I just impulse ordered another e-reader even though I already have one, so I can relate. The way I see it is, it's a harmless hobby. In fact, reading is really important and it is good for your brain. So I don't feel bad about buying something that helps me read more.

@angelsrosena If someone finds themselves “out of money because of . . .” buying books and Kindles, things went wrong LONG before they bought that Kindle. I’m not sure that the book or the Kindle is the issue. Maybe relax, read a book, touch some grass. Happy Reading.

Yep, I am one of the privileged many that have myopia and presbyopia. So font sizes are a key to successful reading. I have embraced the reading glasses, whether I like it or not. And now a whole new world has opened again for me, the same that I had when I was 19/20 and realized I needed glasses, and I could actually see the blades of grass again. Well, age caught up again, and now that sweet spot of holding a book in is now all blurred, requiring some additional magnification to see it clearly enough. And the less portable option for the visually challenged is to get a monster A4 13.3" tablet reader, like the BOOX family, and have it parked somewhere, and use either a wired headphone in the USB-C port (minus is forward, and plus is backward), or just a bluetooth page flipper device. But yep, I have found the enjoyment of the leanback and read position.

This is a great in depth video, Danielle. Did you know you can change the “name” of your kindle? I noticed your Kindle name is Danielle’s 17th Kindle. I like to name mine after some favorite book characters. My first kindle was a Gen 2. I named it Laura Ingalls Wilder after my favorite childhood author. I have two kindles right now, named Max de Winter and Elizabeth Bennet. Not really an important feature, but it’s a bit fun. Thanks for your channel, I’m a newer sub and am enjoying your content.

I had said on your Colorsoft video that I was waiting for my Colorsoft but something happened and it was late and they said I could keep waiting since they didn't know where the heck it was but I decided to cancel. I'll wait until next month and order when it's sorted out. But I did order the raspberry paperwhite non-signature edition and I've had it a few days and I love it! I can tell it's a little crisper and faster than my older paperwhite and the raspberry color is beautiful! So even though I'm disappointed waiting on my Colorsoft, I'm happy for the new paperwhite. :)

The Kindle is wonderful, since you can set up themes for your personal experience. I created one theme for when I'm wearing my reading glasses, and one when I don't have them on, so I can quickly get to the right setting for those occasions.
Now that the replacements have started shipping (I got mine a few days ago), I wonder if Amazon will be refurbishing the defective devices and selling them at a discount.

I never understood customer themes until you explained it. I have downloaded a lot of different fonts and I switch them between books. I find that I have to constantly reset it on this Paperwhite because it defaults to Bookly. Can’t wait to try that!
Thanks for the video! I now feel much more justified in my totally illogical desire to get myself a new Kindle even though the one I have (from 2021) works PERFECTLY fine. I mean, one could stay on my nightstand while I keep the other one with me in my purse, right?! 😅 Thanks for talking about how you like to set up your fonts, etc. I had totally overlooked the Bold options and now realize how nice it is to make the type stand out a little more for a better reading experience. Your video also made me realize that my device does not have a Bluetooth connection like yours seems to have. I am in Europe so I’m wondering if it’s something Amazon is doing deliberately with devices over here because, as far as I know, I don’t have the option to connect my Kindle to my Audible account. Paperwhite, BUT remember that I don’t use the Kobo as a writing tablet, and I use the remote control page turner on my Kindle, so I don’t take advantage of a lot of the things that people love about the Kobo.
I’m rounding back at this video. I bought a new kindle paperwhite 2024 not signature version and am considering trading up to a scribe 2nd version. Has anyone else done that? And do you find it useful?
I have the Scribe 2 (that's the new one, right?) and will be doing a video on it shortly. I LOVE it, but it is awkwardly big. I LOVE that it is big, but I do think that it limits the usefulness. For me, it's not very . . . protable? IDK if that's the right word. I love to use it when I'm sitting on the couch or at the table or something, but in the bed, on the bike, in the car . . . anywhere that I want to hold it in one hand or move around, I use a PaperWhite or smaller device.
May I ask if Amazon replaces these ebooks with the edited versions? I mean that there are people editing out the original author's words they feel are bad or unfair. For example Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. I stopped buying ebooks from Amazon because I cannot be sure I am getting the author's original works. Can you find out if they engage in that or if they leave them pure? I would love to go back to buying for my Paperwhite but for now I have stopped. I am an avid reader. By the way, you are delightful to watch and listen to. So glad the algorithm recommended your channel.

Unfortunately, I think the answer is no - the only way to be certain that you’re getting the pure, unedited work of the author is to buy the first edition of the text. You should be able to check the notes of Kindle books to see if they have been edited, but I’m not sure that that is always the case. Once you download the book onto your Kindle, if you don’t update it or re-download it, you won’t get edits, but I’m not sure that there’s a way to make sure that it’s not edited to begin with.
When I say “It costs nothing to look” what I mean is “it costs SOME PEOPLE nothing to look” . . . I’m NOT some people!! It ALWAYS costs me to look. You know was hooked from the first “w” of “www.amazon.com” 😂
