We use piston rings on some of the Deere manifold expansion connections in order to get them to seal up. If you get that slip clearance too tight they are prone to cracking the manifolds as they will lock the joint under variable loads because the inside gets hotter faster than the outside.
That's probably one of the reasons a warm up and cool down before shut down period is critical. That little bit of extra fuel is worth it, to avoid some major problems. I knew a man that didn't think it mattered. He learned the hard way. He got in a habit of running a cat loader into a pile, and cutting the engine off under a hard load. Nearly a month down and a small mountain of money getting a head repaired made him see the error of his ways. His mechanic had a few carefully selected words for him as well.
Greetings from the South coast of South Africa. As a young man i worked on many construction sites with earthworks companies and I loved the CAT equipment, and the Terex TS14B scrapers. I worked mostly on the D8K and D8H good kit, thanks for the entertainment and quality video material
Hello there, Mr. Paydirt and company. Coming to you again from New Mexico, again. Love the hats I got from you this week. By far the best ones I have ever had. Also like to say very informational video on upgrading older machinery with vigor, like the 637 tractor engine (and all the others that have been done thus far.) Keep them babies going as long as possible. They are true testaments to real CAT power!
Hey Jeff I have had great luck when ever replacing a manifold section by using 3M 1137 High temperature sealer (2P-2333) usually have to use a rose bud on the flanges to create enough clearance to separate the sections.
"Looks like when they made this feller they forgot to put in the quit!" (Buster Scruggs) Nice video my friend! Thanks for the shout out! Nice weld btw exactly how I would have done it!
Dig your channel 👍 Nice to watch and learn from a humble man like yourself. Reminds me of the old man who took me under his wing when I first got started about 10 years ago, one of the first things he told me was to stay humble and watch out for the “loud mouth know it alls”, as they are usually the ones who know the least. Started in the shop at Empire Cat, then field service for CSW contractors (95% Cat equipment), and now I’ve hopped the fence and working for RDO John Deere back in the shop (construction side). Prefer dealers, but watching your videos does make me miss the contractor side of the industry. Looking forward to following along, from Mesa, AZ 👍
if you add a - super thin coat- of wood stove stovepipe sealant to the multiple piece exhaust connections it will seal up the exhaust leaks until the exhaust can take over.
Jeff, do what we do in aviation with "O" rings put some Vaseline on them to make things stay in place and easier to slide into place...works great and the Vaseline melts off into nothing. Nice video by the way.
Chris Hileman and I were just talking about this switchblade turbo getting put on. This is going to be interesting! Sitting here holding on to my butt and waiting patiently.
Hello sir!!! Great video as always!!! Greetings once again from El Paso, TX!!!! From Raul Frescas. You are awesome and I would love to work for you one day sir!!!
Hey Jay paydirt, just want to say howdy from Texas! Love your videos, specially love your vids that show you working on your equipment, keep em comin!!!
I'm from Iowa but didn't know anything about Blackhawk. Sounds like a bad deal since the switch. "Jbom"!! lol! That was great! Too bad about the intro, but the youtubes really likes to poop on peoples parties. That new starter definitely sounds like the way to go! Another great video! Thanks for the video!
Hey there jpaydirt too bad about the your introduction actually enjoy it but yeah tough call still enjoying all the wrench time that you give us I think we're going to be all sweeper experts at the end and I must say the American flag and Swedish flag on the toolbox looks good nice to it got a good home
Jpaydirt gets er done I love how every piece of equipment has it's place and purpose did you ever decide on adding another dozer? Well good week to you Jeff
Another excellent video Jeff.I don't see why you didn't freeze those bearings and install them using Mrs.paydirts kitchen counter/workbench.I'm sure she wouldn't have minded one bit! Lifting the fuel pump looked about as bad as lifting one of the old 50MT starters. Can't wait till you start moving dirt.
love your videos, i'm trying to do the same but on a smaller scale. case 1450b dozer, cat313b excavator, 930 loader. problem is im in so cal. my dump truck is limited to 1000 miles being a 1989 379 non smogable. hope to relocate to Az or Id just to keep on working, im only 64. keep up the videos, thanks
I've seen several old EUCLID B-70 bottom dumps, now, repowered with Detroit Diesel Series 60's. They WORK...really good. 700 lbs lighter, more torque, quieter, almost zero smoke AND burn a LOT LESS FUEL than a "Buzzin Dozen."
Hi Jeff here is a thought for you for your intro - video of old Kenny running down the road at full noise , now that’s music , that would get you plenty of attention and you get to thumb your nose at Utube . Yea Kenny go. Cheers and beers from Australia .
👍👍👍👌👌 JEFF AWESOME INTRO 🥃 with those "BULL HAULERS" ROLLING UP THE ROAD 😊 That WABCO could do a NICE WHEEL-STAND out there too........😱 You sure have a nice climate out there. Lots of ( WELL SPENT ) time and engineering retrofitting / ( CAT ) stock going to take a hit without } Jpaydirt { 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑 parts sales. AWESOME VIDEO 🥃 😍😍😍😍😍
Will there be future videos of all the jobsite action that happened while all the important wrenching on the scrapers was happening? "please Sir I want more"
I knew TH-cam was going to flag you eventually for using that. I was afraid to say something because I wanted to make sure they held off as long as possible. But you have a few options. There are tons of royalty free songs you can use or maybe if you have a subscriber who is a musician they can write you something original. Or you could just do the loudest machine you have in the fleet starting up for your intro. Same thing with what you’re using when you go out you could also just use the airhorn and the Jake break that will be sufficient enough.
Great video Jay! That starter setup could help tons of people stay out of physical therapy and reduce RTV consumption considerably. So do you have to make a new intro every so often to make money? What gives? Thanks for all of your hard work!
Well I have been using the Paydirtarosa intro for a while , but they are getting better at detecting music, so when they do that I make enough to take you to Wendys for a large combo meal, I don't think the music makes the video nor does it get the views, but they take 90% of the revenue,
@@Jpaydirt #alwayssomething however, you have such a fan base that I would imagine you could find a few people who can run a paddle pan and at the same time a six string. Might have to have a Jpaydirt soundtrack contest!
The D343 is the industrial version of the 1693 truck engine as I'm sure you know. I'm just curious as to why Cat didn't use an air to air on the 1693 truck engine. I know they used the air to air on the 3406 ATAAC engines.
jpaydirt love the vidga's ,love to here you talk, and watch you work, but please stabilize your volume control when editing your vidga's. Every time you add music ,the volume blows me out of the room. So, to save me the anguish of having to reach for my remote every time, please turn the music down a little...lol god bless you ....Jack
The paydirtarosa intro is one of the best parts of your videos! But it sucks you won’t make any money if you keep using it, TH-cam bs. I’m sure you can come up with a new intro that’ll be even better though. Love your videos, keep up the good work!
I know you're into a lot of projects and folks follow them all, but when "Ole Kenny" was restored you promised some workshop wall art from his internals. I made sure that I would pay the freight and told you so. Just let me know, is that a long-ago enthusiastic promise that is hard to follow through on? It happens, has to me when I didn't give something, or show up, or somehow didn't follow up. Just let me know, and I won't write to ask anymore.
Mr. Jpaydirt I love your TH-cam channel and I love your intro. This GD world is a bunch of BS change your intro, there's got to be something in it for you. And let your subscribers tell you to what a chicken plucking pooping outfit they are and we'll do the complaining. Thanks man take care we appreciate you ldr
It sure gets me why you need a thumb on a excavator that's wider than the dipper width, a single dipper width thumb works just fine...all that extra wide thumb does is gets in your eye site view...Go Figure .
So I got a six pack down whike watching letsdig18 video... why its Fiday and my boss is a ..a...hole normaly don't drink at all first time in over 7 months did I metion my boss an a...hole and its Friday. You sir , are the EPITOME of the hard-working, knowledgeable, competent American worker. You amaze me with your technical & mechanical ability.

Great details on the rebuild! Should pass inspection easy! Thanks I enjoy watching your videos.👍👍👍👍👍
Jpay is good for it ! Thank You to the starter dude , I thought the fearless leader was going to blow a gasket on the fuel system install .

Cool music on the flyover at the beginning, Jeff! Plus I enjoy how you explain all of your engine internals and stuff
Another great video! Love learning about this stuff and watch so e dirt being moved!

Jeez Jeff....my left nut went into hiding watching you tottin that fuel pump up into place...😨🚑

I love the comparisons its always cool to me and fun to crunch numbers and compare everything
Good morning Jeff, thank you for another interesting video!! Take care 👍😎🇬🇧.
Learned allot about cats. Ready for that big job
I bet you would like a update fuel pump like the starter update so heavy! Great video.

but the vasoline is in the bedroom night stand.........☻
Don’t take it back to the bedroom after using it in the shop!!
You can afford another one
I like the wiseco sticker on your fuel pump 🤘🏻
Blackhawk Foundry was in Davenport Iowa. Been there many times picking up and delivering. 20 minutes from my house.
I saw a video by KT 3406 where he was using one of those gear reduction starters that you use. Cool!😎
Five seconds in and Captions described the Cattle truck passing by tooting his horn as (Music). Oh Captions you are such a Comedian!
Another great video Robert from Hazel Green Alabama
Love the video Jeff , keep them coming awesome channel !
Jeff, Perfect on Onaway! Keep up the good videos.
Aweso the up dateme video Jeff Thank you for
Jeff your going to make ABOM79 proud with your machining skills..... both of you have great channels keep up the good work.
Both are into big scrapers, together they could build a great custom one. 😃
Chris Hileman and I were just talking about this switchblade turbo getting put on. This is going to be interesting!

worked at a mine and we had 19 637D's they all had 3408's in the front and 3306's in the back.
Keep up the great job and be safe
Hey Jeff. I know you're old school, but Tig brazing can be very nice for repairs. Yours looks really good though.
You need to bring the Wabco truck to the next truck show.
Geezz I reckon you might need to check your O-ring there Jeff... Ya almost did ya Poofu valve lifting that Injector pump in. Hahaha.

I love that Ponderosa music!!
Jeff
I saw the Blackhawk casting symbol on the sump area you was pointing at.🙂

Joe Black how would they know if you do mire than a 1000 mile
Blackhawk foundry was a block away from me EPA put 400 people out of work, had many friends that worked there.
When you're in chipmunk speak mode, how about a chorus of "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work I go" ?
I've seen several old EUCLID B-70 bottom dumps, now, repowered with Detroit Diesel Series 60's. They WORK...really good. 700 lbs lighter, more torque, quieter, almost zero smoke AND burn a LOT LESS FUEL than a "Buzzin Dozen."

Do you have any “small” pieces of equipment? Everything seems about as big as it comes with you.
That's what she said
Yes I have some small "Pieces" bits and pieces, been compensating for years☻
Great video Jay! That starter setup could help tons of people stay out of physical therapy and reduce RTV consumption considerably. So do you have to make a new intro every so often to make money? What gives? Thanks for all of your hard work!

just out of curiosity, what is the CAT part number on the radiator? Our company probably made it bahaha.

Not sure he's listening.
Well just replace the music with some Old Kenny sound bites. I could live with that 😂
20:24 why does that fuel line look like a crazy straw? All coiled up.
The is there to allow movement with out breaking the line
All six fuel injector lines are equally the same length with the coils.
nothing like doing it yourself, run it brake it fix it. sounds like our company. lol see ya start diggin
once you break enough shit youll eventually have a machine that wont break as often since you just about replaced and improved everything haha
A keep up the good work be carful lifting that leave stuff now I cann,t lift 60 pounds
Pat Browning is from Saint Clair, Missouri just so you know...
@Abom79 you have some competition
Awesome video Thank you for the up date. HEHEHE I opps the other comment
👍thanks for sharing.
I do believe if you do a cover of the music you can use it if you give a credit; how good are you with humming?
dum da de dum da dum dum, Ya I could do that☻
We're there any critters living in that old canal?😓
I think you need to use a mechanical lifter to reinstall that injector pump or whatever it is.
JBomb... Ha! very funny...
What are your boys going t do when you retire? Gosh you are the Wikipedia of CAT!
whats the update on old kenny
waiting her turn
I always battle leakage problems .
