- Tonight I have the privilege of casting a game between the 2nd highest ever WC3 player in terms of tournament earnings, Orc player Lianpia, aka Lyn, and new Night Elf challenger KAHO, who wasn't even born when the game came out! Let's get into this epic generational clash!

It's so tragic that WC3 has such a dedicated professional community and yet Blizzard is too incompetent to provide them with either a sufficiently upgraded version of WC3 or WC4.

wc3 is truly a unique RTS, crazy it was created so "long ago" and was so successful while also having such bold differences from other RTS of the time. I have played star craft and aoe, but most of my generic RTS knowledge fails to apply to WC3. The whole point of army staying at 50 but still getting stronger was super cool, and also the side point about mana regen delves into the territory of mana units being historically a pain to balance in other RTS but in WC3 they are baked into the design so there are more options to overcome the efficiency of mana units.

I mean he should have sent the Chims to Lyn's base and researched Corrosive. It doesn't make sense for them to fight. And they died in seconds, wasn't expecting that.
Gonna be honest, i was never a fan of watching RTS games with casters but master Grubby is an exception, he makes it really really fun and educational

Lyn is the only player in the history of WC3 that can make Happy rage-quit without saying "gg". I will never forget that series where Lyn beat Happy 3-0 with only grunts and kodos one game, then mass wyverns the second game, and then with only raiders.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. When Lyn is "on", he is scary, scary strong. As someone that has watched professional WC3 since 2005, I think that I have never seen a Grandfinal of a majour tournament as one-sided as the 2019 WGL Winter GH between these two. The one game that Happy won was really close, but the other 3 that Lyn won he just stomped him into the ground. The reason why I mention this is that most pro players can barely win a map against Happy, so to watch Happy can dominated on 3 maps in one series is brutal.
For instance, at the Huya Super League in 2020, Infi was also able to beat Happy 3-0. But the difference is that all games were super-long, super-pclose and Infi won with macro and tank cheese. The same can be said for all the times that 120 has beaten Happy in mirror. It's always close, and 120 has to work really hard for it and Happy usually wins 2-3 maps when he loses.
Lyn is the only player that has beaten Happy in a "GTFO of my game, kid". That last game with only raiders was ridiculous. Lyn with only raiders beat an Undead army with 3 heroes and two of them level 4 or higher, several dextros and aboms. Lyn only a FS and Shadow Hunter. That hex on the DK just so that that FS chould kill the Lich with CL at the end was absurd.
Love the commentary, keep the good work. I wish you had a lot of more views and subs, but thats on people.

Kaho was born in 1999. Warcraft 3 came out in 2002, and expansion TFT in 2003.

My impression of the game was that Kaho is a very typical representative of what I'd call the ... *"Eager new pro"* Syndrome. Signs of this are the following:
Despite excellence in speed of mechanical skills such as micro, resource management, creeping, and unit composition, *he still LACKS* the strategic vision and psychological presence.
This mental composure and grand-view strategic assessment is *absolutely necessary* for the purposes of knowing when, where and HOW to force a game's end, --
-- as well as for actually being *optimally PRACTICAL* regarding your on-the-spot in-game decisions and long-term tactical/strategic aims.

The turning point in the game?? 13:05.
Let me explain what the correct course of action for Kaho at this specific point in time would have been:
1) Consume Mana stone and Entangle BM when he lands from the Cyclone.
--- He won't die, as SH is nearby, ready to heal-wave and save him, but it's *STILL worth it* to damage BM as much as possible and waste SH's mana, to gain time for action # 3).
2) Lyn sends other units to BM's aid, which save the BM, but exposes *THEM* to focus fire and entangle, AND Faerie-fire, thus making Orc waste EVEN MORE mana, and giving vision of his units.
--- (needless to say, Lyn's own units are way too damaged, whereas Kaho's are way too healthy for this to go ANY OTHER WAY than to even more material *gained* for Kaho, and more *LOST* by Lyn)
3) While doing as much damage as possible before retreating, in the back of this start building hunter's hall for the purposes of getting Ultravision and Wellspring upgrades.
4) After retreat from the Orc base, head to bottom right Red spot (big Ogre). Lyn will be too damaged and busy recovering to be able to contest.
5) From here on out, everything that happens is conditional, but ONE thing is certain: Kaho is immeasurably ahead already.
--- Whatever action Lyn undertakes, (the likeliest of which is to creep his own expansion and then head to Kaho's in an attempt to bring it down / force a fight), he'll be at the disadvantage.
6) Kaho just needs to play cool and normally, not making any serious errors, and it's *GG.*
*ADDITIONALLY,* the starting of an expansion at all, slightly before that time mark, would have been a dubious decision even in the best of situations.
From my experience, getting the associated upgrades from the Hunter's hall and having two or three EXTRA moonwells has always been a practically better choice for this particular NE build.

WP by Lyn, but can't speak that well for Kaho:
As already said earlier, he still lacks that mental composure that comes with age, experience and veterancy.
It is precisely THAT which prevented him from closing this game correctly and capitalizing optimally on his small-time temporary victories over Lyn throughout the course of the game.

Thus, in general, I would judge this game as *maaaaayybe* NOT the best choice by Grubby for a game worthy of a dedicated commentary.
Trust me, from my point of view of an experienced veteran who's been in the scene since 2004:
*Game was decided in Lyn's favor the moment Kaho chose to just ... RUN AWAY, with NO planned followup in mind, at **13:05**.*
Perhaps not 100%, but at least 80% or so. Kaho *still* could have gone for HH at that point in the game and *maybe* stand some small chance, but it's debatable.

yeah they take a lot more damage to be honest. i think they are usable as soon some meta units change around but they aren't as good as they used to be.

The argument that "Even if TC gets burned, he still has Endurance" works for SH also: Even if SH gets burned he still has *"SERPENT WARDS"* which are at a laughably low mana cost.

He actually did, look at 22:25. You need to realize that these are pro players, Lyn absolutely know what his opponent's DH was trying to do in these scenarios. When playing against a pro player, you don't always get to do what you want to do, because these pro players will react accordingly.
In the last fight the Shadow Hunter got one burn, then he use up all his mana, so there is no more reason for DH to mana burn him. Then after surrounding DH ensuring that DH will never mana burn him again, he consumed his mana pot to start casting serpent wards again.

Bro saying that mana regen or army value changes outside of traditional macro/eco is unique to WC3 and comparing it to Starcraft, where the number of storms you have on a high templar vastly changes its value and all races absolutely have healing, seems a little odd 🤔
There are literally tons of techs in that game that give you increased mana on unit spawn... so obviously value changes over time
the value is much lower because if you need storm, just warp in a templar. if you need mana for the zerg mosquito, then suck the hatchery. in war3 its a muuuch more crucial concept. also there isnt as much mana units in that game anyway.
Didn't they remove that Templar upgrade? It was on wolf, but it's obviously was overpowered as you could warp in ht with storm ready anywhere thx to prism/proxy
@@StarStew Sucking the hatchery is an example of the unit's value changing over time outside of combat - isn't exactly what he's saying is unique to WC3, that they gain value outside of combat as other resources regenerate?
Now I'll take as true that there is a bigger pool of value to regain in warcraft 3, and it takes longer. It makes management of those resources more strategic arguably. But I think that's more related to the slow, micro-heavy nature of the combat in WC3 compared to SC2. Don't want to spend a long time regenning mana on a unit that can so easily be 1 shot.

I like grubby but he’s painting a picture that he’s neck and neck with Lin. Not even close. No way he takes a single map off him in a competitive game. Especially orc v orc.
