- If you've ever admired a beautiful fiberglass boat and wondered how it's made, then come along on this tour of the Steiger Craft Boat Factory and watch how 55-gallon drums of fiberglass resin are turned into fully equipped sport fishing machines! From hulls freshly popped from molds, to the fabrication of stringer systems, to the finishing touches, this tour shows everything that goes into well-built boats!
5:40 "no rigging is done until in the finish shop" that is awesome, i love that they are building the boats to be able to be maintained and fixed down the line
John...Steiger Craft came out just about the time I was starting my marine surveying career. They had some hiccups in the beginning like all recreational vessel manufacturers do. But the fact they were being purchased mostly by charter captains and law enforcement says a lot about their durability and the quality of the components they use. In my 38 years in the profession I do not ever remember handling a claim on a Steiger Craft due to a hull issue. They are not the glitziest or most trendy but when the weather turns snotty and you have to get home through a nasty inlet there are very few vessels made as competent in the task of getting you safely to your dock. It is probably one reason you find very few of them for sale on the used market.
Just bought my first boat. Steiger 23 Chesapeake 1989. Love her to death
Thank you for this John. Excellent shop and product. It was a thrill to see the works!
They should give you one to put through it's paces. Great for the fishing community to see.
That was a treat, thank you. I like Steigercraft boats, especially the Chesapeake.
I toured there factory 20 years ago. Someday May b I’ll own one. Truly designed to fish the north east.
Nice tour. Thank you for bringing us along.
Pretty cool video seeing how they are built.
Great video ... Good to know that they are built in our backyard!
Time for a Steigercraft 21 Classic!
Nice. This company definitely is on the short list for my next boat.
Very informative video. Thanks John.
So interesting!! And really like the stay point and drift point. Next boat tho 😂
Cool stuff !! Only 97 days until Fluke season !! Yippie !!
It's amazing how strong fiberglass actually is.
Great video John, and greetings from Long island sound.
Skinner: I want to see a mold.
Yurcak: Here's a hull.
6:12 Looks like the hull sides are balsa cored as well.
That 25' CC hull looks sweet. John, you seemed interested in that one.
Hi John myself and someone you know live 4 blocks away from that factory. Bob Singer says hi.
Sorry John. It's Bob Sing not singer. I don't know why my phone does that.
Awesome cool....I think one would look good in the bay fish on..
That was a nice tour, John. Any chance you could arrange a tour of the Parker facility so that we can compare the assembly line and what the parts and pieces are made of and look like? Oh, if there’s an extra 28’8 dual outboard sitting around let me know and when you come back north we can go out.
John you're allowed to take the go-pro off your head when your not fishing. Great boats, would have loved to see them in frame.
When are you getting yours?
Just saw you coast guard video, pretty funny bc I’m stationed at montauk right now
I have a 28 miami. LOVE the boat but I will say it does drift straight into the current where my old boat would drift more sideways into the current. While the steiger is incredibly stable at drift not only because if this, but also the 10ft beam, it does make fishing a drift with 4 guys a little difficult. All the lines want to scope out behind the transom and the bracket and motors add a lot of length. That would be my only criticism of the boat. Other than that fast, efficient, and great ride all while keeping me dry and warm.
I hate being deceived! "The only plywood is in the transom".....then they show a boat with at least four other sections with plywood!
I agree. The piece near the bow could have been temporary... but the Plywood in the bottom looked glassed in.
John, can you go out on that new boat they are testing to see how it all works with only 1 engine? Please?
Ohhh boy is John going to get a new boat ?!?!?!
A "new" 30-year-old boat soon.
Love a fishing boat like that. I have to admit that I’m surprised they use wood anymore in any part of the boat. They have to durable with commercial guys using them.
The only thing wood is used in is the transom mount
I really like their boats. I also like the Parkers, any chance you could do a comparison?
I'm the wrong person to do that. You should ask Jigging Jerks (Halkias).
Parkers are wood stringers. Just bought by new owners. No longer family owned and price went up significantly
🤔11:48 that’s your boat too..... did somebody get a sponsor? I love my 23 Chesapeake.
He was talking to the salesman off camera.
When do you pick up yours John?
Now they can 3D print a boat in couple of days but they should use fiber reinforced filament which is not cheap.
Stuff dreams are made of
4 weeks more like 4 months, had one, John surprised your advertising for them.
You and your Jigging buddies are killing me. Is this a journey or a destination? For crying out loud, ya bastard. Where's the money shot?
I was going to buy a sea hunt and I went to the factory thay would not let me film. When people compare Steiger to Parker people preferred Parker. Steiger looks like it’s built like a tank so you better have the horses 🐎
Life time Hull warranty.. Does that include a lifetime Transom warranty ??
He said the only thing wood in our voats is the transom then goes to the next boat ,plywood bulkhead and plywood in the hull bottom
@@kevcol123 Obsolete construction techniques(plywood) and dude wants to hide that reality.
What do you say John? Did you pull the trigger on the big 25?
Could you see me with a 25? Too much boat for me.
Next weeks video: Testing out my new Steiger Craft!
Hey skinner can you use those small bucktails for inshore fluke fishing?
Definitely. They've got the right gamakatsu hooks for that, plus a double-barbed collar to hold the gulp.
where was you fishing when you was catching blake fish this year
you need them to give you one to replace yours.
The vid is god, but it gets better around 6:14. ♪♫
"Yeah, we got yer cap'n hull. What could possibly go wrong with that?..
careful not to get copyrighted for the music
Have u ever thought about fishing the canal
255 Tournament...hmmm
It may be time
Not the friendliest of sales mangers...Needs to listen to questions being asked...Basic sales 101...They hiring...?..LOL
I thought he was great. He explained a lot without me asking.
“I need a boat sponsor”....”John Skinner”
Me too....😅
my buddy bought a new Steiger Craft Boat (I/O) and sat too low in the water and water would flood the deck thru the scuppers
Was there any compensation from the company?
@@zerozero113 .....not that i know of ..i will ask him the next time i see him.
@@fishin360 thanks if you can remeber to ask that would be awesome kicking the idea of buying one but reading that is kind of concerning
@@zerozero113 don’t get me wrong it’s a beautiful boat. And this was quite a few years ago. If there’s a particular model that you like go check it out while it’s in the water and see how it sits, You’ll know right away. If it’s an outboard model and you plan to wet slip it, I would also make sure that when the motors are in full tilt position that they’re not touching the water ...drives me nuts LOL.
What model do you like?
are you planning to bye? one
I have a 30-year-old flats skiff in progress.
Hi john, excuse me, you may have filmed your video badly, you are half-showing things to us, we have to rectify that. be well and stay safe
Helm master is very loud.
Camera angle was just a bit low. Kind of aggravating.
So what one is John taking home 🤔
I have a ton of experience on steigers and unfortunately their build quality is pure shit. The bow rail rusted, bracket leaked, windshield and top leaked, side windows got stuck shut, front hatch leaked
I'm buying a Stubicraft 2750 safest Boat on any 🌊 Water this boat is Trash
