    I purchased a bottle of Baller for $68., if I remember correctly. But if you do an internet search, you will see that the prices for that whisky are all over the place. I have seen them for as much as $200. Happy travels and good luck on your marathon! You certainly have put in the time and effort! Both of you!!

    10-20 years ago Duty Free was often an exciting good deal. Nowadays it's one of the highest priced liquor options around.

    It does surprise me how expensive whiskey can be at duty free. it also surprises me how expensive chocolate and gifts are. They have a captive for those looking for gifts.

    My duty-free shopping experiences have been much the same as yours--the bottles are almost always overpriced. In Japan, the Macallan Rare Cask can be purchased for about $220 (vs. the $450 at duty-free). On the other hand, I'd probably buy the Forester 1920 for $50 at duty-free as it's $80 locally, but that's an exception. Thanks for the shopping tour!

    Hello Captain 3D, first time to watch one of your videos but came across your name a few times in chats (Roy, ScotchTestDummies etc). Really great overview of rather disappointing duty free. Good fun 👍
    Had the same experience at Chicago airport. The Blantons was at 32$there, should have picked it up 🤨. And with my 6 bottles of bourbon, the custom‘s guy was on his lunchbreak, the red exit was closed in Frankfurt 🤣.

    The blanton’s is a fantastic price & the Baller is only about $5-$10 more than I remember paying for it. Still much much cheaper than it goes for at inflated secondary market prices. Just be a bit cautious when drinking the Baller neat. It was made to be a highball whisky (hence the name Baller).
    Have a great trip & a great run!

    • @WhiskyMystery
      @WhiskyMystery  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Zero. I just walked in with six bottles a few hours ago. Declared them and paid nothing. Same when we brought 27 bottles back. The duty is only a few $ per Litre at worst.

  • @bourbonryescotch1
    @bourbonryescotch1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    $62 for a liter of Blanton’s would have been a steal. The cheapest Blanton’s I’ve ever encountered was the Special Reserve for €25 in Germany. Somehow the Travel Retail prices are almost always more expensive :-(.
    Have fun in the UK!
    P.S. if you’re going to Milroy’s in SOHO London, you might as well check out The Vintage House. It’s a 3 minute walk.

    So you can check in 5 liters of alcohol without a fee? and anything over you’re charged? Are you based in the USA

    • @WhiskyMystery
      @WhiskyMystery  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Only 1 liter per person is duty free coming into the US. 5 liter per bag is a flight limitation for safety reasons. You can bring as much as you want back really. You just declare it and see if they want to charge you duty on the extra. Comin into CA, USA it is only a few $ per litre so they usually do not bother to collect.
