Omg I just had a kerry Ellis tap workshop and it was such an experience can't believe I actually got this close to the real thing. Love you Kelly you are an amazing teacher and person.
Saw it in Dublin, a fantastic show and the performances are all amazing. Such a treat! Lovely chat with Kerry at the stage door even though she was running possibly for a flight back that night home to her lovely boys. She is always so kind generous with her time. A true lady and an absolute superstar.
Simon Callow, Bonnie Langford, Denis Lawson, Kerry Ellis… so much theatrical history between these actors alone. Caught the last show in Edinburgh back in May and it was as if we were watching a Sunday afternoon Master class!
Don't forget Denis Lawson has starred in Pal Joey, Mr Cinders, Lend Me A Tenor, Lust and La Cage Aux Folles. He's been nominated for the Olivier 3 times, and won for Mr Cinders. That's just his musical theatre history credits. There's just so much talent onstage in this show - it's amazing.
@@GFSTaylor of course - So sorry I forgot to mention Denis Lawson! He also delivered a fine performance. He seemed perfectly at home in a great musical comedy. Thank you!
Saw this at The Barbican yesterday, fabulous! Kerry is sublime, Simon Callow and Denis Lawson, wonderful and their comedy timing, perfect. Bonnie, of course, superb, as always. Not forgetting the rest of the ensemble, all in all a joyous afternoon
Saw it a few times with Sutton last year, really looking forward to seeing what Kerry brings to the role. This clip suggests the show is in good hands. Will find out for sure this Monday. Can't wait.
Saw it in Manchester after seeing it last year. Seeing it next week at the Barbican. Love Bonnie and Kerry ❤ amazing show, favourite routine is Blow Gabriel Blow.
I loved this production and the whole cast was brilliant! Especially the actor for Billy Crocker who was stepping in! Loved every moment so much- thank you!
Looks like the old Hollywood productions. Actually the story must be set in the 40s or 50s. Love tap and wish those musicals were back. Fantastic Kerry!
It just looks as though it was fitted several months ago and as she’s toured she’s lots some weight, which is always the curse of a show like this with so much choreography. Costumes are endlessly being taken in
@@kingwinifred4393 Yeah I can see that. For me I’m not sure if the ensemble is trying to be more polished in their dancing but they definitely seem stiff compared to bway’s ensemble
@@kingwinifred4393 See 1:22 - 1:27 and compare it to the 2011 Tony’s performance (which I believe both use the same shortened version of the song for promo’s) and yeah definite lack of energy
It’s unfortunately always the way of restaging. The original company are in the room as the piece is being created. That brings and energy and a buzz to everything. Being slotted into something that is already a complete production, is a very different skill set but it leads to bland performances because it’s a much more prescriptive rehearsal process
What a lack of spirit! Kerry Ellis lets herself be guided by what’s going on around her, as amazed as an innocent child, whereas the character of Reno Sweeney is a dynamic leader. She should be in front of the action, instead of following it, but can she act? Since Sutton Foster isn’t available, why not call back Rachel York?
I think she is not a suitable actress to play the role of reeno, she sings well but she lacks corporality when dancing, the turns are weird and she doesn't know how to use her arms. It is obvious that no one can compare to Sutton Foster but we have to look for dancers that adapt to the roles.
Had tickets to see Sutton Foster when this open but had to cancel after catching the dreaded covid. Decided not to rebook after she left. And I think that was probably the right decision. Somehow lacking the energy this number normally has.
Honestly the filmed promos are not like the real thing for starters the dancing the staging is so different to what you see here and honestly, best show i've ever seen can't fault it. It has now sadly closed but rumored to do another opening in 2023.

I saw Kerry Ellis in Wicked and immediately fell in love with her!

I saw this twice. My favourite musical. Denis Lawson was amazing.
I want to see this Simon Callow alone. Having Kerry, Denis, and Bonnie is just an amzing bonus!

Saw it in Manchester, simply stunning performance from everyone, would love to see it a dozen more times
I am dying now that the show has finished 😭😭😭
I adore Kerry. She will be brilliant. To be honest Bonnie Langford could easily play Reno as well
I remember first seeing this production in Broadway in New York when our music department visited in high school. :)
Looks like the old Hollywood productions. Actually the story must be set in the 40s or 50s.
Love tap and wish those musicals were back.
Fantastic Kerry!
The original show opened in 1936
It's simply wonderful, I wish I could watch the artists live!
If the rest of the show is anything like this little tidbit, I would love to go see it. Love a good wartime show. Alas, I am in USA.
Saw in Manchester, cast seemed to be enjoying themselves, made it better to watch
- would love to her version of Blow, Gabriel Blow
I had NO IDEA she could Tap! Sutton Foster is who I prefer as Reno, but Kerry's pretty damn good!
Omg so excited to see this
i haven’t seen her outside of wicked and in negl i didn’t realize she could tap??? absolutely love her
Kerry Ellis commands a room! She fits the role so well.
Fabulous
Very nice. Does she mime to a pre-recorded track in the show?
No that’s live in the show for sure. The promo shot is just a promo shot.
I wonder if she's lipsyncing. The audio is a little odd
@@mrbroadwaydork This is just a promo. It's not a live version with an audience.
They don’t call her Leading Lady of the West End for nothing!
WOW!
Appears to be missing the first verse/line 'Time have changed'...
they left that verse out for the Tony Awards performance as well. probably to save on time.
this is a transfer from the last Broadway revival?
Oh she is good, but sorry after seeing Sutton Foster peformance at the 65th Tony Awards, is very hard to be objective!
At 1:42 does Kerry start to go to the wrong end of the line?
possibly, everytime i've seen this bit of choreography, they start from the side where the "What's on Stage" logo is
Zoowie mama!!!
Good effort, pity anyone who has to follow Sutton Foster.
you are not talking abt THE kerry ellis like that
You are right, Mike.
I actually thought Kerry Ellis’ performance was a lot better
Indiana Jones Temple of Doom still best version lol
Seems much slower than Sutton Fosters performance. Am I right?
Does the show’s costumer hate the lead? ‘Cause this one doesn’t fit her.

This is the exact same choreography from the 2011 Broadway Revival and yet it looks lifeless in comparison to the broadway company. Weird.
i think part of it is the awkward shooting, but it definitely doesnt quite have the energy

Wow, talk about mean and rude! What a nasty thing to post here.
So she can tap dance, but she doesn't know ow to BELT OUT THE TUNE! Crappy!
Well, some of us appreciate actual singing rather than shouting the whole time.
This is ok, she’s no Sutton Foster. She is just going from step to step with no drive, looks overawed

It's a fabulous, exhilarating show. This is just a filmed promo. Go see it.

low energy compared to Sutton Foster. Pass.
Really can't believe I'm saying this but, Kerry is so much better than Sutton..
Kerry’s looking old and too slim
