Ppl often say to me how "lucky" I am, or have been, as life arranges itself in ways that look like favoritism from onlookers. This happening is nearly everyday while practicing the path of purity, which is a perspective of these 8 points.

I can say this: there is no proper understanding. Everyone experiences differently, thus every understanding will be different depending on your experience.
Likewise, there is no such thing as a 'proper thought'......well, unless you believe that one way of thinking is better than the other, then, i assure you, you are in trouble. Lol ;)
The right speech? You gotto be kidding me? LOL
The right this, the right that, it's all just nonsense, my friends. These can only lead to experience more of a feeling of being 'stuck'' given the limitations that exist within these beliefs. There is no one right way for anything. You are here exploring, and however you go about your exploration, whatever conclusions you come up with, it's your own experience, your own conclusions. Don't try to tell another that your way is the way cos, truly, again, there is no one right way. However you go about yourself and your life is always the right way. And, if for some reason you no longer like your ways, go ahead and change them.

@@jjrecon3024 I assure you, the path of "purity" is nothing more than pure indoctrination. This idea and concept is based on religious beliefs that do nothing more than create more limitations for self. This i can tell you: you are already that which you think you lack and are looking for outside of you.

I really feel the "right livelihood." I work at a casino. Every day I see people numbed out and wasting themselves away. It was what I could get at the time to pay rent. In the future, when things are more secure, I would like to do something environmental, or helping others. I'm not sure yet. As I develop I am sure the solution will present itself. Videos like this help. Thank you ❤❤

Don't be afraid to take the leap, your future starts now. Find a different path and move in that direction.
For me it was finding online courses for User Interface design, making user interfaces friendlier and more accessible for people. I enjoy it much more and there are numerous paths you can take to get into it.

Contemplation is key. When we are ignorant of others suffering, we fail to have compassion. With right concentration, comes right view. With right view, comes right understanding.

    • @CarschA

If you are ignorant of others suffering, it is then that you do not understand suffering. One cannot blame you, for most likely that you don't have that experience in you for you to tell. Likewise, you cannot have compassion if you do not understand what compassion is. And i assure you, with right concentration nothing can come out of it if you don't have the experience of what you're trying to understand through 'concentration'. Likewise, for you to have the right 'view', you need to have the experience which leads to the understanding of whatever you are seeking to understand. Sorry to say, but most of these monks don't know much, for they don't have much experience other than sitting down and contemplate what they don't understand through experience. It's all beautiful words, but all they're doing is just reciting.

@@CarschA - the Buddha, or that last Buddha, for there have been many Buddhas, but the most recent was the Buddha who lived about 2,500 years ago, 500 years before Christ. But he is the one who devised the 4 Noble Truths and the 8 Fold Path. If you know anything about his journey he started as a Prince in the kingdom and his father conspired to make every day of his so enjoyable that he would never want for anything. But one day he left the palace gates and went out into the city. There he saw people suffering in many ways. While he himself had never experienced any suffering he could still see that people were struggling and not happy. And so began his quest to really understand this aspect of life known as suffering which everyone in a natural environment seemed to succumb to.
His life was artificially intentionally made to be "perfect" by his father. But the Buddha had a natural and innate ability to see suffering for what it was even though he had not experienced it. He then undertook some of the greatest suffering any human being could possibly put themselves through. In that way I can agree with what you are saying that to really understand it you have to experience it. But still even before that he could understand it to some degree. It's not always necessary for everyone to experience the extremes that the Buddha had gone through. In fact he told people that those extreme aesthetic practices were a waste of time and that the "middle path" was the best path to enlightenment.
When people decide to become a monk they are often put through many challenges and hardships to complete tasks no normal human being would consciously or intentionally put themselves through. So by that account I would say you cannot conclude they never experienced suffering, it's actually built into the practice of being a monk, at least in many of the various Buddhist, Hindu and even Christian aestheticism practices. It's easy to sit back and think monks have it easy, but that is not what my research has told me from the monks I have known or read about.
      Thank you and Namaskar!

@@jn846 Did you know that many go through hardship and yet never learn anything about their experiences? I could care less who the person is, Buddha, Jesus or whomever. :) If what you are telling me does not resonate with my truth and my understanding of reality, then regardless of what you've been through, or what you've done with your life, your truth is probably nothing more than nonsense to me. BTW, i do know about the Buddha's journey and everything else about him. Buddha, and the many other religious and spiritual teachers, never appealed to me. It's been always beliefs, their beliefs, nothing more. I look beyond beliefs, beyond what most want to take for granted and believe to be the truth. Needless to say, beautiful words without any real content do not appeal to me. :)

I have been to the villages where the Buddha preached the noble eight fold path. In fact there are several villages with that name. Very educative. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

@@bridget7890 We're all one and the same. Thus, you need not think of yourself or see yourself as a gift for the other, for you already are that! Now, just be the gift that you are for yourself. That's the best anyone can do. By doing so, you are automatically doing the other part, which is, being also a gift for everyone else. But this cannot happen if you're not doing your part, which, again, is to be the gift that you are for your own self. No need to project outside when the outside is already you.......or you'll create separation which doesn't really exist but through our perception.

I say this not to refute what he said because i believe that we can acquire the light from any enlightened human that preceded us, and maybe it is even possible to develop your own personal light. Jesus, the buddha, shiva, any light will take you to heaven. The narrative of the bible is that we are prisoners on this earth. It is lack of knowedge that keeps us from understanding how to escape.
Example: Elijah the prophet got carried into heaven with his physical body. He was a very hard man and was the example we had to follow according to Jesus Christ and John the baptist.
hard work is part of the equation, but the real knowledge we must seek is: how to strengthen our spirit and soul up while we are alive in the body so that we can escape this cycle of suffering.
We all walk in the dark my friend. Let the one who has the light lead us into this path that we have to fulfill individually each in his own body. The broad way leads to destruction but the narrow path leads to eternal life. The broad way is the external world. The narrow path is the internal world, the spine, the strengthening of the soul, the raising of your internal light, and when you reach enlightenment your light (or the light of christ that rises in you) becomes a portal to the next world and you will be carried away just like Eijah.

It is a wonder to listen to Shi Yeng Hi explaining the Buddhist path to non-spiritual people. As a Buddhist practitioner, I am glad that the Dharma is spread in such a simple and accessible manner for others to liberate themselves from suffering. That is why mindfulness and meditation are crucial.
Just in case anyone is interested, apart from the Eightfold Path, the Buddhist traditions have what is called the Five Precepts, which are complementary to what Shi Yeng Hi has explained:
    1. Not killing any sentient being.
    2. Not committing sexual misconduct: this is not to be understood as guilt-tripping ourselves because we want to enjoy our sexuality, but rather, for lay Buddhists (monks are usually celibate, but this depends on the tradition they are ordained in), sexual misconduct could be cheating on one's partner, or having a relationship with someone who is already in a monogamous relationship, or coercing someone into having sex. Basically, to cause suffering to yourself and others in the frame of sex.
    3. Not consuming intoxicants (this can go from drugs to falling into compulsive or addictive behaviors).
    4. No false speech or lying.
    5. Not taking what is not yours or stealing.
These are not commandments in the sense of "Thou shalt not..." that are present in the Judeo-Christian traditions, but rather guidelines that you vow to follow to yourself and the Buddha (as a teacher, not a divine figure) because you understand they are the right thing to do for yourself and others.
May all be well and happy 🪷

The Buddha has devised a set of ways (法门) to help sentient beings gain spiritual liberation
解脱, including the Thirty-Seven Auxiliary Paths (三十七道品) and the “Eightfold paths八正道” is one of the Auxiliary Paths.
When a person truly wants to embark on the "Transcendental world of Dharma出世间法", and moves towards spiritual liberation, he has to establish the following righteous paths in life: Establishing the Right View正见, Right Thought 正思维, Right Speech 正语, Right Action正业, Right Livelihood正命, Right Effort 正精进, Right Mindfulness 正念, and Right Concentration
正定. The word "Right" means the facts.
Collectively, these eight righteous ways are known as the Eightfold Paths八正道, and it is the specific content of the Fourth Noble Truths四聖諦(苦集灭道). The path does not imply a sequential learning process but eight aspects of life, integrated into everyday life. Thus the environment is created to move closer to the Buddhist path.
    Right View正见:
Having the right view is considered having a wisdom eye智慧眼. You can then see the world and everything in it as it is (如实观), not as we believe it or want it to be.
Only with the correct view and perspectives can we have an accurate understanding of the truth, of which we can then weed out the wrong beliefs. Then, taking the right view as the foundation, we can practice diligently and unremittingly and not reverse the truth and practise blindly.
    Right Thought 正思维:
After learning the Dharma, we weed out all evil desires and arouse our rightful desires through deep thinking. Right Thought mainly has three aspects: abandoning attachments
去执著 or selfishness私心, displaying loving-kindness慈善仁爱, and not harming others
无害他人. These are the will and determination of a practitioner.
    Right Speech 正语:
Pure and clean language means no lying不说谎, swearing不谩骂, slandering不诽谤, bad words不恶语, and violent talks不暴语. Engaging in the right speech, a person can become gentle and pleasant and lives up to his words.
    Right Action正业:
In all aspects of walking行, living住, sitting坐, and lying down臥, we must follow the principles of Buddhism, and comply with the precepts - do not kill殺生, steal偷盜, commit adultery邪淫, lying妄語, bad talk兩舌, slurring惡口, slandering綺語, and avoiding the Three poisons貪, 瞋, 癡. Once we have the right actions, we can change our bad habits and behaviours and become righteous and benefit society.
    Right Livelihood正命:
It is a way of earning a living and a righteous way to engage in the right profession. Our profession must comply with the laws of society and the precepts of Buddhism. We should not commit crimes for personal gains, such as murder, theft, adultery, and etcetera. With righteous life, we can become moral and legitimate professionals.
    Right Effort 正精进:
We should always encourage ourselves to stop evil and cultivate good deeds in practice. Never let up nor stop so that righteous diligence can support the other seven righteous paths. We can become determined to pursue the liberation path with the right efforts.
    Right Mindfulness 正念:
Possessing "Right Mindfulness" means the mind is not distracted, and the awareness is not in disarray. We must always keep in mind the Four Noble Truths 四聖諦 and the Right Views正見. We can eliminate ignorance, eradicate worries, and become people who can resist material temptations with righteous minds. We must abandon the "I 我" concept and only consider the truth of the Universe and reality in life, with no clinging to delusions 妄想.
    Right Concentration 正定:
Having the right concentration, we can practice meditation correctly with our mind focused on the Four Noble Truths. Once we have acquired the right concentration, it can help us maintain the right mindfulness, which triggers the various merits mentioned in Buddha's teachings.
In Buddhism, the "Eightfold Paths" is like eight stairs spiralling upwards, and along the stairs, we can reach the highest state of Buddha's teachings. Through the practice of these paths, one can then lead to the direction of spiritual liberation.
    Amitabha阿弥陀佛 🙏

Do we need the 'new age spa' music? I think maybe just the words and his calm voice and delivery stand well by themselves. Good work bringing these truths to your audience though. I'm 57 now and started reading these teachings around the age of 17, so without dwelling on them too much, the ideas of right effort, actions, thoughts, understanding , etc, have been the core of my life. Understand what you are, and your place in nature. In this time of anthropogenic environmental destruction, the principle of right livelihood is more important than ever I think. Do less of everything people, relax, breathe.

In Tao practice we say "every thing is energy" and modern physics has proven that to be true. But energy takes on many forms. Thoughts and emotions are a form of energy and have a resonant frequency, ie vibration to put it another way. Karma is also a result of the actions and it is also a vibration which sits in our souls. When you follow the 8 Fold Path you improve your vibration and hence your Karma.

Personally, the right way to make ethical money, especially in the world of marketing and business, has gotten me thinking a lot. So, for example, a client is asking you to write an article for e.g. online betting platforms or a bank product, or cigarettes and alcohol. Is it ethical for me as a copywriter to write it? My answer to that was "no". So I made a decision to not write about those products and services because I am potentially harming other people through my nicely crafted words. I am fine with myself doing so. And poorer, of course. Even considered stupid by some. But, it is worth it. Life always provides for me in the end. I mean, following the path, you may even end up being scorned somehow. Even left out of jobs in today's world. But still, this is my choice. If something goes against my consciousness, I can't sleep at night. Thank you, Master.
