Those are some great comparisons, between bullets driven at standard velocities, vs hair on fire. I'm also super impressed with Speer, the Gold Dot bullets really hold together.

Those 55gr would absolutely do the job on hogs and deer. Sure, would be nice to have 100% weight retention, but loosing 10-15 grs off the 55gr starting weight is still excellent.
They would 100% be okay for deer. First couple deer I took when I was 8 was with a 22-250 because of the low recoil and how accurate I was with it. I know that just some standard federal 55gr blue box will kill deer quickly at 20-225 yards so these would do even better.
Shannon, your scale reminded of the video you did where you compared scales and showed that some scales may not move when you trickle at low weights. I was on Lyman's Website and Lyman has issued a RECALL on 2 of their scales for that very reason. I just thought I would pass that on.

Man I love these bullets, I wish they were more available, just have to find them when they come in I guess. Shot a hog recently down in Texas with a 168 grain out of a 308 and the bullet performed excellently, little 40lber shot down through it's backside and out the bottom of the chest. Opened that thing up like a zipper up the middle.
Hmmmm... using the .300 Blackout 150gr Gold Dots, I could add another 100 yards to the max distance I'd be willing to harvest a deer from, assuming that I am able to find a load that my rifle likes. The current ammo of choice (.308 Winchester Federal 150gr Core-Lokt) I limit myself to 300 yards endure enough velocity to achieve reliable expansion. At about 400 yards, the bullet would be reaching the energy lower limit I have chosen to limit myself to. I'm impressed with how well these bullets have held together at the velocities you tested them at. Excellent job, good Sir!
Me and the fellas we just talking about light weight, high velocity 22-250 and magnums for defeating armor yesterday…. If I were wearing armor,I think I’d be more worried about a good ol’boy with a dialed in varmint rig above most anyone else…. I'm very biased because I own a 300 win mag, so I love seeing what different bullets of different weights will do, especially behind different powder charges. It's amazing because you can load the 300 win mag for any game at all. You could shoot coyotes with it or you can shoot grizzlies with it. It doesn't care it will take them all!
Those gold dots are impressive. I'd really like to see some more videos with copper bullets (preferably in 6.5 Grendel, once they become available, some day in the distant future), I can't hunt with lead in my state, so copper is it.
To me, this is the exact reason I only hunt big game with solid copper, bonded or partitioned bullets. These thin walled bullets such as the eld series from Hornady and the GameKing from Sierra just don’t hold up. They don’t do all that bad in gel, but when they hit bone they completely blow apart. I don’t want a complete energy dump in my whitetail or elk. I’d like to save as much meat as possible and have complete penetration. I’m a Barnes guy, but also really like the GoldDot, Accubond, Partition, InterBond, A-Frame, ect….. Now, if I could only get more primers, so I could shoot more. I went from shooting 1000+ rifle rounds a year to maybe 100 conserving what primers I have left. Makes me sick 🤕
I've had good results with the speer deep curl (flat lead not hollowpoint version) 240 grain in .44 magnum and they are also a fair bit cheaper than the gold dots. Peel back nicely and basically lose no mass from 20 inch barrel.
I want to test some bullets from maker rex. They have a 125 grain expanding 300 blackout bullet as well as some various weight expanding .223 bullets. I have a 9" 300 black out and a 10.5" 5.56. I want to see how those perform in gel out of short barrel lengths.
I feel the sun changed the color of the blocks while testing. Going from 22 250 to 223 it got darker. Hit the blocks with a torch lightly and it melts just the wrinkles out if the sided of the blocks.
That's fantastic. Still pretty interested in the .22-250 with gold dots. If they can hold together at muzzle velocities. You'll be maximizing performance of the round down range at 150 or 200 when they're still at the muzzle velocities of an AR.
Took a muley buck at 250 yds with a 75 gdsp out of a .22-250. Bullet was still traveling at about 2600 fps or roughly MV of a .223. Hit shoulder, cracked a rib, lungs=mush, & exited the other side just behind shoulder. Deer ran bout 20'. Punches above it's weight for sure.
I think I have some of those 55 grain GD left some place. I may just cork some 223WSSM brass with them and see how they do north of 4000 ft/sec just for fun.
I've had the weird idea to try the Barnes 110 or 120 tac bullets they make for 300 BLK in a 308 for a while. Is there any chance you might load a few and try them on your new gell?
It would've been pretty cool to see what those 120gr Gold Dots would do out of a 6.5 Creedmoor also... I know with the 120gr Barnes TTSX bullets I'm getting over 3000fps and I have a good bit less case capacity with those all coppers compared to a Gold Dot. But can't wait to see how these are going to do!!!
Well those 55gr Gold Dots were impressive I was still expecting them to blow apart. Bonded or not once you get them going fast enough especially when you don't have much to start with I figured they were going to blow apart. I love these bullets!!!
@@antdawgg9923 5 of my 6 deer last year was killed with the 120gr Gold Dots out of my 20 inch 6.5 Grendel... @@WayStedYou Most definitely... I keep 55gr Gold Dots in my short barreled AR's. I don't have the money to spend on gel blocks but I get really good expansion on water jugs at 100 yards along with nearly 100% weight retention.
Using 20% is fine if you just looking for deformation but the big thing with gel tests is repeatability, verifiably, and a consistent medium to compare to. Changing the density means none of the data here can be compared to anything but other 20% gel tests which vert few do
I never hear much about Speer. It seems everyone goes gaga for Hornady, Sierra, Barnes etc. I have used Speer BTSP regularly and find they work very well in 308, 30-06, and 300 Win Mag.

Eh copper bullets have been nothing but disappointment in terms of terminal performance for me. Just zip through without doing much damage and cause bad blood trails or lost game on what should have been a bang flop.
@@awbernardy I tried to like them because a buddy convinced me with xray pictures of lead fragments and good penetration etc. I tried the ttsx's in a 257 wby, 7mm, and 340wby, factory ammo and reloads, different lot numbers, and they all let me down. Ended up losing a 400+ lb bear and 3-4 hour track jobs on deer. All of them were in the sweet spot for impact velocity at around 2600-3000 fps but they just didnt seem to expand at all. One buck I took at 350 yards with the 257 entered at the last rib and came out right behind the shoulder with a 257 dia exit and zero blood to the point I was just about to give up before I stumbled upon it. So I stay away from anything copper because partitions, accubonds, or even eldx's give much better terminal performance and I dont think lead frag is really an issue with anything other than varmint bullets.

Looking to get into reloading myself for the riffles that I have and kind of curious on a couple of ideas I have for the one caliber that I have. I am contemplating 350 legend loads and was curious as to how it would perform using standard 9mm bullets that are just under the .355 diameter spec that is called for in loading a 350 legend or abut using bullets intended for loading in a 357 magnum pistol in the actual .355 bullet diameter spec but using solid brass projectiles instead of bonded or jacketed lead rounds. I am curious as to how they would perform in my AR350 legend riffle with a 16 inch barrel. I currently do not have any reloading equipment yet so I am asking before I go out and buy a bunch of equipment and powder and stuff so that I know what to expect and what I should be using to start down the road in reloading my own ammo. I also have a .308 ruger american riffle and a .45acp carbine that I would also possible like to reload for as well.
Looks like theyd be perfect 308win bullets. I’m thinkin the normal GD/Fusion wouldnt be needed at those velocities. Might even give you more “knock down” power from the quicker expansion. Kinda a quasi monolithic without the price tag
Oh another killer light goofball load for 300 win. 125gr nosler 70gr h100 win case and cci 250. Have no idea how fast they're going. But no pressure signs grouped right at 3/4 moa and my barrel sounded like a tuning fork lol
Do you have a video of the specs of your ar 10 and the krieger barrel. I want to get me one but I don't want to order the wrong stuff I've never built a ar 10
My buddy used to load his 44 mags so damn crimped you'd think a gorilla ran the press. Never seemed to cause much trouble, but wouldn't feed in a 94 from the huge ridge the crimp would make. Revolver didn't seem to care
I shoot Gold Dots in 120gr 6.5 Grendel and 140gr 6.5CM. They work great, but not the most accurate bullet in these two rifles. Not bad accuracy for hunting though.
I've been entertaining the idea of picking up a Savage 110 PCS (pistol chassis 110 with a 10 inch barrel) in 308 and using a reduced load with that 300 BLK Gold Dot around 2200-2300 fps, wonder if I'd get optimal expansion out of that bullet at those velocitys...

Shannon have you ever used gordons reloading tool or quickload? I'm getting 3100 fps with a 77 grain bullet in a 223 wylde bolt gun 26inch barrel
Oh another killer light goofball load for 300 win. 125gr nosler 70gr h100 win case and cci 250. Have no idea how fast they're going. But no pressure signs grouped right at 3/4 moa and my barrel sounded like a tuning fork lol
Was the use of the Magneto Speed because of the velocity orr because....meh why not...I'm feeling it's a Magneto Speed day?
When you said 80 grains, I thought you misspoke. That’s a metric buttload.
A pound of powder goes quick!
Can we see the 150 blk ones in 308?
Wish they would make a 125 for 300 blk. Please use 20 percent gel as catch block. Please spend more time on damage path.
I love my Hardcore Funnels. I got a bunch of them
Off subject I'm building a 6.5 grendel. I have an 18in aero precision barrel and can't decide what bcg to go with. Any suggestions.
As Frank Zappa said, speed kills.
Thanks
Do you have a video of the specs of your ar 10 and the krieger barrel. I want to get me one but I don't want to order the wrong stuff I've never built a ar 10
So are gold dots king in your experience?
is over crimping a bullet just bad for accuracy or can it also be dangerous to shoot?
My buddy used to load his 44 mags so damn crimped you'd think a gorilla ran the press. Never seemed to cause much trouble, but wouldn't feed in a 94 from the huge ridge the crimp would make. Revolver didn't seem to care
@@jacobackley502 thanks alot!
I shoot Gold Dots in 120gr 6.5 Grendel and 140gr 6.5CM. They work great, but not the most accurate bullet in these two rifles. Not bad accuracy for hunting though.
Why is it so hard for you guys to run a strap over the gel blocks so they don’t jump off the tables ?
What’s the fastest you can push an all copper bullet?
Sha-BOOOOOM!!!!
How is there no comment about the ladybug climbing the powder dropper 😂
Is that a Corelle brand bowl?
Barnes 30 cal Bullets next? I’d even send you some
I've been entertaining the idea of picking up a Savage 110 PCS (pistol chassis 110 with a 10 inch barrel) in 308 and using a reduced load with that 300 BLK Gold Dot around 2200-2300 fps, wonder if I'd get optimal expansion out of that bullet at those velocitys...
I was wondering the same thing. I will put it on the list of stuff to test!
😎👍 interesting
👍👍
Buttt what about the .22-250?
Want see 6.5 prc testing
How did you get Reloader 26?!
I would love to see either one of those calibers with those velocities smack a yote, that would turn them inside out!!!
👍😎
This one has killed more than a few deer in 308 Winchester in northern Minnesota
Where did you get that small scale?
Amazon amzn.to/3JMr3cU
Would love to see vid of testing they’re BC numbers! Definitely scewed and higher than they really are!
That's damn lady bugs are EVERYWHERE!!! THEY ARE TAKING OVER THE SOUTH EAST!!!
I can't wait for it to warm up so they'll be gone for the summer. The stink bugs and the lady bugs are a yearly plague.
@@JohnnysReloadingBench i know, I'm not sure how they get into this but they are all over the place. I'll take ladybugs over mosquitoes any day of the week though!
Speer Gold Dot's are the best bullets on the market period.
Gold dots are bada@&.. just like johnny. Or is it Shannon 🤷🏻♀️
How do they bond the cores to the jacket on these?
