For those cracks on a slightly textured deck. Depending on the crack size dust your caulking with your h&c shark grip or silica sand. It will blend in much better and help feather out the sides
I must advise if your pool deck is textured a 1/2” nap covers better and will hold more paint. Otherwise a 3/8” nap will not get into the grooves without excessive muscle work having to push the paint in.
Hello, its Tim from A&L Painting just outside of Toronto, Canada. I also started a computer business because I went to college and took ITPro for computer and networking. If you need a hand with anything to do with computer's, I'll help you anytime. You helped me, so if you want I'll help you. I started my painting company because I needed a real income and painting pays the bills and I love it.it also makes me feel good after a long day at work, It also keeps keeps us fit. Take care and have a good day.
Your the best on the net. Please clarify, stain vs. coating? Is the stain just an acrylic paint? Also latex caulk in concrete vs. a self leveling concrete sealant?
So I'm preparing to repaint my pool deck. I pressure washer all of the old paint off that would come off. 99% of it. I am looking at a white color with medium coverage of flakes. Would epoxy or paint be a better choice? I am going to be renting this home out so I want something that I won't have to recoat or worry about getting worn too fast.
Thank you for the great video. If you could bring down the banjo volume, the plucks are so loud they hurt the ear when the volume is perfect for your voice.
I put the ceiler around my swimming pool, but i get some green or yellow color. can you tell me something about it, Thank you. I used a power washer and i clean it very good.
had to change the color on the deck so it took more than one coat...very slick now...will the shark grip get me what I need tor non slickness? Difference between Shark Grip and Gator Grip?
How long does this last, what type of maintence will it need and does H & C have good customer service? I have been reading some awful reviews on other products, I am very nervous about "Painting " our concrete but it seems like the most cost effective solution for now. We also have colored concrete now and will need to have a few patches made. Do you think there will be a problem with the color difference. Thank you so much truly value your professional opinon.
Just a question and hopefully you still see some of these comments - what kind of condition does the deck need to be in to apply this stain and shark grip? I have a 40 year old gunite pool that we are looking to dress up the "apron" a bit. It's definitely seen some New England winters. I've powerwashed the deck (two weekends in a row) and will be leaf blowing it clean too. But it looks like in your video the deck isn't in too bad of shape. Thanks!
No the primer goes into all of the concrete stains/coatings. If previously coated you will need to make sure to use the right coating/stain overtop of this. 2 things I will recommend that this guy doesnt. 1 add mildewicide/anti sporham to the paint. I don't care what any yoyo tells you just do it. Secondly use an 18 inch roller, and a 3/4 inch nap. Sometimes these are hard to find at the box stores and can be found at sherwin Williams. Also you want to have a paint grid to go in your tray. If you dont see an 18 2 regular paint grids will do.....9 inchx2......
It looks like this deck was already stained previously, we were going to use this product to stain ours, and the gentleman at our local Sherwin Williams store said you cannot use this product on previously stained concrete?
Great video, exactly what I needed. I appreciate the detail about what nap roller is best and the brand of the slip resistant additive. I'd like to know what brand of stain was used and did this stain go over an existing stained finish which is my situation.
My son and I are going to attempt to paint our pool deck while my husband is out in California. I want to surprise him when he gets back. Can you tell me if the only prep work that needs to be done if the pool deck has already been painted before is to power wash it? I guess I should also take that wire brush to it just to be sure there aren't any loose paint chips? Any sealant for pre painted decks that I should use? Thanks for all your great videos!
If I use H&C solid color stain on my garage floor, driveway & sidewalk (with sharkskin) , do I still need to use a seal coat over it? If so, what sealer would you recommend?
What product did you use for pool deck? I'm trying to decide between Leslie's Patio Perfect (same product as Olympic Patio Tones), Behr Deck Over or H&C Solid Color Stain. Too many products!
I'm thinking of staining my garage floor for the first time. what would be my first steps (prep)? I have a 2 1/2 garage! how much stain do I needed and how long to let the floor dry before I can put the car's back inside?
Hi, I just come across your channel, are you in Florida as well? I would love it if you can do my house. The exterior and my pool as well. You’re amazing.
OK ... thin coat ;-) got it... Does that mean you don't use two coats ???... Would you ever at any time use two coats ??? Also did you use a water base or oil base ... Thanks in advance .
Thank you sir :-) we just prepped our pool deck hoping to get painting tomorrow... (using the H&C concrete sealer too) Thank you for getting back to me on this , God Bless
I have a concrete deck that was painted to match the house and now it is peeling, what is the best way to remove the old paint so it can be repainted? Thank You
Nice vid and good info. Have you ever used Encore product *Cool!* *Pool* *Deck* *Coating* ? According to them any paint/stain will increase heat retention of your "Kool Deck" (or knock down) surface. This product is supposed to maintain cooling properties. I live in FL and this is important.
are you planning on still painting the slide ? I'd love to see how that turns out. BTW great videos and thanks for posting you're awesome at what you do!
Depending on the amount of prep work, how big the area, and what all needs to be done, probably anywhere from $1.30 to $2.80 per square foot. Location also depends, Cali is going to be more expensive than Tennessee.
I have painted 300 pool decks . What I learned is in the sun belt , lower states that are hot . you can expect to get sued for this application on bare concrete , The efflorescence from the mineral content in the concrete is that it expels salts from the moisture and arid climate evaporates moisture through the surface and dalaminates the paint over a short time causing peeling of paint and the customer expects it repaired . Then you have a life time maintenance nightmare . Judges here in southern California will charge you three times the cost of the job to have the paint sand blasted off . The only way I have stayed in business is to apply concrete adhesive and then a white cement coating with stucco color tint to create a colored cement , then splash the texture with a stucco splash brush one eighth to a quarter inch thich peaks and valleys , let it partially dry , then trowel a knock down finish . Wait overnight , then paint that porous surface , which will hold the deck paint within the pores of the new structurally adhered cement coating . It will last ten years to twenty years . No paint peeling , delamination , or blistering from the white efflorescence that forms between the concrete surface and the paint / stain . It is false advertising to promote painting regular concrete in the south , especially west of the Rocky mountains where the mineral content of the rock and sand are sources of this condition from wicking moisture from the pool wall or from rain and washing . Commercial pools are washed very often . Do not paint bare concrete in the south west . The paint company may offera few gallons of paint to repaint , but the same thing will happen sooner than you think it will and you will be a slave to the job forever .repainting often .best of luck and protect yourself at all times from quick fixes like they are promoting .
Don McKinney and Paint Life TV, I am looking for a suggestion for choice of pool deck paint. I'm in Florida. I just had an extension to my pool deck poured. You can see a picture here: imgur.com/a/Etv3vbQ That part I will make a knock down texture to make it match the old pool deck. After that I plan to use Rustolium Etch and Cleaner and then prime with BEHR Premium Concrete and Masonry Bonding Primer and then paint. On the old part of the pool deck, it has previously been painted with 3 or 4 layers of latex paint. I used caustics soda to strip the last layer, which had been peeling. After that I sanded the entire deck so all the tops of the knockdown texture are pretty much free of paint. I am not sure how to continue from here. Wash? Etch? Prime or what? And what type of primer ?(if that's what I should do). Finally when both areas are prepped, what paint/stain to use? Hopefully I can use same type both places. We want a darker peach color, so it must be tintable. I hope you guys will take a minute to help me out. Thanks Mike

You are a smart man. I learnt something
see Chris, you do it all man. I only do interior and exterior paint including garage floors. never pools or pool deck
Yes, when it is pool season why not!
Nice job, quick and succinct

Can I use concrete stain over concrete that has been painted?
Your videos are great! I'm both a fine art and house painter and love your tips!! Thank you!!!!👍🏼
your awesome bro love your personality
I was wondering how this stain resist to the dragging of patio furniture such as metal chairs?

Your the best on the net. Please clarify, stain vs. coating? Is the stain just an acrylic paint? Also latex caulk in concrete vs. a self leveling concrete sealant?
A waterbased solid stain
How much stain did you use on this project? 2 gallons?

Thanks for watching!
any other product to apply on top of the paint? like wet-lock? would it give it more durability?
thank you for your help
Thanks for the video...very educational. I like the color...what color stain was used?
When painting new homes, do they just paint them one colour of primer?
Do you recommend applying it with a sprayer or roller? I noticed you used a roller and I wanted to know if that's your preference.
Mr. Idaho Painter, can I apply the H&C stain with a sprayer?!
would be nice is the guy responded to the questions here
OK
It looks like this deck was already stained previously, we were going to use this product to stain ours, and the gentleman at our local Sherwin Williams store said you cannot use this product on previously stained concrete?
If I pressure washed the pool deck earlier in the summer and now it's fall can I skip that step?
Not really

In Idaho
How about a close up view of the finish decking??????

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I was just about to purchase the Cool pool deck paint, but checked Amazon and it has a lot of bad reviews.
About to paint a pool in FL, so glad I saw this comment
Should have fixed that big crack near the pool ladder before painting.
OK
don't forget to post the next video for the slide been high gloss painted..
What brand and paint is that? I'd like the same for me.
Great video
are you planning on still painting the slide ? I'd love to see how that turns out. BTW great videos and thanks for posting you're awesome at what you do!
Thanks for the video. Do you have to etch the concrete if it hasn't been stained before?
+The Idaho Painter thanks
I didn't think big stretch was an exterior caulk? I thought it was interior only?
Yes, also exterior
Paint Life TV did you make a video of you painting the slide?
Do I need to etch my concrete before or just pressure wash/ clean it?
Etch it
Paint Life TV will the acid harm my fake grass/ turf? Thanks for the quick response. Love the channel
So just 1 coat ?
One coat
So, should I use a short or long nap roller? LOL...
Hmm maybe long !
short nap so the non slip agent doesn't get caught up in the nap...3/8 inch
The best peinters greit jod
+Charly Morales Not sure if English is your forte but I think you meant to say "The best pAinters greAt joB"? :)
ok. Pete and re-Pete were in a boat........

So is this paint or stain? I’m confused when the title says paint but then you say stain 🤣
Use one of those Nap rollers for your nappy hair.🤣🤣🤣
lol, good idea, wait what hair though
You caulked your crack????
Yes
I prefer a Painting company where the Person in charge doesn't look like he served 7 years in prison
Well that’s good cause I only served 5
@@Idahopainter Wow people can be so rude,, I think you are doing a great job.. Keep up the good work
