@@Jaz-32 the only time height might effect you is when your going for top shelf’s or doing risers but you could get a step stool or do the good old climbing method
@@Thecaster4545 alot of UD and managers forbid a partner from climbing on the shelves as it increases risk of falling and also you can damage the shelves easily depending on what part you step on. Which blows my mind when a 6foot stock controller walks your aisle, steps on a stool and says. "Oh you missed all of this on the riser" meanwhile all that backstock is tucked up in the back of the riser and expects you to each the items. Like get outta here. Lmao
Quick heads up is that being able to work out and go to the gym is possible but makes work a little harder. I only work with two other people every night and we’re on a time limit so it does affect things

I actually start a overnight shift tonight. I am super nervous about it since I never been a stocker or overnight. Your advice and a lot of the comments are super helpful in making me feel confident going in. Thanks! 😁
I'm the Assistant Crew Chief at a Hannaford's and its interesting to me how literally exactly the same the job is from place to place lol. Same problems, same skill curve and high turnover. I swear overnight stockers is a secret society. All you have to say is you're an overnight stocker to someone else who does the job and all of the pain is suddenly mutually understood. TLDR: Love your vids m8.
I am a former stocker and wanted to do something similar like a live stream. I and others take stocking seriously. It’s an art form. You have to get rest during the day or the work will catch up to eventually. This was a great video!
I just got the job and start in about 2 weeks at HEB the benefits sound amazing for full timers and the start pay is good and the fact that it can get up 19/hr based off of performance is even better! The only thing is the interviewers really tried to scare me out of the job and made it sound really hard and now I'm super nervous! I'm not exactly a fast learner I hope they are pretty easy going with beginners who make mistakes
@@renesalinas8397 sucks ass dude ngl I transfered departments after a year and half. The department is constantly losing people and it's a lot of hard work that ends up on you if you stay. You don't leave til the job is done and if you DO decide to leave before the job is done like let's say you work 8-4, if you leave at 4 and the work still isn't done (99% of the time it isnt) they will be passive aggressive towards you and schedule you less or isolate you. This has happened to most people who work the department. Your body will hurt like hell, no sleep, feel like shit all the time, the scheduling is random each week so you never know if you are going to work 5 days on 2 days off or some I've seen 4 days off but then they work 10 days in a row! The only plus side, for my store at least, you get a shit ton of hours because we are always understaffed so you have to pick up the work load for those who aren't there. My friends are hitting 70+ hours every week. It's also near impossible to move up beyond stock controller which most people don't want that responsibility anyways for an extra $1. Once they see you are good, they will never let you go because a good stocker is hard to come by. Another positive though is I've seen people go from $15/hr to $20/hr in 2 years or less. But the reason they did this at my store is because so many people were leaving and they were doing everything to keep the stockers that they did still have. The nights are always long, you will almost always be working 10+ hrs a day which doesn't sound bad until you realize how much of a toll it takes on your body and mental health. The veteran stockers I know who have worked there making 20÷ are ready to call it quits because managers are never happy, if you are still stocking when the store opens no matter the circumstances, they don't care. They will literally tell you "it's not hard, it's easy, why aren't you guys done?! You guys need to work faster" it just completely diminishes morale to where even 20/hr isn't even enough to keep the staff. I understand now why they tried to scare me during the interview. I've even seen people quit 4hrs into their shift. However if you do plan on sticking it out, my advice to you to get a good raises (which you get every 6 months until you hit midpoint btw) and a good reputation is to focus on speed speed speed! It's important to learn where everything is yes and they will tell you that, but I promise they care more about speed and accuracy over you memorizing aisles. And by accuracy I mean placing the items in the correct spots on the shelf. Just bring headphones and go HAM when stocking (throwing) they will be very impressed with you if they see how fast you are with everything they do because like most places, everyone hates training people because it slows the team down so just do your best bro! GL! If you want to transfer and still want to work overnight I highly recommend TSST
Got an interview for overnight stocking at Meijer today. These videos are helping me out so when i start (im confident ill get the job) i can have some sense of what to expect. Thanks a lot man
this goings to be one my favorite video from you i like because you s plain first day working and grocery night stocking good sample and i will share you video we my coworker and other stores
Nice editing! To add to the tips for stocking, rotate food items. New products go in the back of the shelve, old gets pushed foward. Also use proper form when lifting anything heavy that's. Thats super important. When i did overnight stocking, so many people would complain about back pain. Try and take care of yourself, dont run yourself into the ground working this job. It can be strenuous, and working at night is another challenge. Eat healthy, if possible, drink plenty of water while working and dont skip out on sleep! Working while sleepy sucks ass! Caffeine will be your best friend. Im sure during closed hours youll be able to listing to music. Listen to podcast if you havent before , theirs such a hugh variety podcast to keep you entertained. I always recommend The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, endless amounts of great guests from various backgrounds, very informative and interesting. Good luck!
OhMaiPhuckingGawd I wish you could load the shelf from the back. That would cut down on time it takes to rotate. I think stores should be set up that way.
That's not ideal because having shelves back to back cuts down on space. The stores would have to be twice as large in order to do that, plus you'd only have shelves on one side of each isle.
Rotating is nessacary if store doesn't do much volume but where I work shelves clear in 2-3 days so I dont rotate usually takes experience though to master this
Gloves, i found i needed decent gloves, upwards of 250-300 boxes you can easily wear the skin on your hands. Boxes are dry, absorbs the moisture in your hands, can crack the skin. Plus paper cuts and shit.
Some guys wear gym workout gloves, flexible motorcycle gloves, couple others been using disposable nitrile gloves. Never liked the disposable aspect myself.
I can't believe it's been 5 months 3 months since I been working at Walmart I tell you its a amazing experience I don't work overnight I work 2 till 11 I look at my upc numbers and all do top stock work the trucks easy for me
i don't work stocking at a grocery store; but i work overnights at a warehouse assembly job. 7pm-7am and yes i agree; sleep is the biggest key. i have been doing this for about a year now. i usually sleep from like 10am to like 4pm. Make sure. you shower and eat a well balanced meal before your shift so you are not hungry af like an hour into it. I don't get a break for 3-4 hours into my shift.

At my store the dayshift unloads the truck and places food and health/beauty on different pallets , then they stock the shelves until their shift is over. I work evenings, so I try to finish the pallets and also stock the reach-in drink cooler. Then I am also responsible to take out the trash and cardboard and sweep and mop the WHOLE store at closing.

@@TPFAM1LY Terrible, I have anxiety issues and had a slight panic attack and threw up. They thought I was making it all up and I didn't get to come back after that.
I break down the load every night second shift , get the shit sorted on pallets (trucks/u-boats, whatever you guys call em lol) Overnight used to handle breaking down the load/stocking the entirety of the day's load but with me on second shift getting it broken down and getting a few aisles stocked and out the way with I like to think it helps. One stocker to another!
Newbie questions for experienced folks Does "LV" refer to "Live"? What is meant by a "double truck"? Two trucks per night? What is "blocking"? Lining up rows? What is "double facing" Bringing more than one row of product to the front? In grocery aisles too narrow for a skid, does pre-spotting improve or hurt speed?
Double truck means you have one grocery truck come and drop their load off. Then a second truck comes with more shit to stock. It’s a pain in the ass. Especially if you work for Walmart. Now I’m working at Winn-Dixie as a overnight manager. I love the system Walmart has for grocery stocking. Winn-Dixie is so difficult. Also, many companies will watch to see who the best is out of the crew and they will use you until you go nuts. But if you can’t get past the stocking part, it pays off. Especially a store merchandise manager. Then becoming a store manager. Most store managers started off in the grocery department. My guess is because you’re always around people interacting with them and work at the same time. That shows the bosses above you that you can work under being distracted and also showing great customer service at the same time.
This makes me excited! I'm starting a night stocking position next week never done it before a little nervous but I'm a fast multitasker with a pretty good 👁️. I've always wondered how night stockers got their jobs thought it looked like key kinda fun ! Although the sleep part will be a challenge I have a baby and teenagers eeeee...
MekoXIII bro dont worry about speed in the begining !! worry about memorizing wherr things go and stocking correctly! the speed will come to you as u keep doing your job trust me!! i was slow at first now i can hang with the fast stockers in my store!! you got this bro!!! dont overthink !!! we are here for you bro!
Glad to hear that, I'm starting my first ever retail job after working in a glass shop(my only previous job experience) for 12 years. I'll be doing what MekoXIII is doing with dairy and meat, but my shift is 1:30pm to 10pm. It's definitely going to be a learning experience for sure.
They want you to be fast but they also want you to do a good neat job and be accurate. Quantity and quality. You gotta decide the pace you work at in order to get the job done at their standards.
In dairy you have to work smart and understand how to downstack and sort the pallets because they are mixed with deli and meat. Know where everything belong and sort on different pallets. Zone zone zone
The store I work at could do a lot better job organizing us night workers. after sorting everything off pallets they send everyone to one aisle and we work our way down. problem is everybody just gets in each others way. I'd love to work an aisle by myself. Also We aren't allowed to leave boxes on the shelves like at 6:50 makes stocking and blocking take longer. Idk what our CPH is but it's not even close to 80 with the way we do things now.
80 cases an hour in insane. I’m the Assistant Grocery Manager at Sprouts Farmers Market and their expectation for day stockers is 40-60 CPH. We actually don’t even do night stocking since we’re a low-volume store. I probably do in fact throw 80 CPH but that’s because I order our trucks, know what I ordered, can identify most products just based off of the box, and know where everything goes. Our CPH is a little lower due to the amount of customer service we do (lots of customers ask for assistance with reaching and locating products, etc.) but I can see why new employees at these higher-volume stores would be intimidated with starting out. Good tips, man!
Great job on making a TH-cam channel for this stuff! I had been thinking of starting something like this back in the day but never did...but am glad someone else has! I haven't watched many of your videos, but will watch more and will suggest things that may add to improving workflow in the comments. For instance, the section with you guys breaking down the pallets...your team mates are going so slow: get those dudes to sweat! ;) I can also understand that you have what looks like a difficult area to break down: all linear with constricted mobility. :( At the last place I worked, they liked to do something like that (and they also broke down onto pallets). I found this place between the meat bunkers where we broke stuff down, and there was enough room to have four pallets on either side with two full ones in the middle. It gave the shortest route possible to each empty pallet, and as they filled up, I had another guy (or myself) spot the built-up pallet while dropping a new empty one, then bringing out two more to break down. On the days that I was in charge, it took two of us less time to do it than it took four of us to do the same the other way. It's just all about constant improvement in technique with these jobs: as long as you have your head on straight, you'll keep getting better and better, I would say to anyone listening.
it’s a fking nightmare. I had an abusive boss and would just berate me when shit wasn’t right, even just things like not forward enough. i’d rather die than work this job
I have EEEEEEXXXXXXTTTTRRRRREEEEEMMMEEE anxiety about getting my first job coz I’m not the greatest at math like I can do it but the anxiety and stuff just trips me up I’m so nervous but think a good starting place is working as a stocker at Walmart but I don’t wanna mess anything up
ItzJustKris bro no matter where or what job we get we have to mess up a bit in order to learn ! And believe me I can’t do math I not very good at it at all, and don’t stress believe it or not I am really nervous to talk to people I don’t know either ,. It’s hard but you can do it bro!
Everyone has anxiety bro it's just learning to manage it. They not going to fire you because you can't count, but they want to see you learn from your mistakes and not make the same mistake over and over.
@@notahamster333 I didn't hold that job for very long but I learned some tips along the way. Everything homie said on this video is the key to good stocking and keep a store full. I enjoyed stocking because I was around cool people whom taught me some tricks. But I found a more well paying job at one of the biggest hospitals in my state so I left. Good luck & have fun!!

Honestly this job is good if your not in school or have a kid to take care of. If your single and doing nothing it’s a good job. But not recommend if your going to school or have social life.
Worked for 13 years as a stocker and 4 years of it as a stock controller. It is not an easy job. So any new comers be prepared to drink a lot of Red Bull if you are not used to over nights.
Just subbed ❤ starting my overnight stocking job tomorrow I've been a landscaper for 3 years so it'll be an interesting change I appreciate all the info!!
That’s what I’m struggling with the most is breaking down the pallets putting whatever items belong in my aisle. It’s like my 6th night at Walmart and sometimes I just ant to throw in the towel. I’ve done home healthcare since I was 18 I’m definitely not use to this
Wow... Well yalls heb seems a lot more efficient. Where im at as soon as we clock in we immediately start downstacking the truck into the aisles. Then when we are done everyone goes to LV and separates the pallets based on the aisle then we downstack those and then when thats done we empty the carts from the backstock. But basically once you are done stocking completely you do the riser and then block it.
Use this job to start something else bro dont feel stuck. Save, invest and invest again theres sooooo many jobs out there to do without an education (school)
I’m literally typing this 5 years later but I go for a interview tommorow and need to know what question they ask you at the interview and stuff I have work at a pallet place for like 5 years and it got shutdown like 5 months ago so looking for a new job and I have been on a diet and lost 13 pounds already so I have go the healty part going right now
I've just started and already getting pressured to move faster even if the job is not done right. I'm consistently finding staff mistakes in aisles and sometimes the only way to put fresh product out is to remove several rows of product that had been put in its spot when it's not meant to be there 😖
Same... I was getting pressured today to move faster . Either way I got things done..I just gotta learn my over stock and know when things will be over stocked or not so I won’t have to try to stock it so the process will be faster

@@Jaz-32 the only time height might effect you is when your going for top shelf’s or doing risers but you could get a step stool or do the good old climbing method
You still slinging freight?
@@Thecaster4545 alot of UD and managers forbid a partner from climbing on the shelves as it increases risk of falling and also you can damage the shelves easily depending on what part you step on. Which blows my mind when a 6foot stock controller walks your aisle, steps on a stool and says. "Oh you missed all of this on the riser" meanwhile all that backstock is tucked up in the back of the riser and expects you to each the items. Like get outta here. Lmao

I appreciate you !!! We are here to help!!! I hope you do good bro ! Let us know how it goes !
+djseraphis yeaa bro!!! We all on the same boat here !! 😁
I'm not exactly a fast learner I hope they are pretty easy going with beginners who make mistakes
how was or is it bro i start tomorrow

Good luck!

Newbie questions for experienced folks
Does "LV" refer to "Live"?
What is meant by a "double truck"? Two trucks per night?
What is "blocking"? Lining up rows?
What is "double facing" Bringing more than one row of product to the front?
In grocery aisles too narrow for a skid, does pre-spotting improve or hurt speed?
LV means Low Velocity Double truck im not sure ?? lol
Worked many years ago at Walmart overnight it used to be fun until they started getting more corporate and strict

bulletburposmiley just go in with the right mind set and u got it bro!
At the last place I worked, they liked to do something like that (and they also broke down onto pallets).
Super easy since they didn't do anything at my store. Just strolled around drinking coffee and lounging in the break room.

thanks alot! i start over night tonight. not food but i do stock at old navy tonight at 11pm
Good luck 🙏👌 you got this !
I'll be starting to work as an attendant and stock boy next monday. Wish me luck. greetings from Brazil. :3
southern Traveller hello Brazil!!! Where will you be working bro!?
How's it going so far?
Wow... Well yalls heb seems a lot more efficient. Where im at as soon as we clock in we immediately start downstacking the truck into the aisles. Then when we are done everyone goes to LV and separates the pallets based on the aisle then we downstack those and then when thats done we empty the carts from the backstock. But basically once you are done stocking completely you do the riser and then block it.
just got a job being an overnight stocker at albertsons, let's goooooo. havent started yet
Thanks man. Harder than Walmart but it is what it is. Better pay
Watching here my friend 😊
Since I don't plan on going to college, this is my dream job. Once I'm done with school, I'm going to become a stocker :].
Use this job to start something else bro dont feel stuck. Save, invest and invest again theres sooooo many jobs out there to do without an education (school)
Give trade school/programs a shot at least.
@@556andy That’s exactly what I’m doing. Save up like 15k working here then join a trade school or get into an apprenticeship program.

How long did it took for them to respond back when u applied? I applied a week ago and haven't heard back yet
Nice video. I miss working for heb.
How do you know which lv item goes on which boat before taking the boat to the aile?
We have to memorize all of the isles it took me a couple of months to rememeber the whole store and all the boxes
I’m literally typing this 5 years later but I go for a interview tommorow and need to know what question they ask you at the interview and stuff I have work at a pallet place for like 5 years and it got shutdown like 5 months ago so looking for a new job and I have been on a diet and lost 13 pounds already so I have go the healty part going right now
I bearly have one year in heb and ya im doing 120 cases per hour 🤪💯🔥
Jesus Lopez ooooh daaaam bro ! The most I had was 180 , that’s me having everything set up tho , and me trying harddd
Jesus Lopez nice keep going brother !
I've just started and already getting pressured to move faster even if the job is not done right. I'm consistently finding staff mistakes in aisles and sometimes the only way to put fresh product out is to remove several rows of product that had been put in its spot when it's not meant to be there 😖
Hi how is it going for you?
Same... I was getting pressured today to move faster . Either way I got things done..I just gotta learn my over stock and know when things will be over stocked or not so I won’t have to try to stock it so the process will be faster
