mine. It does have the hood release under the dash though. It's a great running reliable car, and it gets 23mpg.
Thanks for sharing. I have seen a lot of F bodies in my day and most I have witnessed had the power steering and brakes option. I have never seen one with manual steering. Of coruse back then you could still order one from the dealer with most any option configuration you wanted. I also have never seen one with a 3 on the tree manual transmission, I hve seen the manual 3 and OD 3 on the floor, but never on the column. You have a special vehicle there that is a rarer sight then most F bodies that have survived. In 1976 my parents bought a new Plymouth Volaré (same as the Dodge Aspen ) 4-door with 225 slant-6 automatic. In 1977 I had my 16th birthday and got my license to drive, and I drove that Volaré many times. The slant-6 was so choked with emissions band-aids it would stall at red light stops, and wheezed to slowly reach 55. There were numerous recalls and dealer visits to overcome the stalling. I learned that a neutral drop at about 3000 rpm would result in a "burnout" for a few seconds. Chrysler made some tough automatics. They sold it after about 2 years and bought an even less exciting Plymouth Horizon.
That's great that you have put the time and effort on this old lady .. keep the great job and save for ever 🙏. My self I have the 76 Volare slant 6 & my father the 68 Valiant.
Worked at a Chrysler assembly plant building these. Spent some time"in the pit" underneath these, so, looks familiar. Dual exhaust were strange, two long exhaust pipes joined in front of rear axle into one very large tail;pipe.
Yes, those Original E58 Engines had a Rear Factory Y pipe. Most are gone, and I don't know that I have ever seen an original one that survived without some muffler shop hackery.

Very nice car you dont see them any more I am sure you sold that one fast
We had these for driver's Ed in high school. The instructor would let everyone else drive first. Then, when we were late, I got to drive!

Do you still have the car
Yes sure do.
What? No slant six? Seriously, this is a great car. I am so jealous.
Not on this one, but I have plenty of slant 6's elsewhere.
Hey I’m wondering if it’s all original, rusted or ever been painted ????????
Original paint from 1978 No repairs that I could ever detect.
Me gusta el carro
Never heard of it
It's a Chrysler product .. Dodge & Plymouth carry them back then. Take a look on the Valiant from the 50s 👍
I have a wheel cover for that in my garage.
right rear marker light out
It's overheating it shouldn't go past the second line on gauge
