Everything about this movie is perfect. As a former infantryman, they got the gripes and the moaning from the troops down pat. My favorite was when Joe had everyone lined up and was berating them for threatening to kill the officers, having crabs and getting drunk. It was like my old unit
There's a lot wrong with this movie. It has a huge number of flaws and issues in technicalities, continuity, editing, and production. And despite all of that, it remains my all time favourite movie.
"See, when we go into battle man, we like to play music very loud, It calms the boys. Heh heh, and scares the hell out of the Germans." (Off the top of my head)
In March 1945 Major General Maurice Rose facing two tiger tanks and a German soldier sitting in the hatch holding an MP 40 reached for his pistol belt almost certainly to drop his weapon but the tank soldier seen it as him reaching for his gun and shot him dead. Even an American inquiry blamed the fog of war rather than the German soldier for his death.
One of the best parts of the movie!. All for the love of sunshine and I've been working on the railroad are the best songs in my mind today at 68years old!.
I was on the floor laughing when "I've been working on the railroad" began to play. They definitely did some work on that railroad yard to improve the view and let more sunshine in. Absolutely one of my favorite movies. Don Rickles attended a roast of Clint Eastwood in 2000 in which he said, "Some friend you are, Clint. We made one movie together and then you don't contact me for thirty years!"
I met the chap who wrote this around 25 years or so ago. He lived in London and I was there to film him for a documentary about a BBC production he had also written. He also wrote the Italian Job. He was such a down to earth chap.
The best war movie ever. Tremendous cast and action. Caroll OCconner around the radio listening to the (game) battle is brilliant. Great movie, i'll watch it any time it's on.
😎👍Kelly's Heros is most truly definitely one of my all time favorite WW2 movies ever made with a truly very spectacular all star cast indeed!👌; And I myself own this fabulously wonderful movie on DVD as well!😉.
This movie was almost perfect. Cast, the plot to go steal gold, behind enemy lines. Even the banter back and forth between the actors. A perfect adventure flick.
One of the greatest collections of (virtually unknown at the time) funny men in movie history led by a young Don Rickles. Donald Sutherland (RIP) was perfect as Oddball! Telly Savalas as Joe is frosting on the cake!
Absolute classic and one of my favorite films, would love to get it in 4K. So many well scripted lines; the one that stands out for me is, when Kelly approaches Mulligan (George Savalas) about doing a artillery/mortar drop without authorization, and hands him a gold bar. Kelly says “can you do it?”… mulligan says “Sure … why?”. Kelly responds annoyed … “what do you mean why?”…. Mulligan (gazing into the gold bar) “… why not!!!”. Classic!!
This is one of the best war movies of all time and it was a comedy at the same time! Plus throw in the cast of characters! Another testament to it's greatness is it never gets old. Some of these scenes still will get me to laugh out loud to this day!
I love these old movies with the giant casts of actual movie stars back when we still had some. Look at the cast of "A Bridge Too Far." Redford, Caan, Connery, O'Neal, Caine, Hackman, Hopkins and it goes on.
Well, maybe you Non-Noo-Yawkers, should try a Garbage-Pizza, Sometime! (My preference, is "hold the Mushrooms!")[I don't like stuff called a 'Fungus', especially if it's on my feet!]
Telly’s voice and facial change always cracked me up. “Tigers? Where the hell the tigers come from?” It’s up there with Sutherlands “I only ride them,I don’t know what makes them go.” Now I wish there was a 4K for this film.
@@alpardo4124 Except for Archie Bunker on TV, I think this was his funniest role. The casting director for this film should have received an Oscar. Every actor was just perfect for their part.
What makes this film even better is that, all things considered, this film is very historically accurate (in terms of gear, scenes, uniforms, and tactics). A truly superb film with an excellent cast demonstrating great acting, on-point comedy and action and a great story.
Here are couple of fun facts of Kelly's Heroes (believe it or not): 1. The movie was filmed in Yugoslavia; 2. The Tiger Tank was a rebuilt T-34 (that was uses in mentioned movie) for filming Yugoslav war movies (some call it partisan movies). Even some rumors are that the mentioned rebuilt T-34 into Tiger tank was also used when filming movie Saving Private Ryan; 3. When was movie Kelly's Heroes was filming, the American movie crew also was working along with Yugoslav movie crew when filming movie The Battle For River Neretva (and also they used mentioned rebuilt Tiger tank); 4. The plane on 3:15 that is potraying to be Texan fighter is a Yugoslav Soko 522 plane (one of these Yugoslav airplanes is also somewhere in USA, by one collector). Soko 522 was mostly imitating the German Focke Wulf 190 in Yugoslav war movies; 5. The Sherman tank scene on 7:57 was filmed on mountain called Fruška Gora, which is near city of Novi Sad (today's Serbia); 6. The Sherman tank that Donald Sutherland used in the mentioned movie is in Museum of Vojvodina in city of Novi Sad (today's Serbia) (and even is today there); 7. When Clint Eastwood made a break of making movie Kelly's Heroes, he occasionally came to city of Novi Sad. You can find the pictures of him in Novi Sad on internet, and perhaps on social media (not sure about that); 8. The second country in the world that had Sherman tanks in large numbers was Yugoslavia; 9. If you ever visit city of Novi Sad, you can come to downtown of mentioned city, where you can see also a commemorative plates of the important years that occurred in the city of Novi Sad (and one of them was written that in 1969 the Kelly's Heroes was filmed, and also Clint Eastwood, Telly Salavas, and Donald Sutherland came to city of Novi Sad). And those are the fun facts dear people.
I went to see this film in a small cinema in Headingley in Leeds, there were about 12 of us sitting all together, straight to the pub afterwards, happy days

My dad loved this movie, especially the scene where oddball has bought the tiger tank, snd moriarity is calling it a piece of crap, and oddball says it is a beautiful tank. "See, when we go into battle man, we like to play music very loud, It calms the boys. Heh heh, and scares the hell out of the Germans." (Off the top of my head)
It’s a song from 1970 , but since oddball and his men are anachronisms themselves it seems fitting.
