The parable of the prodigal son may be the most touching and best remembered of all the parables in the bible.
The essence of the story can be interpreted as this: YOU are the father.
Your older son is your intellect, trying to reconcile a prosaic and material world. The prodigal son is your audacity, venturing out into the world to find out what it’s all about.
In his recklessness and sense of adventure, the prodigal son finds that he can’t escape himself, so he has to return to himself; at which point he must accept who he is. The older brother fails to understand the significance of this journey.
In the end, you must leave yourself to fully understand the true value of yourself.

@@remlya you are wrong. The fact that you’re sentient, you have rationale, the fact that morals exist, a sense of justice and truth. These all point to an intelligent designer.
Everything you see has been created, from a car, to a building, to a pencil; if you saw a painting in the middle of a forest with no other human around you, even without seeing the painter, you would conclude there was a painter. How much more the sea, animals , the intricacy of the human eye, the complexity and wonders of the universe and galaxy’s, they point to a creator. This is not a story. It is a parable told by Jesus in Luke Chapter 15. All people think they are the elder son mentiond in the parable when in reality they are the younger son. The story tells us that on true repentance God forgives all our sins and it is not based on fictitious things like Karma which even the Jews believed at one time.

The son who returns, having recognized his mistake, learns to obey the father for the right reasons. The son who never departed, obeyed the father for the wrong reasons (as indicated by his envious indignation), so he is unable/unwilling to recognize his mistake.

@@vandanamadan9842 no, I just mean that the prodigal has an advantage. His sin is more obvious, thus easier to repent. The best course is to obey for the right motivations. When judgement day comes, there will be many long time believers who struggle with seeing prodigals find salvation. Perhaps they are as eager for the damnation of others as they are for the salvation of themselves. They may find themselves unable to join the feast.

The parable was directed at the pharasees, and started out a man had two sons..the elder brother represents the religious works people of the past, and of the present. Yes, both sons were lost, but the elder brother could not see that fact, and that all his works were not done out of love for the father, for his response clearly showed he was doing them for himself. ..this enraged the pharasees, who always believed they had it right, and everybody else got it wrong..
This religious attitude is not the gospel, and is a manifestation if the fallen image, ego.God hates Pride, but the welcome mat was out for both sons, the elder did not think he needed it..
The religious dead works are prevalent in the church today...people still try to save themselves thru performance standards, which the elder brother believed he was exemplary in.

I am this prodigal son, along my youth I left my Father and went my own way, completely ruining and corrupting myself with all nature of sin and self pleasures in this world. When I hit rock bottom and the verge of suicide I made the only decision I had, I would try to return to my Father, with a repentant heart and ask for forgiveness and to be nothing more than his servant. As soon as I turned to him he covered me with his arms and the blood of Christ who died for me, instead of punishment he made sure i knew that I was His son. He has taken me far from that place and blessed me far more than I deserve. You are never too far to turn from your sins and come home to the Lord. God bless you all in Jesus name.

His turn around is something to encourage and celebrate. The other son seems to have underestimated how much is father is willing to give him and has major Cain parrallel in his character in spouting jealousy

    • @RichEdwards

He overstates his own obedience, slanders his brother (who he refused to acknowledge as his brother), resents that his brother was saved (by grace and not like his hard work) and overall fails to live up to his responsibilities as an older heir to keep the family together. He believes he can earn his way to righteousness, and there is no place for the brother who has now realized that it's only through grace we are redeemed. He is a "bad" brother, and story ends abruptly without the audience knowing if they are reconciled.

This is such a wonderful and heart- touching story of the Bible. But it can easily be transferred to our modern or personal lives, in which a person gets lost after having fallen into depression or having gone through a deep trauma. As soon as he has overcome the trauma and is back into life we should celebrate his comeback just in the same way as the Prodigal son who has always been loved by his father.

People like this parable because up front it is a touching story about forgiveness and redemption, and it is, but perhaps many don't realize that they are the prodigal son, running from the father and living sinfully, and until they realize that they need to flee to him and plead for forgiveness they will see it as no more than a heart warming story. It is very sad how drenched our culture is in pride and self righteousness, were that they would humble themselves, repent and trust alone in Christ Jesus, and they would be saved. God bless you all.

The parable is about the 2 sons. As the faithful son and his bad attitude. But in listening to this, it shows you The father's attitude...which is God's. When we sin and make mistakes. God is more interested in helping us up and setting us right
Not shaming and degrading us. So we can always go to Him for help and forgiveness.

“And you were dead in your offenses and sins, in which you previously walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all previously lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the rest.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ ( by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus…”
    Ephesians 2:1-6

This story talks about our love for sin(lust-watching porn equal to adultery, hate=murder) and since we have lied, stolen and broken all God's commandments(10 laws) and we have a conscience that we know what we have done is wrong and deserve nothing but God's punishment but jesus on the cross for our faults and sin so that we could have life as a free gift and once you believe in jesus and repent(change your ways) God will give you a new heart and new desire(to desire him) " , Joh 3:16-19 GW 16 God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. 18 Those who believe in him won't be condemned. But those who don't believe are already condemned because they don't believe in God's only Son. 19 This is why people are condemned: The light came into the world. Yet, people loved the dark rather than the light because their actions were evil. I Am not supporting religion, mormonism, catholicism, etc but about life when you read the bible you will find a huge difference between the bible and religion Please watch this video it will make more sense th-cam.com/video/ChWiZ3iXWwM/w-d-xo.html

What I find most interesting about this parable is that almost everyone exclusively focuses on the younger son. Yes, the younger son is important from the unsaved's point of view, but the older son is also a warning in how us Christians shouldn't think or act towards the sons and daughters that have accepted the Love and Grace of our God and Savior. They have returned to where they need to be and we should be as joyous as our Father for that alone.

Actually what it should teach you is the difference in attitude of those who humble themselves and those who do not, those who are forgiven much and those who are forgiven little. This world honors the extrovert even if he or she is a complete dirt bag. It will not honor nor accept you when you begin to look within. Most people are too scared of what others think or say about them to pursue wisdom. The Highway belongs to the Righteous and Heaven is their kingdom.

The point of these is not to make more Christians its to share the value of a good message just as all the other religious good messages we can all use
