    Instead of a nail put a strip of "two sided" sticky tape from bottom (where he put a nail) to top of curtain. When you push curtain against side of open window tape will hold curtain to side of window.

    • @HowToWithGEO

      There are AC units you can use indoors, but it’s not this kind. These kind of units discharge heat from the back and drip water. The indoor versions are more expensive.

    TIP: immediately after unboxing, and before installing the other parts, plug it in and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes to make sure it actually works. This way if you have to take it back to the store, you don't have a lot of pieces to take back off and repack. I learned this the hard way.

  • @kellybrothers2701
    @kellybrothers2701 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Quick Tip: Don't want to drill holes into any vinyl/wood? Buy some double-sided foam tape. I chose the 3M brand. It's has the green backing on it. Run that along the sides of the window where the flaps close. I left a little over hang on the inside so that after I close the sides I fold the tape backwards onto the plastic flaps to get a really good seal. I hope this helps!

      It can’t cause a leak. You should know what your talking about before commenting. What it does is the oil in the system runs down and out of the compressor. That’s why if it’s tilted for a long time it should be sat for 24hrs

    Old video but I must comment, in the first place, is the grade with an explanation. You receive a C+ the reason you received this grade is that you failed to complete the installation. In the second place, using foam insulation is important, it will help to minimize vibration and keep hot and cold air from migrating as well as insects.
    1. Place a piece of thin foam, or weather stripping on top of the air conditioner bar so the window seal will rest on top of it when closed, this will help to minimize the vibration between the two.
    2. Install window sash seal foam between the top of the windows, since the window cannot close all the way for an obvious reason. This leaves a gap not only allowing insects to get in but also allowing the hot and cold air to migrate.
    3. Also, use some weather stripping to seal around the bottom of the air conditioner, plus use some weather stripping on the accordion sliding panels.

    This video is very simplistic. And makes it easy to install however I did not know that my windows have safety locks and whoever installed the windows install the freaking Windows backwards so the weight of the air conditioner caused them to unlock and flip out not only did I break glass but I also broke the AC by falling six feet down to the ground. Now my husband and I are running around the house checking all of our windows and realized whatever window company installed these before we bought the house did them all incorrectly.

    what kind of lock did you put on top of the window? I want to buy it. Can't you place that lock on both sides of air conditioner so you don't have to put a nail in?

    I have a 118 year old house with old windows. No window A/C units work without having to rig something. My living room one, no matter what I do, the back is higher than the front. My window sill gets filled with water every year. I wish the A/C companies would make the top section movable so you can modify the angle of the piece that rests on the upper window. Because they don't fit correctly in all windows.
    I have to force my A/C in a certain way but the best it gets is level. Outside is never at a lower angle than the inside. So I had to drill holes in the bottom of tge A/C to let the water out before it gets high enough to leak into the window sill.

    THANK YOU!!! I’ve been burning up so badly in my first apartment and it has been torture and quite discouraging to enjoy my place. I’ve been trying to get maintenance to get me a unit and they finally did! But they didn’t install it so here I go!

    02:54 That part looks a little sketchy. Seems like I can shatter my window and drop the AC on someone's head on all in one moment. Should I be nervous during that step?
