I grow irritated listening to the restless wind whose sharp howls keep me awake in the dark of night. The creaking of the tree's branches as it violently sways back and forth. A constant battle between the hail smashing against my window, and the thunder which strikes soon after a blinding light takes hold of the moonlit sky. Although my frail hands cover my ears firmly, and my fatigued eyes shut tight, I can't escape the merciless grasp of mother nature. Succumbing to her maltreatment, I wake, shivering in my blankets. I notice my sheets are damp with sweat and possibly tears. I think about laying back down, making this resting spot my own grave. Suddenly, my eyes take notice of a light in the corner of the room. My vision, still hazy, is almost able to make out words coming from the illuminated area. I move myself away from my sorrowful sheets and make my way towards the light. As I get closer, the feeling of warmth overwhelms my body and the sweat I was drenched in is suddenly gone, as if it had evaporated. A chair suddenly appears from the light, although it may have been there all along. I take a seat and focus on the now gleaming light. The words I had noticed earlier had now become as clear as day.

After reading, I sink down into the chair and my heart skips a beat as I fall through it. I reach out to the now fading light in hopes that it would save me. My hand clasps onto a ledge that my fingers could barely fit on. I try to pull myself up, but there was nothing to be done. Suddenly, a radiant figure appeared from above the abyss. It extended its hand out to me but it was still too far away to reach. At this point, I knew what had to be done. I strained my body for all the strength that I had left and leaped for it. Just as my hand was about to grasp the light, it passed right through. I quickly tried to seize it with my other hand but the outcome was the same. Falling headfirst into the abyss, with no sign of every getting out, I was dumbfounded. That, once, brilliant glow was nowhere to be seen. Here I was, thinking that salvation had come, but instead misfortune would bare her fangs and lead me astray. I close my eyes and accept my destiny for what it had become.
What a cruel and twisted fate.
